Goodness gracious! The amount of information us as ex mormons have to sift through to get answers and compile an accurate and respectable paper trail is insane. To answer the question of what Joseph or people around him did not talk about means reading almost everything else they did discuss.

I can't wait to die so Heavenly Father will correct my gay orientation and make me straight so I can marry a woman that I probably won't want to be sexually intimate with... Go Carah, I can't fathom to understand the account of all the "Vision in the Grove" stories the Church wants us to believe, hopefully Heaven Father will convey what really happened in that Grove. Big Hugs!

Yes! Ex Long time investigator here, and this is SO me! Missionaries won’t teach me because I know too much. I’d love to see how I can fuck up a lesson for them with a newbie. Missionary: “We believe that families are forever.” Me: “ONLY if you pay 10%, everybody in your family has to believe forever, and you HAVE TO HAVE a temple recommend. BUT you can only get that recommend if you pay that 10% AND you answer all of our questions right.”

It’s always amazing much the church continues to change, my home teacher or whatever they call it now came over to invite me to an Easter program and told me that church is only one hour a week now. I left 6 years ago because after much study I found out that the church was a 19th fabrication. The church continues to morph into something that is no longer recognizable as the church I grew up in.

It's one hour for Easter and Christmas Sundays. For worship at home. The other weeks it's 2 hours still.

@@katiecrozier3179 You mean "now," not "still." Church services were 3 hours for generations and only changed to 2 hours somewhat recently. The meetings were (not in order) Sacrament Meeting, Sunday School, and the individual group meetings such as seventies, priests, deacons, young women, primary and so on. This was the weekly minimum, and did not include pre and post services such as quorum leadership meetings, interviews, tithing settlement, firesides, etc, etc, etc. The church intentionally monopolizes as much of your free time as possible.

Oh, you're so cute with all your facts and things. But what does the spirit say about the first vision? No. I don't know if Joseph taught that the spirit is only a force or also a separate being... He taught both? *A voice from the back of the room: "The spirit tells me that Allah is God, and Mohamed, may his name be praised, is His prophet." *Another voice speaks: "I have felt the spirit, and I know it is the voice of Mazda urging me to do good works, speak good words, and think good thoughts." *Yet another voice chimes in: "There are no gods, but if you follow the teaching of the Buddha, you will become at one with the spirit and find enlightenment." "Don't you mean Nirvana?" "The spirit tells me to pray the rosary." "I tell you, Christ and only Christ can save!" "Have you heard of the Goddess?" "The spirit speaks with the voice of my ancestors. Their lives show me the way." Why doesn't the spirit speak more clearly to us all which way we should all believe?

If you don't mind just a little constructive criticism, this feels kind of like throwing a whole bunch of data at people in an attempt to prove you're right (which you are), so the natural reaction is to dig in one's heels and become more entrenched in their (wrong) position. People leave the church when they realize that staying in the church doesn't align with their values. For some people, that can be finding out the truth claims aren't actually valid, but in the 21st century anyone who still thinks there's a chance the earth is 6,000 years old, the flood really happened, and the Book of Mormon was written by ancient Jews in America probably has a somewhat robust immunity to facts and evidence. Getting people to identify their core values and question whether the church represents those values is how change really happens.

In one way you’re correct but in another mistaken. Carah’s motivation for this delightful video is more nuanced than your “constructive criticism” because her audience is actually more exmo than faithful LDS. The average LDS is clueless about this issues raised in this video so as an exmo myself I love how Carah inserts her brilliant comedian personality into the farce of The First Vision in such an incisive and rapid fire version. I hope she turns this style into a series of hilarious Gospel Topic Essay performances! 👏

... Joseph Smith saw Baha'u'llah and Abdul-Baha - "This is my beloved son and whom I am well pleased. Hear him.."... Abdyl-Baha (servant of God) is the spiritual master of the Bahai religion. His father is the Messiah 🌴🕊️🌴 An early account describes two men with long black locks in the garb of Persian nobleman
