In 12 days, it will be September 30th and 66 years, since his passing. I wasn’t born yet, however, growing up it seemed, every young adult in the 50’s connected to him and that he represented their generation. I still haven’t figured it out. However, outside my home, everybody, especially my hippie teachers, all had pictures of him - so I got postcard pics too. I still have them in mint condition. I was familiar with all his work as a child, in several languages, but didn’t really understand the complexity of being a teenager, during that time: “Rebel without a Cause” “East of Eden” “Giant” and the TV movies & stage plays made about him thereafter. I do find myself explaining who he was to the next generation and sadly do feel that his legacy is fading away or misunderstood Now it’s all about him and Marlon Brando being lovers; I ‘m okay with it, this generation seems to be obsessed with labels. However, every experience doesn’t define us. He was only 24, I graduated from college and traveled the world expensively for work at that age and I’ve never been so lonely, but I got to know myself in the process and learned many different cultures & languages and even bought a house for my parents. I was open minded, but was clear on my values. I’m certain he was going through something similar. He inspired me, but sadly it seems that his legacy is fading or being lost on the future generations. Too often I get James Dean who? That’s why I’m searching KZread to share these videos

Some people can argue about it for there's so many great actors in Hollywood with much more body of work but James Dean dazzles on screen like no other ever with acting style and improvisations only his that separates him from the rest or every other great actor of any era.

It just hurts my heart that he died so young. His artistic acting was so great and he was only 24 years old when the world lost this artistic genius. Can you imagine the artist creative heights he would have reached at the ages of 34 or 44 or 54 etc. I ask myself Why God did Jimmy have to leave this world at such a young age? He could of brought the world so much joy with his great creative talents. As it is written in the holy scriptures: For they know not the thoughts of the Lord neither do they understand his council. Because I don't understand why one of the greatest artistic talents was lost to our planet at such a young age. God bless you James Byron Dean. What of the Greatest artistic acting talents that ever lived always and forever!

Wow mid-50s filmmaking at its intense! And that narrator! I found this amazing to watch. It swept me away to another era. All the interviews, the early NY gf interviewed, the tape recording Jimmy did (!), the crew getting family members to act 'astonished' when the car crash happens ... this doco blew my mind. It shows Jim Dean, the human being rather than the "James Dean, the legend" moniker. Up there to rewatch soon.

this is one of the best documentaries ever, in my opinion, and it's great the made it so soon after his death to catch what it was like...what is noticeable is how it seemed Dean was always preparing for his roles...they say he acted like a boy, or referred to him as boy, but in the TV shows he and two of his films he was always playing teenagers, so for me, he was just getting into character, and people are reading too much into that character preparation assuming it was who he was. I'm not so sure.

James was only 24 yrs old when he passed away and i think he would have found himself in time. He was sensitive and didn't want to be hurt so he went into himself to protect his feelings and at the same time couldn't find himself for that very reason. I think if Jimmy lived he would have come in touch with his inner self. He was an amazing actor because I think to an extent he had to play a certain role in reality. It's sad he didn't live to reach his own potential. He was a true prince~

An interesting "Semi -documentary" from the point of view that people who actually knew him were interviewed...and not that long after his untimely death. But ALL that the Narrator said about his feelings.....motivation......personal experiences was pure speculation! It may make for a good story, full of the pathos of the "lonely, rebellious, deeply sensitive" young man who made good....but it is still only speculation......no one can know what Dean felt......no one can know what his motivation was....because he (Apparently) never got close enough to anyone to share this with them. They say that each of us has 3 faces....One we show to everyone....one we show to our closest friends or lovers...and one we show to no one......perhaps the closest we can come to knowing a little about Dean would be to say that we only ever saw one of his faces.

James Dean had a tragic life from a young age, 9 years old. He lost his mom to cancer & his dad abandoned him. All this at the young age of 9 years old. This is tragic for any little boy, & the fact that James Dean had no siblings. Age 9 would go on to follow him thru adolescents, teenager & young adult hood. He was a phenomenal actor with aspirations of one day becoming a director. I think James Dean was way ahead of his time. He was talented in not only acting but photography, art, sculpture, drawing & auto racing. James Dean was gone way too soon & is forever young at 24 years of age. The possibilities for Dean were endless. He was successful at everything he did. God Bless & RIP James Dean💔🙏💔🙏💔🙏💔🙏💔🙏

Alot of self doubt, but he was driven to try to breakthrough his insecurities that he had. When you have no confidence in yourself, You get reckless. Jim got reckless, and that was his demise. However, he did inspire alot of people. R.I.P. James!

I’m thinking bipolar disorder. They didn’t know about bipolar disorder back then. I’m not a medical doctor. But, I do have friends and relatives who have BPD. It hit home when his former girlfriend said, “one minute he’d be withdrawn, the next moment he’d be up dancing.” The mood swings are a classic example of bipolar disorder. I’ve seen it in people I know personally. They could be happy one moment then fifteen minutes later they could be angry.

I was going 2 be an medical examiner & had 2 get used 2 seeing dead bodies. I went 2 some websites & somehow i came across car accidents & saw james car wrapped around a tree & it showed graphic pics of his actual body. That poor man was damaged real bad. He looked terribly mangled, oh my gosh, people. He was a good actor & only played in 3 movies? He would've played in more movies. The photo failed 2 show his friend tossed from the car.

teresa anderson Where the accident happened there were no trees it was desert. The accident was a head on sideswipe. The hiway was a Y intersection and a car turned in front of him. He was probably running about 80 in that Porsche...

James Dean was very good looking, but he was into S&M-they called him the human ash tray-because he liked to have cigarettes put out on his chest by male lovers. His autopsy report notes a pattern of cigarette burns on his chest. Too Bad. Back in the 50's bad sexual habits weren't publicized with such flourish as today, studios paid lots of money to keep that sort of thing private. I wish they would do that today. I don't want to know my favorites politics or sexual preference, ruins it for me.

I have read and seen many james Dean bios. The negative comment about Marcus Winslow was not only cruel but quite innacurate. DEAN adored both his aunt and uncle. In fact, he told his uncle he wanted to change his name to Marcus Dean for his stage name. His uncle told Dean he was very flattered but that he Should keep his real name. By the way, Liz Taylor gave him a Siamese kiiten at the end of Giant which he named Marcus for his uncle.

@Jarred Knox just because you have chosen not to believe it, doesn't mean it isn't true. The Dean biographies i have read were written by respected biographers, and James Dean wasn't their only subject. Every biography i have read contains footnotes and bibliographies, which is an absolute MUST if the author expects any credibility for his work. There are a couple of "Tabloid Trash" Dean biographies out there, which read like novels rather than authentic biographies. Buyer beware, these " biographers " are out to rip you off!
