WHO ARE THE AMHARA PEOPLE? (Ancient Egyptians?)

#Amhara #amharamusic Amhara People. Deep in the heart of Ethiopia, a proud and ancient culture endures. The Amhara people have lived in these highlands for centuries, preserving their unique customs and traditions through times of war and change. In this documentary, we will explore the rich history and vibrant way of life of the Amhara tribe.
The Amhara are one of the major ethnic groups in Ethiopia, making up around 27% of the population.
The Amhara speak Amhara. It belongs to the Semitic branch of the Afro-Asiatic language family, and is the largest member of the Ethiopian Semitic group. Amhara is spoken by over 21 million people in Ethiopia. It is the second most widely spoken language in the country. The Amharic language has its own unique script, called the Geez script, which is written from left to right. The Amharic language has a rich cultural heritage and has played an important role in the history of Ethiopia, being used as the main language of the country for many centuries.
Genetic studies have shown that the Amhara are a mixture of several ancient populations, including indigenous Ethiopian groups, populations from the Near East, and African groups from the Horn of Africa. The Amhara people have a long and complex history of migration, intermarriage, and cultural exchange, which has contributed to the diverse genetic heritage of the group. The exact genetic makeup of the Amhara is complex and is the result of a long history of migration, intermarriage, and cultural exchange. Writing in 1998, Tegegne Teka wrote that "the Amhara do not possess what people usually refer to as objective ethnic markers: common ancestry, territory, religion and shared experience except the language. The Amhara have no claims to common ancestry. They do not share the same sentiments and they have no mutual interests based on shared understandings. It is, therefore, difficult to conclude that the Amhara belong to an ethnic group. But this does not mean that there is no Amhara identity".
The Amhara have a strong sense of identity and pride and have played a significant role in Ethiopia's history. They have traditionally been farmers and herders, and agriculture remains a key part of their economy today. The Amhara are skilled artisans, known for their intricate basketry, pottery, and textiles. These crafts are passed down from generation to generation, preserving the tribe's cultural heritage.
But perhaps the most striking aspect of Amhara culture is their deep spiritual beliefs. The tribe follows the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, which has its roots in ancient Egyptian Christianity. The Amhara hold their religious practices and rituals in high regard, and they play a central role in community life.
Amharas adhering to any of the Abrahamic religions do not eat pork or shellfish of any kind for religious reasons. Amhara Orthodox Christians do not consume meat and dairy products (i.e. egg, butter, milk, and cheese) during specific fasting periods, and on every Wednesday and Friday except the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost. On all other days, meat and dairy products are allowed. A variety of vegan dishes are consumed during fasting periods.
The Amhara people have a rich and diverse culture, with many different customs and traditions. One of the most well-known is the traditional coffee ceremony, where coffee is prepared and served to guests as a sign of hospitality. The Amhara also have a strong tradition of music and dance, with many traditional instruments and styles.
The Amhara are also known for their strong agricultural traditions. They grow a variety of crops in the highland terraces, including teff, the main ingredient in Ethiopia's staple food, injera bread.
Despite their cultural richness, the Amhara have faced many challenges in recent years. In the 20th century, these people were targeted by successive Ethiopian governments, who sought to suppress their culture and identity. This led to the loss of many traditional customs and practices and a decline in the Amhara language.
In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in Amhara culture and identity, with many young people seeking to learn more about their heritage. This has led to a renewed appreciation of traditional customs and practices, and a renewed interest in the Amhara language.
Despite the challenges they have faced, the Amhara people remain a proud and resilient people, with a rich culture and history. I hope you have learned something new about the Amhara people. Thanks for watching yet another enlightening Afroartista film mini-documentary and see you on the next one.

In this video I have incorrectly stated that Amhara is the second most popular language in Ethiopia. I apologize for the error and I would like to clarify that Amhara is the most widely spoken language in Ethiopia as it is the offical language of the country. Thank you for bringing this into attention.

He said: Let me take retaliation. He said: Take retaliation. He said: You are wearing a shirt but I am not. The Prophet (ﷺ) then raised his shirt and the man embraced him and began to kiss his side. why r u lying like this?!?!?! "...if the servers are Oormo, you'll feel a distinct chill when you speak Amharic" LOL just say i dont like Oromos and keep it pushing. Oromos are soo down to earth that they would accomodate to customers, vistors, guests etc as best as they can. Oromos are naturally multilingual and would speak a language that best suits to communicate and interact. Hell i went back home & they spoke amharic until they realised we spoke Oromo too. Amharic is the official language of the country aka ANY ethnic groups know basic sentences to speaks it. Unless they are surrounded by their ethnic group/family/communities they will speak their ethnic tongue. this evil agenda and bias towards Oromos is disingenuous, pursuing to "destory" the reputation of Oromos when anyone who has lived AMONG us can attest to our kindness, selflessness, humour and values. Now u didn't say the servers were based in ethio but vegas, idk how u would expect ALL Oromos to know Amharic?? God knows i dont even know a word besides hello. so when a Amhara speaks Amharic to me, i kindly inform them i only know Oromo, otherwise i have to do mental gymanstics to figure out what they are trying to say. Maybe learn a few Oromo words if you want to interact with these Oromo servers, OR learn a few Tigriyna words to interact with a Tigray server, OR learn a few Arabic words to interact with a Arab server, OR a few English words to interact with a American server etc. its reasonable and logical to assume certain ethnic groups would only know their ethnic tongue and the language of the country they currently live in example America in your case most would somewhat know English. Now if this was in Ethio, everyone in the city would know Amharic compared to villages and remote communities there.

