    I am proud african-Somali. whether or not we all came from East-Africa(Somalia,Ethiopia)or perhaps North-Africa(Sudan,Egypt)or further West-Africa(mali,Nigeria)But Africa was definitely the place of our Origin. We all one African Kingdom and we move place to place we all have Connection East to west and North to South. Our Family are of African HERITAGE.. .. Arabs and Europeans are not Native to Africa north or East. They have nothing to do with African civilization or African Heritage,or African History or African people and the land.

    Absolutely! The thing that puts me off is the assumption that West and Central Africans had no history and culture worthy of consideration UNLESS you can some how make a connection to Egypt, no matter how fragile it may be. The fact of the matter is that West Africans had a driving organized social structure in the Niger River region at the exact same time that Egypt was developing. Some of the earliest examples of pottery technology in the World comes from West Africa over 10,000 years ago. Long long before Timbuktu, the Niger region was home to well organized urban societies that had cities twice the size of London. Also, according to Yoruba tradition, life began at Ile Ife. It isn't necessary to argue over whether or not this is historical fact, but what it does do is reflect the Yoruba World view that their land was sacred and the center of THEIR universe, not Egypt. I follow the Yoruba traditional path of Ifa and from what I know of Egyptian spirituality, there are similarities, but the two systems are radically different. It's alright to honor Egypt rightfully as an African civilization, but lets not ignore our own ancestors, histories and cultures. If we paid as much attention to the rest of Africa as we do Egypt, no telling what we would find. Every time archeologists decide to pay that part of Africa some attention, they end up finding things that make them rewrite their history books about what was happening there.

    Okay people, please educate yourselves. Some of these comments are beyond ridiculous and purely ignorant. You wanna make general accusations that Ethiopians, Eritreans, Somalians, etc think they are better than other Africans? Fine. Do what you do. But at least understand that East Africa is a very large and vast part of the continent. It is not (I repeat, IS NOT) limited to the Horn of Africa and Egypt. Please educate yourselves. Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and even Mozambique are part of East Africa as well. As far as I'm concerned, the citizens of these countries look just like you and me. So don't say, "East Africans think they are white" because that is completely ridiculous, if not ignorant. You can generalize all you want but at least be knowledgeable of the geographic location of which you speak. Thank You.

    Very interesting. Another thing that people don't realize is that the Sahara has not always been a desert and African people, all them BLACK, lived there. Rock art in the Sahara shows thousands of drawing of the lives of these black people. There is now great evidence that, when the region began to turn desert, these people developed great sky navigation skills to find water and skills to move large stones. The people moved to different parts of African, away for the increasingly drying region. By the time they reached the southern Nile they had the rudimentary skills to produce the great civilizations of Egypt. This idea that northern African is white and sub Saharan Africa is black is ridiculous. The caucasian element in northern Africa, compared to Africa's long history, is relatively new. And still today, the black element in northern Africal is profoundly evidenty.

    Celia Jay nobody knows how far Nubia stretched south in Africa. But it is widely agreed that it ended around north Uganda. in that area of east Africa you find the Nilo-Saharan African group which includes tribes such as the dinka, people of darfur and masai. these people share the same traits that were used to describe ancient nubians. tall, dark, smooth skin. Therefore, people of nilo-saharan desent are more than likely the decendents of ancient nubians. aspecially those in south sudan. the north sudanese are deffinately nubian also but just mixed with arab blood.

    I heard this story when I was a teen. My African brother inlaw told me about ancient migration patterns throughout Africa. West Africa was inhabited mainly by Bantu speaking peoples whom were originally from Central Africa. When the "Nilotes" moved into West Africa, the Bantus were forced back into Central and Southern Africa. And some also intermarried with the new arriving Nilotic peoples from the east. Bantu people were forced up into eastern Africa during the Zulu wars. That's why you now have people like Kikuyu and Kiemba in Kenya. The Masai are Nilotes. There are also many Bantu in Uganda....some are in Ethiopia and Somalia as well.

