Is John Cena Wrestling's FINAL Megastar?

Ойын-сауық

In 2002 John Cena came onto the scene in WWE. He won over fans with his Dr. of Thuganomics character. He then made a transition to a do no wrong babyface when the company transitioned to PG. Through it all he became a megastar the likes of which WWE may never see again. Cena simply became a pop culture icon, whether that be movies, wrestling or even memes. The name John Cena became universally recognized. As wrestling is declining more and more year by year, its possible we may never see someone like John Cena again.. in this video I take a look at who could possibly be WWE's final megastar.

The fact that almost everyone knows cena whether they like wrestling or not just shows how huge he is, whenever cena returns the match he is in has a big fight feel, no matter who he faces, whether it’s the fiend, or Roman or drew or even daniel bryan it’s always intriguing, we’ll hv to see if Roman becomes a megastar he has been gr8 and can definitely draw eyes on the company but yeah I agree, he has no opponents as big as him, Roman needs cena, rock and wrestlers like those to make him a megastar

Which is impossible. I don’t care who you are, if you’re in sports or entertainment, you need stars. Stars are what draw. The NFL is nice, but without Patrick Maholmes or Tom Brady, they’d be in trouble. I love the NBA, but without LeBron, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, CP3 or Giannis, they wouldn’t be able to draw ratings or sell tickets. TV and web shows are like that-you need a name or a hot star that draws viewers. Wrestling is no different. That’s why you need someone like Austin, Rock, Ric Flair, Undertaker, or even John Cena-names draw in that business. Not brands. This isn’t clothing or men’s or women’s wear, it’s entertainment. If you don’t have stars, you won’t draw jack. WWE by itself will never draw like they would with big stars on the marquee. And that’s why they’re struggling now. The only ones on the main roster who have gotten any kind of outside exposure lately are Roman, Ronda Rousey (if she ever comes back) and Sasha Banks, and maybe Becky Lynch. But outside of that, mainstream viewers have no idea who these other people are. No stars, no viewers.

I think there’s a crucial element here that not talked about enough. Mic work. John Cena, The Rock, Austin all had great work on the mic that captivated the audience. When I was a kid, John Cena would literally inspire me and impress me with his weekly long tangents and verbal beat downs that only He could deliver. He the best on the mic since the rock and you just don’t see that passion and skill with the roster today. There are other ways you can become popular of course but look at CM Punk he was very close to that level because he had the mic skills and the wrestling ability. Everyone in the WWE today feels so bland IMO.

Imagine how big a star cena wouldve been if he had had proper feuds with stone cold, Goldberg, Rock, Sting or Hogan in the mid-2000s. He was left to start from scratch. If all the build that was given to Lesnar had been given to him, all of Orton, Punk, Edge and the rest would've been so much bigger because of him. No disrespect to the veterans that did put him over, but at that point, they were B+ players. And he still did a hell of a job!

After him it went to the indies like Omega, Bullet Club . I think we will be seeing an invasion of British Megastars now, we've already see Becky Lynch for the womens, now it will be Osprey. But as far as Americans, the next US megastar is most likely HANGMAN PAGE , hes only 29 but is on the path to have a Austin esque breakout year in 2022. I first found out about John Cena in Smackdown vs Raw 2009, by late 2008 (I already knew about wrestling before getting this game because I had played other games and watched a match here and there). His high rating, realistic clothes, easy to remember name, great theme song and buff physique made him look really badass. Instant favorite. After that I would always buy WWE games, watch the NXT (only show available at that time), would start watching PPVs on the internet and learning about the past of the product. Issue is that it got repetitive and videos about the late 90s and early 2000s era made me feel like I was getting scammed for watching such a boring, safe, repetitive and shallow show, and John Cena was also a main reason for that. He started to represent everything I didn't like about wrestling. He was too OP, the storylines were boring and matches were predictable. Once I learned how wrestlers performed the moves, I got more critical of the product and could no longer waste my time watching wrestlers who didn't bother making the moves look real and somewhat violent (WWE is also guilty here). Anyway, yeah, John Cena is arguably the last megastar. He was easy to like and somewhat famous even among non-wrestling fans, then mid 2010s memes and movie appearances made him famous worldwide. You knew John Cena even if you didn't know WWE. Now he's even playing a memorable character in a great TV show called Peacemaker and had some blockbusters appearances too. Vince is really trying to make Roman Reigns have that appeal but it's not working. WWE just doesn't have the same power/influence anymore, maybe even if The Rock and Stone Cold were to debut today, WWE still wouldn't be able to create a megastar. I think it's just over for them... wrestling won't ever get as mainstream as it once was.

