A tribute to Tywin Lannister, the man who raised House Lannister from scratch, created the most powerful dynasty and legacy. He's a great character and the most powerful man in Westeros, and that's why the Lannister are so powerful, but the Lannister's power died with him in a toilet.

@@purpledragons1146 It’s like Cersei said. Tywin was so concerned with his family, or more specifically, its legacy, than with his actual family. Everything Tywin did was to secure the Lannister reputation. Also, the Reynes refused to repay loans (or taxes, doesn’t matter) that Tywin’s father gave to them, and they rose up in revolt when Tywin pressed the issue. So the Lannisters were actively fighting a rebellion against the Reynes. Did Tywin have to wipe out an entire family to ensure the Lannisters’ reputation? Probably not, but it made the job much easier. Now, the Rains of Castemere song acts as a reminder to anyone who stands against them.

@@anaemiliaalmeida7238 She just had too much of them without the ability to back them up that he had. Pride is fine when justified by ability and tempered by cunning or wisdom or both. Narcissism has few claims for it but I'm not sure Tywin or even Cersei really had that. Hypocrisy, I can't decide how much to charge either with it, but it's a valid tool of politics, when used with skill. Ambition is praiseworthy, if you have what it takes.

I think one of the greatest tragedies that may happen in the books is of Tywin's life work. Every action he took, from his careful and effective ruling of a continent for decades, every ruthless deed, every line crossed, every letter written, every war and battle fought; every sacrifice Tywin made throughout his life of his own happiness (if he had any bit left after the death of his precious Joanna) and that of others in the pursuit of securing his heir and House Lannister's dominance of the realm will have been for nothing.

Strategically, he wanted his son Jaime to inherit Casterly Rock, Jaime can then continue the bloodline of the family and the legacy of his father, but the man's got no interest and goes on rebelling against his plans. Cersei's marriage to Robert was indeed beneficial to the Lannister Family, and could be more if she pushed the marriage between her and Loras, creating another Lannister blood that would dominate the Reach. But, Cersei refused. And Tyrion, if his marriage to Sansa was consummated, the Lannister family would have also domination over the north, which would bring the Riverlands and the Vale (of whom which Sansa has blood ties) to the crown's fold, under Lannister blood. Tywin does not hold power nor grasp it nor take possession of it. He is power in Westeros itself. Which makes him a man of a powerful force that all of Westeros can reckon with.

This is a very interesting observation. The Lannisters ruled the West, from Casterly Rock. With Tyrion's marriage to Sansa, they would rule the North. With Loras's marriage to Cersei, they would influence the East (The Reach & The Highgarden) With Myrcella's marriage to Trystane, they would also similarly influence the South (Dorne). The existing ruler - Tommen - being a puppet king who was completely controlled by Tywin, with Cersei being too mentally weak after Joffrey's death to resist any attempts I would not be surprised if Tywin & Olenna conspired together to kill Joffrey, as Tommen was much easier to manipulate & control due to his naïveté and wasn't as much of a tantrum-thrower as Joffrey.

The reason why his children turned out to be like that was because of Tywin himself. Tywin only worked on his personal goals, and never cared for anything but his wife.
Tywin always have a little soft corner of Tyrion, but he showed it barely because he was the man who do things according to his principles and ethics for his family sake. He started war for Tyrion and the way he looked at the people who were laughing at Tyrion for being short during his wedding with Sansa was something.
For me the show lost its balance when Tywin died. He knew the way out of the hardest of situations. He was really a smart guy
If Tywin is alive in 8th season he would surely marry cersi with night king .
He was the one who was truly in charge the whole time
If you think about it. Tywin was a good father. Everything he did was to benefit his family and family name. My dad is a good dad, but no ambition and weak. Like Tywin’s dad, Tystos. Having a dad like Tywin only makes you the best version of yourself. Only if you want it bad enough.
If only Tywin loved his son Tyrion. Tyrion was smart and cared about the good of his family, but Tywin just couldn't accept that a dwarf could be his son and heir.

Imagine being a billionaire and having the choice of giving your entire inheritance of wealth, power, and lands. Either to a skilled military man, or a drunken, whoring, disfigured man that would bring shame to your name and few would follow. It's not very much of a choice at all if you're looking for what you built to last at least. Despite all the personal reasons behind the refusal for him to be named heir, Tyrion would most likely have suffered the same ultimatum as Samwell did. He was given the best life someone of his standing could have hoped for.
He was a cold ruthless bastard but he could run a kingdom.