  • @rubanikq2

    @rubanikq2

    10 жыл бұрын

    Sinseer, a lot of what you're saying is true and very informative. However,the Nilotic groups in Kenya fall under: River-Lake Nilots(Luos), Highland Nilots(Kalenjins) and Plain Nilots(Maasais), Bantus comprise of the other major group and is spread out throughout the country (btw it's Kambas NOT Kiembas), then we have the Cushitic groups (Rendiles, Boranas etc). So, the groups in Ethiopia and Somalia are actually Cushites and not Bantus. But, if you move south, in countries like Zambia, Malawi and even Republic of SA, there are Bantu groups, who speak languages similar to some bantu languages in Kenya, and one can understand a bit of what they say, even if you don't speak the actual language, but it sounds so much like what we speak.

  • @bokay3900

    @bokay3900

    10 жыл бұрын

    What did I say that was untrue? And the group I mentioned is actually Embu sometimes called Kiembu. I knew a girl who was half Kikuyu and Kiembu. I never mentioned anything about Kamba and that is not the group to which I am referring. And yes there are bantus in Somalia. Kenya is home to both Bantus and Nilotes; I never disputed that. The largest language group in Africa is Bantu. That comprises all countries from Cameroon to Kenya and Uganda down to the southern most tip of Africa.

So in our language we say From which language are you. And also ethnicity is not tribe. In my country we have an ethnic group called the Krous. The Krous are divided into different ethnicities like the dida, beté, gouro, we, godie...... And the dida are divided into tribes. So if I was dida I would not call it tribe.

    There's not much but there's a decent amount of ancient stuff in South Sudan. To start around 3000 BC a cattle raising society was established in that region.Another example would be the Kush empire which had extended most likely to the sudd swamp in south Sudan. And a Roman legion had explored as deep into south Sudan as the Sudd in an expedition. In the Periplus of the Erythrean Sea the district of Cyeneum was most likely south Sudan/Uganda where they got alot of Ivory from. Plus according to the greeks Kushite warriors painted themselves in white white which I think some Dinka do but I'm not sure. So that's what I know for the most part about ancient south Sudan.

    I know this is a kind of old video, but I just had some comments and things I was curious about. First of all, you're saying that various West African peoples came from East Africa because the human species originally came from the region, right? This is true, but hypothetically could date just as far back as the Eurasian and American populations. Contrarily, lots of West African peoples are believed to come from the Sahara region, moving southwards as a result of desertification of the region. In fact, it's sometimes believed that the origin of 2 of the 4 major language families in Africa, Niger-Congo (including the Bantu languages, Yoruba, Igbo, Fula, Wolof, Mandé, Akan, Balanta etc.) and Nilo-Saharan (including Songhai, Kanuri, Dinka, Nuer, Luo, Nubian, Maasai and others) are distantly related and had an extremely ancient origin in the Sahara region - languages of both families share tonality and complex noun class systems. This would mean that while Niger-Congo speakers moved south from the desert, Nilo-Saharan speakers would have moved east, later spreading out to both East and West Africa. I think the West African traditions about coming from Egypt/Nubia could actually be about the Sahara region, especially considering that the Balanta came to West Africa fleeing from a drought. Also, West and East Africa have a much more recent connection - the Bantu languages. The Bantu expansion began in Cameroon in BC and lasted until at least AD 500. Of course, this does not concern all of East Africa; Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan and Egypt speaking Afroasiatic languages (the language family that includes Semitic languages (Arabic, Hebrew, Amharic), Berber (Tamazight), Cushitic (Somali, Oromo, Beja) and the ancient Egyptian language and its modern form Coptic) and parts of Kenya and Uganda and I believe all of South Sudan speaking Nilo-Saharan languages. However, all of the Bantu-speaking territories of Africa are descended, more or less, from ancestral West African populations, since before the expansion, the Bantu family was just another branch of the Niger-Congo family, like Yoruba (and associated languages such as Igala and Idoma), Igbo, Nupe, Tiv, Gbe (Ewe, Fon, and Aja) Akan (Twi, Baoule, Anyin, Sehwi), Kru, Mandé (Mandinka, Bambara, Soninke, Vai, Mɛnde, and Kpɛllɛ), or Senegambian (Wolof, Fulani/Fula/Fufulɓe, and Serer). And the similarity is also apparent in religion - the traditional West African and Bantu religions, while varying from ethnic group to ethnic group, share certain basic principles, such as belief in one distant, supreme creator god, numerous less powerful gods or spirits subservient to the creator god, and ancestor worship. Sorry for the long post, but I'm very interested in topics like this, especially linguistics (which is why my post focused on language families). One more thing, I'm very interested in these Egyptian cognates in Yoruba and Wolof. Do you have a source or example for them? I wonder how close they are to their Egyptian equivalents, but it's important to realize that these languages had a lot of influence from Arabic, an Afroasiatic language related to, albeit distantly, to the ancient Egyptian language. Very interesting topic, and I don't mean to imply that you are wrong and definitely not that I am right. I just wanted to put in an alternate theory I had.

