I am Angolan and proudly Mbundu(mother) and Bakongo(Father) and married to a very intelligent, beautiful strong Bakongo women with Ethiopian mixture (from her father side), I will keep pointing more people in my region to you channel as it is simply amazing and inspiring, not to mention a great source of knowledge and knowledge is the true freedom.

Interesting history concerning the African slave trade. I was aware of it, but didn’t realize there were so many African tribes which were taken as captives/slaves. Thank you for this video, this is history that needs to be remembered.

It’s because Africa (West Africa especially) was actually separated by tribes. The Europeans grouped a lot of them together and called them Nigeria, Ghana etc.

@@TAPSIA.I did take the African ancestry test and it traced my paternal lineage to the Nubian people of Sudan and my maternal lineage was traced to the Dinka people of Southern Sudan

I'm from the Congo "bakongo" few years ago my grandfather told us of his uncle and his uncles friend who traveled to do business in the neighboring town and never came back. They asked everyone in that neighboring town but they all said that they left few days ago, slave trade was very common during those times so the whole family feared that they've been taken. They never stopped searching for them and up until now my grandfather who's in his early 90s still asks us his grandkids to continue spreading this message hoping that one day he'll hear some good news.

Before you grand daddy transitions, you need to talk to him as much as possible and record his words. Once he is gone, the knowledge is gone. Then you have to pass it on to your generations. I've been telling people this for years. Its simple logic. Abyssinians travelled across the continent, tribes were in disagreement etc so not all slaves that were captured originate from West Africa, it's just simple logic. I love when other people mention this. There's alot more that went on.

I can related to your story. I am from the Kongo, Luba-Katanga(we all come from Kongo Kingdom). My mom told me a story that her grandfather had a brother that went on business in a neighboring village and never returned. He said he knew he was sold as slave, till the day he transitioned he was grieving his brother. My great grandfather and mother used to record our history, think those audio tapes are with one of my uncles.

That's exactly what I think. EVERY Black child descended from Africans caught up in the Transatlantic slave trade should be taught how strong and exceptional their bodies and minds are, as well as how deep their survival drive is. We're still here. We are the direct descendants of those strong enough and willed enough to live through that horrible journey. Millions died. We didn't.

I've learned about the Asian, the American and the Europe but now I want to learn more about the country, people, cultures. I think Africa is beautiful & rich resources continent but lots of the people there don't have the opportunities to better themselves. I used to heard lots of rumor about black people but the more I get to Know them the more positive I think of them. They're beautiful & nice people. Even though I am a Kru from today's Ivory Coast, I really admire both the Yoruba and Igbo people of today's Nigeria. They are both strong West African tribes with a very rich and highly spiritual culture. African cultures and tribes are strong and beautiful.

I can attest to this I'm yoruba from Nigeria and i can boldly tell you that the Yoruba Ethnic group is one of the strongest and influential ethnic group in Nigeria.. The Igbo ethic group are beautiful people as well

Although I had never been to Africa I had always regarded it as the mother land because there is where my roots are even though I was born in Cuba I regard myself as a Afro Cuban Latin American but as you can see African firsts I take pride in my African heritage and I will definitely preserved until my last breath is exhaled

@Y.H.A A yes, and it's doubly a universal law when certain people groups oppress so many other people groups. For example, the U.S. has a history of oppressing Native Americans, Asians, Blacks, and it dropped the bomb on Japan (Hiroshima), stole California from the Mexicans (paid a cheap price for it); don't think these people groups will not turn on the caucasoids when the time is right.

Black people are Kings and Queens... the most interesting and best looking race in the world. Love your black skin.... I love mine.

As a white man, I am fascinated to learn history of African people without only hearing about colonialism. There is so much diversity and richness to uncover, from before and after European people terrorised them. We are never taught even the names of the biggest ethnic groups in Africa, and I had to teach myself where the countries all are. Thank you for giving such detailed history to us for free! It is what makes the internet a miracle, and I am very grateful!

As a black man, it's said that the true history of the slave trade is NEVER taught. You know...the part where black Africans, sold millions of other black Africans to the European slave traders. The Trans Atlantic Slave Trade would not have been possible without that aspect of it. We need to teach REAL history to people. And that goes for EVERYBODY. We need to teach what really happened throughout history, and stop trying to distort it, change it, or omit it, in order to not offend people, or tell people what they want to hear.

The natives served as servants and status could change by marrying non servants, buying, appeal through court or free children etc. it was never by choice and usually by survival. The middlemen were also subjected to deceit. No one was without capture and middlemen from history several rebellious attempts against the Europeans. You may want to dig in deeper and look up historians like Walter Rodney and read sins of fathers James pope Hennessy. You need additional resources to stand on what you said. To help you out direct quote from Walter Rodney "“A racist streak is never far from the surface in bourgeois presentations on the problems of development, because non-European people are equated with backwardness and stagnation, while progress in uniquely European. It would be simple to ignore such a misconception if it were merely held by the bigoted oppressors, but the racist historical experience has implanted the same negative self-evaluation in the minds of many Africans, and especially in the minds of the imitative African petty bourgeoisie.” I will forever quote this historian as well as author. He was assassinated...should assassins you ask you know. There were authors as well forced to change the narrative and Blame slave trade on African chiefs such as James pope Hennessy-"sins of our fathers. Yes a known fact historians were told to focus on the native Africans being the main contributors of the slave trade. It's very irresponsible for you not to state your source when there's plenty throughout history. The irony of who you're responding to with this info is beyond me.

