The Kettlebell Swing for Beginners: A Simple and Safe How-To
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This video will walk you through a simple sequence to learn the kettlebell swing. If you're just getting started with the swing, these movements are great tools to help you along your way to being able to safely and effectively perform the full kettlebell swing. Each move builds upon the next until you are doing the complete exercise. You'll see me perform each part of the sequence and I'll explain how to do it in detail.
The great thing about this series is that it takes something that might look to be a complicated or intimidating movement and breaks it down into very do-able and safe parts. And if you've never swung a kettlebell before, then this learning sequence is a great workout in and of itself. So, grab a kettlebell and join me!

*By functional I mean you can comfortably swing or carry it **bestgym.equipment** around as one would expect of a kettlebell weight. By versatile I mean the protective coating does not prevent attaching magnetic micro-plates to increase the weight, so, for example, a 35 pound kettlebell can be increased by up to 5 pounds in weight or possibly a bit more by attaching magnetic micro-plates.*
I hate when people just tell to lift heavier and heavier. This was really necessary and technical video i should have watched one year back. Thanks man!
This is one of the best tutorials I've seen for anything fitness related, you should be proud of it!

the best kettlebell swing tutorial I found, thank you a lot!
WELL. i am a complete beginner, and this video is exactly what i need and was looking for. may you be blessed for saving many from injury and, through proper instruction, aiding encouragement to folks wanting to improve their strength/health !
Thank you so much. I’m at the end of my third week with a kettlebell and I keep pulling muscles and getting pains in areas I’m not even trying to work out lol. I’ve watched so many tutorials but none of them break down each movement. They just say “like this!” and run through the entire movement at normal speed. Seeing each fundamental movement broken down is invaluable and is sure to save me a lot of aches and pains and injuries later on! 👍
Best instruction I've seen.
This is the absolute best explanation of the mechanics of the swing. Everyone else has "beginner 101" yet they are introducing actual workouts, and completely ignore the mechanics for correctness of movement. Thanks for this.

Thank you for showing what form is supposed to look like. I appreciate you for not making love to camera being impressed with yourself. I've been doing these wrong and getting back strain, your "chop" explanation helped me with my form
This video is definitely for beginners. I like your simple progressions to the full swing. You are the first person to teach the preparatory movements. I am definitely going to follow your technique and build up to the full kettlebell swing. Thanks for taking the time to teach the kettlebell swing.

Thanks, Krishna! Glad you found us and that the video was so helpful.
I found it fascinating to watch the progression of developing the skills and muscles to perform a good kettlebell swing. This is one of the best how to videos I have ever seen.
This is a great tutorial. I won't even say it's for beginners. It covers the safe, proper most beneficial way to get into the swing for anyone who doesn't want to suffer musculoskeletal injuries.
Thank you so much for this video. Instead of simply discussing form and what muscles to engage or saying that we need to keep everything tight to be safe with the KB swing you actually provided an easy to follow tutorial so that I don’t go into this as a beginner and practice without knowing true correct form because even a few poorly formed swings could lead to injury 🙃
I finally believe I can master this motion thanks to this tutorial. Beast mode!!
One of the best tutorials on this movement/exercise! Excellent!
I love training and teaching Kettlebells and I love the movement patterns that you demonstrate this break down is rather fabulous :)

Glad this is useful for you! Regarding the full swing, do you mean more of a CrossFit-style overhead swing? Brandon is RKC/StrongFirst trained, so this swing he demonstrates here isn't much lower than the full Russian-style swing.

I appreciate this video. I keep hearing how great and easy the kettlebell is for full body toning, but it scares me a little. I don't want to harm my back using it. These movements look like a great way to get acquainted with the kettlebell without injury. When I'm ready to incorporate the kettlebell into my routine I will start with these movements.

What kettlebell weight is used in the video?
As a beginner, how do I know what is an ideal weight for me? I currently only bicep curl 12kg.. I want one for lots of different movements...or do I need more than one for that?
Exactly what I need, I have been told I can do this safely with my diastasis recti, do you agree? Excellent.

What is the starting weight I can use? I have 20lbs and I find it heavy?
Is the kB swing safe for diastasis recti? Thanks
Wow, This is very great vdo. I have question sir. My arms kind of short and I need to lower my knees and push my butt back more is this a good form ?

As long as you are generating the power from your glute and keeping your core tight and back straight, you are probably doing all right. That said, your best bet would be to have a trainer check you out, even if it's just for one lesson.
I like working out with kettle bells
I wish I could put this on repeat on a screen at my gym; so much bad form out there (which is probably why I never see the same people doing swings more than once or twice). Thanks for this!
I keep hearing about how beneficial the kettlebell swing is for other applications. If you know of those applications would you please explain how & in what ways this exercise is so beneficial? Thanks.

Hi there - Anything that needs core strength and posterior train strength will be benefited by training the kettlebell swing. So, that's a LOT of activities and movements. It also trains coordination and balance.
how much kg kettlebell?

The weight will vary for each person depending on strength and skill level. No need for a weight belt ever on this movement.
which weight do you recommend for an average build 35 year old guy

Hi Oscar -- It's always best to start lighter and get your form right to begin with. So start as light as 12kg or 16kg and work up from there when you feel confident in your technique.
that swing was so low