    HomeTeam History: Brother Hometeam, I have been watching your channel for years now and as an amateur historian I have to say you have the most historically accurate channel. We are often frustrated when misinformed people of African descend begin making grand unfounded assumptions that make us all look stupid to a non-African world that is just itching to insult us. So thank you for your efforts. As a south Sudanese, Nilotic African let me just affirm to you and these semi literate North and South Sudanese morons that Kushites and most ancient Nubians groups ( except the medjay Nubians obviously) referenced throughout antiquity were Nilotic and nilosaharan. Their descendants are the AFRICAN peoples of the modern Sudan and South Sudan. The Afro-Arabs do have ancient Nubian ancestry due to millennia of admixture but by no means are representative of the ancient kushites. Don’t let them distract you from the important work that you do. It’s irrefutable at this point that northern Nigerians nilosaharan speakers (such as the Kanuri) have more genetic affinity with Nile valley peoples than your average North Sudanese “Arab”. North Sudan is a country with a massive crisis of identity, trying desperately to cling on to the little bit of Arab blood they have at the expense of their predominantly African heritage. Somalis, Eritreans and Ethiopians apparently suffer from this same syndrome which is really sad as it needlessly divides the African peoples as a whole. If you were to only watch and read postings on online fora, you would think countries like Eritrea 🇪🇷 and Somalia 🇸🇴 were the largest countries on the continent with populations in the 100 millions+ range because they seem to occupy every online forum discussing issues of African history and politics. Like north Sudanese this is merely a manifestation of that crisis of identity where they impulsively have to shoot every well meaning effort such as yours down because facts of history wound their fragile egos. Smh. Please keep doing the important work that you do and ignore these fools. The overwhelming majority of Africans appreciate you even if we do not have the same compulsion as these horn of African internet warriors to comment.

    Nubia is recent name (probably foreign) for diverse African peoples that stayed behind in this area when others fled. Had to convert to Islam (mainly forcefully). The rest of African people flew to west, east Africa. A lot of communities trace their origin to around this place. So, yes original nubia/Kush people flew.

    HomeTeam History - I have a correction for your video: The Mende people do not come from Sudan in East Africa. The Mende come from the Western Sudan, which is the French name for the area in which Mali is now located, in West Africa. The Mende are Mande, which is Mandenka, and are decedents of the Mali Empire, more specifically, from the Kaabu province of the ancient Mali empire. If you would like to know more about this, please focus your research on the Nyancho people of Kaabu in Mali. It would be great if you would make a video about this, my mother is Nyancho.

    Interesting video. It's nice to see realistic references and links between the 2 regions/peoples that go away from unscientific claims and myths (i.e. hamitic theory) . Oral history is very informative, but it can also be a double-edge sword. I noticed you use the term "tribe" versus "ethnic group"...I know it can be argued they mean the same thing, but the Fulani, for example, are so great in number - I would think that they would be an ethnic group, no? Especially when a large group like that can go on to have sub-tribes, clans, etc. There's also sometimes a negative connotation with the word tribe.. at least to me (no thanks to colonial history).