Ahhhmazing. I’ve slowly become very interested in black history! As an American who went to public school this was definitely not something they taught. I have children now and I want them to learn more than the watered down versions of the mostly all white history. There’s so much more to history than what we learned and it’s interesting and important to learn.

I am a naturalized Canadian originally from Nigeria. When I first moved to Canada there were not to many blacks in the province where I leaved. I could be in a store and be the only black person there. I remember visiting the US almost 10 years after I’d been living in Canada and seeing black people in Detroit. You should have seen me beaming from ear to ear. Just happy to see them. Some were probably freaked out at me. I felt like screaming ‘THESE ARE MY PEOPLE.’

If you're black nobody from Detroit was freaked out by your presence. Black people are use to seeing other black people in a city like Detroit. Canada is not America and I believe the black population there is no more than 2 to 3 percent. and Though America has never been more than 13 percent black,. Detroit is a city that has a high concentration of black folks. So it would seem like there are more than a 12 to 13 percentage of blacks there and that we all live in Detroit, MI in the States, which isn't true. Where you land does have an impact on your perception.

When you live in a place where people gawk at you for how different you are everyday, to see a familiar face who's different like you is more comforting than you could ever know. It's not like OP is saying they were incapable of feeling love and empathy for all people, but that it was a relief to no longer be a spectacle among other people. To feel normal in any aspect is a blessing that isn't understood until you lose it.

I'm Mexican, but on my mother's side I have ancestry from the Angola/Congo region. In Veracruz, where my grandfather was from, there is an iconic heroe known as the "First Liberator of the Americas", Gaspar Yanga, whom I idolize the same as Pancho Villa or Emiliano Zapata. It is rumored, one of Mexico's greatest presidents, Vicente Guerrero, is of African descent. Guerrero abolishing slavery in Mexico in 1829 coincidentally I think further cements this claim.

This is the first time I learned about the details of slave trade . Good job and informative.

I love how engaging this was and the music was a nice touch! I didn't know 80% of this history. Thanks for this. 🙌🏽

The Long Juju Of Aro Chukwu, the Igbo tribe, surfaced at the tail end of the trade hence short lived. The Fulanis had limited access to the Atlantic Ocean thus their Slave trading activities were mainly with the Arabs via the Sahara Deserts. A Great summary of a Research work. A+

Things that Japanese children are exposed to at an early age. We must not allow our children to create in their minds solely the image of the "perp walk" and nothing else.

@Tea Nelson nah it wasn't like that, there were a bunch of different and unique tribes in Africa (Africans did not all see themselves as one race back then) and these tribes would sell members of their enemy tribes into slavery.

The Haitian Creole is from the Fond, Igbo, Wolof, and the Congolese language.

Are you saying that’s where our ancestors came from if so that’s true . Also add the Congo , and bara tribe of Madagascar. Basically we in Haiti are a mixture of various African regions. As far as the creole language , while certain regions in Haiti speak creole a little more “ raw “ than others who speak it closer to French idk it’s definitely a broken French more than anything , one thing that’s funny though everywhere creole is spoken even African countries etc we can somewhat understand each other.

I'm Yoruba, and I've been following his channel for years, he does his research. The reason we aren't clued up about history, is because of lack of investment in education and religious dominance and indoctrination, caused by previous Nigerian administrations. I don't think the person telling you to doubt these videos does so, besides for anti Fulani sentiments. Awesome. But the temne’s are actually from guinea. But because they are aggressive people by nature they were chased out of guinea and majority of them settled in Sierra Leone. Yaa Moremi Queen yeah but can't put all the blame on them though being a minority can be hard if you're not strong you will lose your identity. That is one of the reason that it's in the benefit of every black people not born in Africa to go visit the continent to help strengthen their identities

Wrong my sister. Slaves were snatched all over Africa, however do understand you get confused due to the English Language, but you should know when Europeans arrived Africans had their own Languages and Cultures, even Religions, God knew them and they knew God. Christianity and Islam is not Black people's religions, that's why is important to know who is saviour and our Prophet, Mfumu Kimbangu Mvuluzi, through him all blacks will be blessed.

I don't know what all over Africa is. Slaves to the Americas came from the west. Slaves from the east and North went elsewhere (Euope and Modern day Middle East) Southern Africa never really enslaved anyone. South Africa's slaves came from Asia and the San tribe

I’m an Angolan born citizen, and I can tell you that Bankongo and Ngola people ( Mbundu) are the same, and that the Kikongo language is one of the closest to the Hebrew language
