The more I learn about these things the more provoked I get. These are stories that need to be told. Not to the world, and not for their validation. But to our children.

Agreed! I was just thinking this. Where I went to school, African History started at the slave trade to the US and Asian History was coloring a map of China. Everything was centered around the US and certain parts of Europe. It is basically teaching the world centers around the European traditions and the rest of the world had no value and always weak and abused. The few blacks at our school fought to change this; but were told Africans were nothing but savages and there was nothing to talk about. I feel like the lack of knowledge of so-called minorities and not being seen as people stems from poor education and living in bubbles. Right now our perspectives are ruled by poorly reported current events. Until our perspective and how we educate our youth changes, things will remain ugly. Sorry for the rant.

Don't be so quick to dismiss our Brazilian brothers and sisters as you may know Brazil saw a lot of enslaved Africans because of the Portuguese, so this young lady might be a descendant of one of our captured ancestors.

That is so rude. You have no ownership of African history it is the history of all human beings. Whether this Brazilian woman is a black Brazilian or not, she has a right learn about the history of Africa. It is All human beings have their origins in Africa. You are acting like whites who try to exclude us from humanity, when in fact Africans are at the center of the human story on earth. I'm ashamed of your reaction to our fellow human sister. Shooting without provocation is what racist whites have done to us for centuries and it is clearly an uncivilized manner of being. Why mimic that behavior, treating this lovely human being with such contempt? Shame on you Jackie. Mari I apologize for this woman's ignorance, all black Americans are not as uncouth as Jackie. You are my sister Mari as are all people of good will.

You tell these beautiful stories so beautifully! You honestly have a gift. I feel like one of the things we lost being taken away was this.... the tales and legends that make up the foundation of a culture and identity. As a kid growing up my mom played the original Roots soundtrack to death, and there was that song where the trees and rivers and land were crying for its lost children and we the lost children cried for our mother.... It's so lovely to hear our mothers voice again telling us the stories, fitting the little pieces of self back together....

This would make an excellent Disney movie - or non-Disney. We should totally be the ones to make it. I think you'd like my stories on wattpad - also focused on pre-colonial Africa. The first is Eloko, the second Ogbanje. Now working on Ninki Nanka. All authentic folklore creatures from the continent. Once the anthology is complete, I'm hoping to create a next series of stories on queens, kings and other nobilities/elected officials (yep - some societies were democratic)

Hey, can you spell out the names of the people, languages and countries in your videos the same way you put up images of the people, artwork and kingdoms you talk about? Or if not in the video, type or copy them in the description below the videos. It will give us an idea of how to spell and pronounce the words and easier for us who would like to research these African people and kingdoms. Thanks!!

I know it very well as part of my family is linked to that story. I will be very happy to share what i know about it with you. Have you heard of FESPACO before? Its an African movie festival held in Burkina Faso. Interestingly enough, the award that is given to the best movie/director is called the Golden Yennenga. Its a statue of princess Yennenga riding her stallion, Ouedraogo. Furthermore, Ouedraogo is one of the most common name among Mossi people and in Burkina Faso. Keep up the good work!!!