Thank you for the documentary. I noticed a few factual errors though. One, the map is wrong. Amhara borders Eritrea in the North and Sudan in the North West. The map used in the video was created by Oromo Nationalists who want to wipeout Amharas from Ethiopia. Also, the Amhara people live throughout Ethiopia though the biggest Amhara population reside in Amhara Region. Amharic is spoken by 70 to 80 percent of Ethiopians.

CORRECTION: I don't believe you did your homework well before you made this erroneous segment. First of all, the Amharas share more than a language. What they share are : 1. The common ancestry rooted in Himyar tribes from Eden peninsula ( present day Yemen) whom were later on pushed out by Bedouin Arabs. N.B - Eden was the eastern half of ancient Ethiopia / Axumite civilization based. 2. Anthropology meaning the traditional values and moral values evident in all Amhara groups in present day Ethiopia. The way they dress, dance, commune, build houses, practice farming, etc speak for themselves. 3. The sense of belonging based not only on language but also the Amhara lineages that have historical influences and ties to ancient, medieval and modern Ethiopia. The source you cited that whatever his name is, is affiliated with what you call a neo-liberalist and anarchist lowlifes who have nothing better to do except target traditional cultures and ethnicities throughout the globe. These days their target has become Orthodox faith and strong Orthodox communities. I look forward to your remake of this segment to enhance your Afro Artista project...such a terrible video. That was a great vedio. Amharas are the most peaceful and inclusive societies with ancient civilization. I wish you mentioned about thier great historical and UNESCO heritage sites like Lalibela, Fasiledus Palace and the source of the Nile, Lake Tana. From unique music, to art, religion and writings, cousin , textile, language and so many fabrics of Ethiopan identity, Amharas have one of the most powerful contributions to the Ethiopian societies and provided unique diversity to the world. In Ethiopia Amharas are known by being open to all other people groups for marriage and living with other socities across the country. Enjera is a comon and most loved food, which is the creation of Amharas and is now has been widly known around the world. These rich identity , however, has not been appreciated by elites from some people groups who have maintained that Amharas must be mascared because of thier influence. Organized groups such as OLF and TPLF have an open policy to eliminate Amharas, which has resulted in the suffering and death of millions of Amharas for many decades. They created false narratives against Amharas as part of thier stratgy and spread it to young people in thier community. Now these young people grow up with these hate are ruthlessly kill Amharas including unborn babies, just because they are Amharas. To this day, these attrocities continued. Amharas have been a victim of anti semitic sentiments.because thier language is semetic. Despite these challenges , they hold on to thier identity and are proud of thier identity. They are the largest ethnic groups in Ethiopia. Equally, they have been margnized from the country's poletical and economics due to the hate against them by these groups. Thier forfathers were in the forfront in fighting against invading powers and colonialists, making Ethiopia the only black nation to never be colonized by the European powers. Thus, has become the source of pride and motivation for the freedom fighting in Africa and around the world. There are so much about Amharas but at this time they are facing a serious of genocidal killings.

Ancient Egyptians? Not by a long shot. This video requires a bit more Indepth research, if it is going to talk about the Amhara people. The background of the House of Amhara (Bete Amahara) is very complex and is enter woven with the history of Ethiopia itself. For anyone who is really interested about the genesis of Ethiopia, now, literally today, is the perfect time to do research because the fervor of being an Amhara is burning hot again. The Amharas are up in arms and are about to teach the rest of Ethiopians what it means to be warriors. The past 30 to 40 years, the integrity of Ethiopia itself has been eroded by three consecutive governments and now is dithering on a collapse. So, in this effort of dismantling Ethiopia, the Amharas have taken the brunt of the violence for the past thirty years, but more obviously in the past five years. Now they have said enough is enough. They are armed to the teeth and are vowing to dismantle the current government and drive out those who are party to dismantle Ethiopia once and for all from the Ethiopian territory. A good attempt and a decent start but you need to do a lot more due diligence when talking about the history of Amharas.