Cena had edge, orton, punk, lesnar, hbk etc. Roman is great, but unfortunately he has nobody on his level to play off of. You need arch enemies to create conflict, and conflict makes money. Unpopular opinion, I don’t think wrestling can ever have another megastar. guys like Hulk Hogan, Rick Flair, Stone Cold, the Rock and Cena are already for the most part once in a generation; it takes a special mix of a bunch of different factors for somebody to breakout in that way. But the most important thing, even moreso than characterwork and persona-is Market. The fact of the matter is today’s world just won’t allow somebody to break out I. That way. There’s too much competition in other fields for your eyes. Even as far as combat sports the UFC has become far more individualistic and Star driven. Not to mention stream shows and videogames which have essentially killed cable as a whole. I think even if the Rock and Stone Cold were in their prime, wrestling wouldn’t be as big as it once was. It’s sad, but I think it’s the truth. Hopefully they’ll prove me wrong, I can’t imagine a world where WWE doesn’t exist. Even if I don’t watch it anymore

Wwe built cena organically that's why he was so popular in his 6th year but for roman, he was being booed partly because of cena. Cena left wwe but cena v2 was still there. Roman was green but wwe was too hasty to put roman in cena's shoes. Roman finally got his character after 6 years and let's not forget that it's still thunderdome era. The Head of the Table is yet to have any big fued in front of the crowd. Imo Roman has potential to be a bigger star in Hollywood than cena. Logically speaking Roman will be the last megastar because wrestling is dying and the next generation won't have legends like hhh, taker, cena, lesnar, rock to compete with them in the ring.

Yes, John Cena is the wrestling’s last big megastar. He got me, and a lot of other people into wrestling. My mom, who isn’t even a wrestling fan (and I doubt she ever was), knew who he was back in the early 00’s. Roman has the potential to be just that, he just needs to tweak his gimmick a little bit, and expand a lot more outside of wrestling (which I respect if he doesn’t).

John Cena may possibly be WWE’s last mega star to be honest. There is no one today who’s fresh and new that could align with John Cena’s presence and popularity. There will never be another poster boy for WWE, that can compare to John Cena. The pro-wrestling audience and our world has changed drastically, to the point where it’s kinda hard getting someone over to a high level due to critics. The way John Cena got over will never be duplicated, especially since he got over in a different era, the Ruthless Aggression Era. Like what most people are saying here, Roman Reigns is close but not that close to Cena’s caliber.

You were spot on with feuds and the talents. Also you have to acknowledge the fact that WWE never actually cared about what fans want and the creative direction sucked from 2016. people were more exposed to the "competition" due to the social media also AEW is also hitting it out of the park with the talents that were never pushed by WWE. Sure AEW has some drawbacks but you have to pull the trigger when a talent got over with audience. Which WWE miserably failed to do so but AEW pulls the trigger when needed.

But if you’re gonna make that argument then you’d have to add Brock Lesnar too since he’s a top guy as well. Now my comment connects to *SuperkickStudios* previous video on how under-appreciated Brock Lesnar is. WWE will never have a guy like Brock Lesnar again, just like how they’ll never have a guy as popular as John Cena. If they do, it’ll take a long time to come into play.

Especially that rumble where he won and All the Indy nerds got mad that DB didn’t win and got eliminated early. Stop the nonsense hell Roman lost more then he won during that time especially when it came to that title picture. Like (OTRS CENTRAL) said on their channel if anything during that time seth was shoved more then Roman yea we all viewed Roman as the bigger star because of presentation. However Seth was the one who won everything during that time from the MITB to 8 1/2 month title reign. Up until his injury but during that time Roman was most beating midcarders and the occasional main eventers. Just to stay in that picture and when he finally got back into the picture with the whole Sheamus situation. Fans were being hypocrites then because they started cheering Roman over Sheamus. But that was short lived until Triple H got in the Picture. Which in theory it sounded like a good idea but with today’s fan it wouldn’t work. Fan’s didn’t stop their BS until it came out that he had leukemia. And even some fans were still jackass’s to him. It’s just fuckin weird. Not to mention that you have all of the Wrestling social media influencers with large KZread channels and other platforms constantly burying the guy to because he didn’t fit a Certain Indy narrative. But I have to be one of the very few and when I say very few I mean small percentage of us Fair non-bias fan’s call out the hypocrisy like this especially sitting back and watching the thing unfold. It’s pretty much been like that from the get go but i