    Quick question... Do you ever people watch and try to figure out what tribes they may have been in if the slave trade never happened? Or imagine what roles they would've played in their tribes based on their physical build? Like LeBron James.. he's so tall, strong and fast. Maybe he would've hunted for food or built homes & buildings etc. Or for example, Kevin Hart. He must have pygmy blood running all through him lol. Or black women with voluptuous glutes. My theory is that we are similar to camels. Maybe we used to store water in our humps because of droughts and what not. I could be wrong :)

    HomeTeam History I think the physical stature may have been more of a warrior culture. People looked toward a WISE leader who in turn recognized the importance of physical stature in his/her army. It probably mattered more in terms of master sergeants who led battles vs. thinking and plotting generals.That is of course my own theory. Look at Napoleon, a perfect example that people look for knowledge and INNER strength in a leader/s.

    The Egyptians were one of the children of older East African cultures, they were not the parents. The reason why we find similarities between Egypt and certain West Africans is because they share the same parent who originated in East Africa. Yoruba traditions claim that the World began at Ile Ife in Nigeria, not Egypt. The other thing to take into consideration is that Yoruba is a tonal language, meaning that the tone you pronounce a word with will drastically alter its meaning. Even the way I wrote Ile Ife, (House of Ife) is incorrect because it's lacking the tonal markers, so Ile as I wrote it can have different meanings, or no meaning at all because of the lack of tonal markers in the standard English alphabet. The Egyptian language on the other hand, is not tonal. The Egyptian language still suvives in the Coptic Christian Church in Egypt today. I think there is much closer connections between certain languages such as Wolof and Coptic than there is between Coptic and Yoruba.

    We need more and more new generation like you to tell the story of our people to our African brother and Sister in diaspora, because our people have been miss-educated by Eurocentric system of Education imposed on us in order to control our mind, and he that control your mind control your life. I am very impressed with the knowledge you have about our beloved continent and its people. Been born in northern Nigeria and grew up there gave me opportunity to diverse people of my great continent. But i am Yoruba, and many African i met always think i am from East Africa, because of my look. As widely travel African, i am proud of African root, it history and amazing contribution of our people and the Continent of Africa to humanity. Many things you said is absolute correct. According to Yoruba oral history we belong to Twa group the consist of Zulu, Kikuyu and the Anago or Yoruba we migrate from ancient Egypt to where we are today, and mind you not many Yoruba know this, because many continental African are also miseducated. We only taught the history of our oppressor and the history of slave trade. And our history did not started with slave trade, that, history is history written by European to justified their superiority, and domination they have over us in the last five hundred years, whereas African have the longest domination in history of humanity, because the African build the first and the most fascinating civilization in history. The Kush, Ancient Egypt, Carthage, Numidia just to mention few, and there is always slogan of mixed in European fabricated History like Ethiopian mixed or Nubian mixed or Fulani mixed with Arab. How can African mixed with Arab that just Arrived in the continent just yesterday. for example Fulani ethnic group are diverse, You have Wadabe, and you have other dark Fulani you find Futa toro in Senegal, Futa Jallon in Guinea, but they are all Fulani. You have Wolof of Senegal or Hausa of Nigeria that have slender figure of Fulani. Is so ironical that European want rewrite the history of ancient Kemet, when we still have word like Ka, Ba, Ta, Hapi, Ra, for example Ethiopian still called Nile original name Hapi, Somali called Sun, Ra Fulani still used many last name like Ka, and the geographical location also justified that the ancient Kemet is absolutely indigenous to our great continent. I was in museum of mankind in London i saw statue of Khafre, I saw many faces in Khafre face, I saw Nubian, Fulani, Tigrey, Oromo, Masai, Somali, Soha, Beja, Guarage, Afra,Toubu, Bajun, Hausa, Yoruba, Watusi, Sidamo, Tuareg, just to mention few i saw all this ethic groups in his face. We thank you brother, let do something together brother, I speak five different languages and i have in my mind. African are only people that can tell authentic story of our people not European is like we telling the story of European.

