Irish/Canadian actor James Doohan, Scotty on Star Trek, was on Juno Beach for the 6th of June 1944. His life and the lives of 14,000 other Canadians were spared from the storm of June 5th because of that weather report.
What is really cool is my father, whose mother had the last name of Malone and was an immigrant to America, was one of those American soldiers in the D-Day Invasion. He would have loved to know this. :)
What a lovely video, Clare. You could see the pride Vincent has for his mother's work. Good man. So much history most people would never be aware of.
Dermot's fuckin' hilarious! He seems like that type of friend that you can't help but playfully push their buttons, because they'll always give you a good laugh for it!
I discovered TRY Channel about a year ago where I "met" you & other TRY-ers. Your channel has been such a wonderful blend of fun and information about Ireland, Irish culture & Irish history. Please don't stop! Sláinte! 🍻
That was a great story and accomplishment of the work they all did also celebrated her 100th BIRTHDAY 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Sending ♥from America. Enjoy all your vids, Clare. This one is extra special to me. My uncle Jack Sweeney was in the US Navy at the Normandy landing, he came home married and named one of his daughters Maureen. He would have loved this story!
Amazing story, Clare !! Thank You for bringing this to my attention ! This story is always left out of the History of D - Day . Have a wonderful day ! 🧡🤍💚☘️☘️☘️
Only watched this yesterday and seen that she passed away today, So awfully sad. Incredible woman with an incredible story. RIP Maureen
Loved to see the sweet, lighthearted, pleasant Dermot……..LOL. I love your tours as I typically only hit the coast so seeing interior cities plus they’re history is wonderful.
Clair this was a fantastic story! Thank you for sharing it!
What an amazing piece of history!
What a fascinating piece of history! Thanks again Clare
This is the kind of history I love best!
Of course there’s a rainbow. Lol. I love Ireland I can’t wait to go back!!! 🇮🇪
Wow, what a story. What a magnificent slice of history. Truly wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing this, I would never know this if not for you sharing this with us. Blessings,❤.
We love you Dermot. You're safe here brother ❤
Ah what a lovely piece of history! Good work Clare!
Great story Claire. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Happy 💯 Birthday to Maureen Sweeney! 🎉🎼🎶🎂🥳 Much love and respect to you, ma'am, from Canada!🇨🇦❤️. I'm delighted to know that she finally became aware of the important role she played in the success of the D-Day landings, and that she has been officially recognized and thanked for it! Always a pleasure to see Dermot make an appearance, as well! Sláinte!
It was past time for me to go to bed when I saw this, but I had to watch. I love things like this, thank you so much!
Even the little lighthouse light tidbit at the end was great. Never knew any of this. Cheers to ya.

Oh they’ve so much more on the tour but I don’t want to give it all away! The architecture is very unique for a lighthouse!
WOW this was so cool thanks for sharing it Claire
Fíor-spéisiúil! 😃
Thank you for this very interesting story.
Videos like this are so feckin' lovely. Thank you.
What a great story! Can't wait to visit on our next trip!
Love these videos 😊
Thank you so much.
That's too cool!
Every video Clizzy, is a banger!!!..... Love the fact that she loves, respects and is so proud of her incredible history and culture....
Thank you 💗
I adore these videos, Clare, especially fascinating historical gems from the lesser-known parts of Ireland.
Dermot hates cameras as much as he hates peanut butter.
Fantastic!
Thanks for shedding light on this remarkable person, Clare!
Thank you
This is so awesome! Great video Clisare!
I love this!! ❤
Maureen is amazing 😍... hope she lives for many more years! (My Irish Gimma was a few weeks shy of her 107th birthday when she passed at home in 2018)
What an interesting and fun summer youve had.
So cool!
That was so interesting!! Thank you so much for bringing us along, that's a special place and a special lady!
Wonderful story!!
yet another interesting vid Clare 🙂 👍
luv me some Clare 😁
Slàinte mhath 👋🏻
Love it!
I loved this video! So interesting. I really love Kick Ass Women stories!
You always make my day … ♥️♥️♥️♥️
My father wasn’t part of D-day, but did come ashore in Normandy a couple of month’s later, and his parents were both born in Mayo, so this was a pretty cool video for me. 🇺🇸 🇮🇪 Dermott never hurts, either. 😂
my grandfather on my mom's side was a combat medic for Canada, not sure if this effected him or not, but it sure made a difference for a lot of others
Hi, My name is Dick 😢 That would be unfortunate, if it were true. Anyway, this is the Story I’ve been waiting to see. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I love the storytelling, the Irish stories are rich and colorful. A real Joy.

And Lovely to see Dermot. I just Watched Ciara squirt Pickle brine on Dermot 20 minutes ago. Absolutely Hilarious. Dermot twice in a Day is a treat.
Great video!
I'm loving this series, Clare! Your man there at the light could be on television

Dermie!
i love dermot even if he doesnt love me 😂😂😂...he is just as grumpy as me! great episode! i mean if that is the right term ❤
DERMOT!!! Edit: Oh, wow... love how history is as formed just as much by the little people as it is by the high and mighty 😁👍🏻
Great story, and how wonderful to learn that Maureen Sweeney is still alive at 100! Lighthouses are so cool; it's a shame that the US Coast Guard has automated all of theirs, eliminating the need for a full time keeper. I'm surprised that Dermot is camera shy, what with him being an actor.
Because the Republic was officially neutral, the fact that they were supplying the Allies with weather information had to be kept secret. It would be a long time before the word got out.
Thought the title meant it was about Claire

You forgot to introduce me to your handsome dark haired tour guide. (Don't forget to build me up a bit...you know, good looking...smart...athletic and modest...don't forget modest)😉
The Irish woman who changed the course of history preented by the Irish woman who advances the course of citizen journalism with each video she produces. My father was dodging buzzbombs in North London at the time monitoring Soviet radio broadcasts for the British United Press. Hi to Millie.
I Love these! But did you say 'Guinness Zero'?!?

Maith. Labhraíonn tú an Ghaeilge go han-mhaith a stór, agus is deas na háiteanna a raibh cónaí orm nuair a bhí mé óg a fheiceáil. Barróg!!!🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻🐻
Wait. What's a Guinness Zero

Well who new Dermot didn't like camera's. Next time bring him a peanut butter sandwich.
well if Dermot doesn't like the camera, know who you should give a go again? Blaithin, maybe check out her show...and record everything so i can watch. jk
Guinness 0???1?? Abomination!!!1!!
