The Last Question | Isaac Asimov

Ғылым және технология

"This is by far my favorite story of all those I have written. After all, I undertook to tell several trillion years of human history in the space of a short story and I leave it to you as to how well I succeeded. I also undertook another task, but I won't tell you what that was lest l spoil the story for you. It is a curious fact that innumerable readers have asked me if I wrote this story. They seem never to remember the title of the story or (for sure) the author, except for the vague thought it might be me. But, of course, they never forget the story itself especially the ending. The idea seems to drown out everything - and I'm satisfied that it should."

The idea that the cause for the existence of the universe lies at the end of time always fascinated me.

This is quite possibly one of the best short stories ever told. Close behind it come the Egg, imho.

Fascinating! Mankind creates an unintentional cyclic Universe. I wonder how Boltzmann would have responded to this?

Hey you did a great job on this man! Your narration is solid. All your voices for the dialogue did a lot for the immersion factor. The visuals you picked were fantastic! Thank you for sharing this. I looked all over YT for a such a presentation but I'm pretty confident that yours is the only one of its kind on the platform. Most every video I tried before was someone reading over a static screen. Others were worse. Your video is exactly what I was looking for. I've been wanting to share this story with friends and family but you understand that watching a video--even a long one--is generally more effective than putting a book in front of most people. So thank you again for putting this together. Such a beautiful story! There is a lot to unpack therein. I'll be subscribing to your channel. Not sure if you make a lot of videos or if so what kind but I'm excited to explore your uploads and will be looking forward to more from you in the future. Awesome video man! One more time, thank you so much.

Thanks! Although I have to say that the narration isn't ours, mainly because English isn't our native language (we're Dutch). But the sources are mentioned in the description.

One thing Isaac didn't think of when writing this is Black Holes and Quantum Gravity. We still don't know enough about Black Holes, much less Quantum Gravity. I know one recent Quantum loop gravity news item that says they've shown that a Black hole leads to a white hole. It goes from one universe to another.
