The KEYS to Shot Put Hand Position | Shot Put Foundations
Спорт
Back again with round 2 of Shot Put Foundations. How To Hold The Shot Put. A good throw is always going to start with how you position your hand on the shot. Finding the right grip, a secure neck position, and a good line of force through the elbow is step 1 to learning to throw your best. Find that good feel on the ball, and make sure you're consistent with it every time. Sooner or later it'll become second nature and you can master the next step. Coming soon!
Let me know what kind of hand position you use in the comments! -RC

It probably took some work to gather and incorporate the photos of different throwers but they are super helpful. Thanks for including them!

My day just got 10x better because of this video 🔥
Thank you, Mr. Crouser, for showing us our 2 times gold olimpic medalist, Mr. Tomasz Majewski. Greetings from Poland! I wish you, Mr. Crouse, gold medal at Paris Olimpics! Great channel!
I like how this is simple and makes sense to beginners and advanced

yes, I have a PR of 20.01 meters, but I still watch and it’s interesting
College coach here: I used this video to help two of my Shotputters that were struggling with hand positioning. After talking them through it, on their very next throws one of them threw an almost 2 meter lifetime PR and the other threw a meter and some change over their season PR. Everything in this video is super helpful Ryan explains everything in a way that's easy to understand and even includes pictures of what he's saying to help you understand it better. Ryan you are a true master of your craft. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to anyone that wants to hear it!
I have been messing around with my grip and placement on the neck lately and this video is really going to help a lot! Very much appreciated! Greetings form the Netherlands

Glad it helped!
I started out with a spread but almost everytime I release the shot it rolls out of my hand. With the the other placement of just 3 fingers in the center the throws are more consistent. Putting the ball closer under my jaw like Storl and Tim, I found my self easily generating more piwer into my throws.

This is a great example for other throwers of trying different things and figuring what works for you
Love the content Ryan, keep it going!
Great to see you posting
Great Series!
This will be a great help ❤
Exactly what I need. My grip needs so much improvement

The GOAT 🔥
Valuable content🎉🎉🎉
Grazie dall'Italia!!
It's great video ❤
Finally!!!
I'd be curious to see how you'd do in a World's Strongest Man type of competition. Historically, there were some great strongmen who came over from throwing sports.
There you go, that's it right there. That's that grip and hand position right there.
me only being a discus thrower but still have to watch cause ryan is the undisputed goat and I can still pull wisdom from ryan teaching about the shot grip
Ryan crosser is the Goat shot puter
Helps alot ive been losing a bunch of feet just from how bad my placement was
I like how you put the Shot From kenya
Mr Crousar, could you do a video on seperation in the middle of the circle please 🙏🏾
I am big fan brother
Whenever he post my throw goes up by at least a foot
babe wake up Ryan posted
I have an issue with over rotating out of the back so what should I do?
Ryan, do you believe that all your throws have been measured accurately in competitions? Do you think that measurements should become less manual and more technical?
Looking forward to seeing you represent USA this summer!! Would you want to change your elbow height based upon glide vs spin? Since the force path is different for each method? Maybe a lower elbow for the more linear glide, for example? Thanks for the video!!
@RyanCrouser23

Yeah, in general, I would recommend a lower elbow for the glide, but they’ll be exceptions to every rule, overall though technique tends to lend itself to a lower elbow

@@RyanCrouser23Thank you, Sir!!
What wrist wrap do you use
Just started training with 2028 in mind. Always been gym strong but I have bigger aspirarions now. Ryan really is an inspiration would hope to compete one day against the king of the circle 🫡
How would I get Nike to make size 16 or higher throwing shoes?
I have seen almost every shot thrower have wide palm and thick finger but I think haven’t it and many time I got pain😢 suggest work to build that. By the way I do hammer throw🙂
Please make whole series on rotational techiqinique
Poor Erich having to edit so many videos 😢🤣

Can you tell us exercises for shot put
My coach is Josh Freeman
Shotput 7.26 how to throw this 9, metre please guide for new student
this is my forth year of throwing shot put i'm now 17 5'4 155lb sophomore, I've thrown 35' in practice but have yet to break 30 in a meet with a 12lb what the heck can i do, my teammates throw 39-45 feet, ive done glide and spin but i have no throwing shoes
I used to balance the shot on my thumb like a pedestal, with my thumb folded to the middle of my hand. Then three fingers together and my pinky outside the ball for stability. Not saying that's a good idea, just that's what I did. This was 35 years ago. We didn't have the internet and most of us didn't have a coach that had ever thrown a shot put.
I am using glide technique.few people say rotational technique best. glide not best.your glide PR
I use all my four fingers to flick off of it, should I change it to a 3 finger grip? I'm not a high level putter, so I do want to fix any bad habits now.
@RyanCrouser23

If you can get a consistent flick of the shot with four fingers, I would say keep doing it. The only issue is that you’re not gonna have that top side control of the ball with the pinky if you have a throw that might be a little bit out of position.

@@RyanCrouser23I'll try that three finger grip next time I practice, and I'll give it at least 5 throws to see if it can help me. Thanks for the help!
Is it OK to return to shotput training at age 35