    Your videos are very good: I also like your casual, accessible approach - it makes African history a joy to listen to. I think you ought to educate people of the history of "Race" & "Racism" too: these are relevantly recent, (last 500 years?) European constructs, which were mainly meant to justify colonialism & slavery. There is no myopic, essentialist "Black" & "White": merely diverse collectives of humans with a complex history of migration, settlement and trade, and a number of phenotypic traits as a consequence. Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western & Central Europeans are noted for their diversity. Why isn't Africa - the 2nd largest continent - provided the same recognition, which spreads beyond this nonsensical idea of "sub-Saharan Africa"? Also, a video covering the Bantu expansion from west-central Africa to all the regions now dominated by Bantu-language speaking groups would also be swell! Great videos man!

    Great lecture Bro. Archeological evidence also proves that what we call west Africa today was the last parts of Africa to be inhabited. The migration was westward from the origins of the Nile, and subsequent settlements along the lower Nile plains Lake Chad, the now extinct water bodies in parts of the Sahara, the Inland Niger delta and along the Niger, Senegal, Gambia, Mano, Volta and a host of other water bodies. Great job. Cape Verde was one of the last to be inhabited

    What about the Bantu Migrations; you had the Proto-Bantus who originated in the Cameroon Mountains in West Africa around 2000 B.C. and around 1500 B.C began to migrate and over time they migrated into Central, Southern and Eastern Africa and became many ethnic groups such as the Zulus, Kikuyu, Kisii, Luhya, Shona, Xhosa, Kongo, Kota, Luba, Bakuba, Swahili, Bubi, Makua, etc.The Bantu languages belong to the Niger-Congo Language family as do the Mende,Yoruba, Wolof and Fulani but they belong to a different branch of the Niger-Congo Language family; Wolof and Fulani belongs to the Senagambian Branch of the Atlantic-Congo subdivision; Balanta also belongs to the Alantic-Congo subdivision but it belongs to the Bak-Bijago branch; and Mende Belongs to the Mande Branch of, Yoruba belongs to the Atlantic-Congo subdivision and the Volta-Niger branch. Hausa Is a Afro-Asiatic Language of the Chadic Branch; and the Afro-Asiatic languages family is believed to have originated along the Horn of Africa. You have the Songai People who speak a Nilo-Saharan language of the Songhai branch the Nubians also belongs to this language family but the belong to the Eastern Sudanic Branch.

    The most detailed history I have heard abut the eastern migration is that of my Greater tribe. I am from a tribe called Idoma in Nigeria, this tribe is part of a greater tribe popularly know as the Kwararafa Tribe ( The story goes that we left Yemen thousands of years ago and settled amounts the Egyptians, some few generations later we left and went further westward, we then settled in northern Nigeria for 209 years after that our elders decided that we should go back to the Land of our Ancestors in Yemen. We then took another Journey back to yemen. We couldn't stay and we then took the final Journey back to Nigeria, were we settled and were known as the Kwararafa, Kona or Apa/Api Nation. Our history declined after the families that Made up the western part of the Nation, lead my the Igala family, rebelled and broke away from the eastern part.(The Igala will then go on to introduces the Yoruba to Ifa spiritual Science from which both groups got their language, in-fact 75% of the words used in Yoruba are found in Igala and the Igala language is used as the magical language of several secrete societies across the western Kwararafa families). The western families have evolved into many tribes now Known as Igala, Ebira, Nupe, Idoma, Eggon, Mada, Eloyi etc. The ruling family at the time of the rebellion also grew to become a tribe on its own called the Jukun nation. The now about 198 tribes in central Nigeria called Middle belt identify themselves as fragments of the Greater Kwararafa Tribe and maintain one form or another of the story. Research on Kwararafa.

    Regarding language, a comparison of ancient Egyptian to Somali vocabulary shows remarkable similarities: Ancient Egyptian, “Hes” = song, sing with musical instrument/ in Somali, “Hes” = song, sing with musical instrument. “AAR” means “lion” in both languages. Ancient Egyptian, “Ra” = the Sun God/ in Somali “Qor Rah” means the neck of Rah. Ancient Egyptian, Haa - Hey = glad, to be glad/ in Somali, Haa - Hey = glad. Ancient Egyptian, “Hun”, Hunnu” = young man, young girl/ in Somali “Hun”, “Hunno” = young man, young girl. Ancient Egyptian/ in Somali Awoow = grandfather, old man.
