But... Seriously? Ballard is converting to Catholicism??!! I turned against Catholicism when I was a teenager - long before the priest scandal. I'm sure he will be able to find plenty of marks (suckers) there. The fact that the Roman Catholic Church is still standing after the scandal is proof that they will tolerate ANYTHING so... I'm sure he will have a great time there. But is he really converting or was that a joke? Seriously

In a lot of ways the Catholic Church is less demanding of an individual's time than the Mormon church...I'm sure that's a plus for him since he needs time to plan his bs...

Well, I think the idea was: early colonizer fanfiction of the bible led to secondary fanfiction of that fanfiction by J.Smith in the form of the Book of Mormon. That led to fan fiction of the Book of Mormon by Tim Ballard and others, which led to crimes and grifts, etc

To be clear on my part, the only connection to the Bible from the book of Mormon is that the BoM imagines multiple groups of Hebrews sailing to the America's. And then Jesus shows up after the Resurrection. Neither Carah nor I think these events happened. Just that J Smith and other people around his time imagined these connections between ancient Jews and the native americans.
