The Invisible Front Camera finally got one thing right...

Under screen cameras are going to be the future.... someday. Get a 4-week trial, free postage, and a digital scale at www.Stamps.com/jerryrig. Thanks to Stamps.com for sponsoring this video! ZTE is back at it again with another under screen camera inside the Axon 40 Ultra. They managed to nail the invisible part perfectly... but what about the camera part of the 'under screen camera'? How does it look? Could it pass for a regular camera? There is only one way to find out.

    Since I very rarely take a selfie I wouldn't mind it at all - they could even omit the front camera as far as I care. I realize I'm far from the typical case however.

    i had bought and used the previous generation axon 30 as my daily driver for the past 4 or so months now and I couldn't be happier as the camera is almost completely invisible when watching widescreen content and is only really noticeable when actively looking for the transition. the camera quality looks the same but that is fine as i never use it and why I was so happy being early to this technology, it makes me happy knowing that since it looks this good it will have to be added to more phones and will force the removal of the stupid camera bump. only issue I have with the phones is that it doesn't have a water resistance rating but since the technology is new i expect it to become more water resistant in the later generations

    @@Unknownuserhtps I'd much rather have one of the phones that has the pop-up motorized front camera than an in-screen one. It does what the in-screen one is trying to do, and more. It hides the camera so there's no notch or hole punch in the screen, and it also uses a regular non-blurry camera so the pictures you do take with it look good. It also hides the camera and blocks the image so you can't get spied on without knowing it, lol.

  • @Unknownuserhtps

    @Unknownuserhtps

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@kasper_429 you can still get spyed on regardless of if your front camera is motorized, all they have to do is make the area the motorized camera sits behind transparent But that out of the way, there are 3 cons to having a motorized camera setup 1.) Less space inside an already cramped phone, fitting in components would be more of a challenge so your sacrifice would be worse specs 2.) Durability, things such as the IP rating automatically drop down because moving parts could allow dust or water into the phone causing massive damage for people that work in dirty job sites *edit* - or the risk of the motor failing at some point in the phones lifespan 3.) Higher price, having moving parts in a phone would raise the price by a bit, making it less accessible for more people. Meaning the company might not want to sacrifice sales so they'd go for under display or normal cameras I like the look of the OnePlus 7 pro, but the idea is horrible Think about it, in 2-5 years this technology will be fully mastered and midrange phones will have it, I wouldn't want companies to take the easy way and in 2030 we are all stuck with crap motorized cameras because they didn't take risks back in 2020🤷‍♂️

For those like me who rarely / don't use the selfie cam except for basic work type video calls & meetings that quality level wouldn't be a major deal. In fact I'd prefer this over the hole punch & notch pandemic that has been with smartphone design for a while now. One thing I also didn't expect like 4:46 is how good they got in hiding it while keeping it still practically usable. Really amazing for real. Maybe compared with the last gen 'pixel binning' a higher resolution 16MP front cam did the trick. Samsung must have overhead your tips to improve image quality Zack. Front cameras are the quintessential "survivorship" bias in phones today. It appears to the CEOs that it's used, when in reality it's only a fraction. I've seen people not even as much as touch theirs a relative's friend having broken his (from before the days of in screen visible cameras) and never fixed it. There's even businesses that offer to disable the camera all together, for privacy reasons. Such a stupid feature. Edit: also, the obvious answer is out there, it just seems that manufacturers are absolutely clueless. Point the camera body upwards, to the top of the phone. Use cut lenses to reduce thickness and as an advantage you also gain a lot of space for optical zoom. Then put a triangle prism with an optical optical blocker on either side. If it cuts light from the front, it's a main camera. If it cuts light from the back, it's a selfie camera. It's absurdly simple to pull off and all the tech involved is ancient at this point (spy cams had this decades ago, there's cameras out there that used film that are pen sized, with brackets to make the camera fit up inside the bigger pen body. So no question of size issues considering spies could take pictures that blown up took in all the information they needed. The engineers could even go three steps into 4D chess and put another prism at the other end that splits the camera duty between either two smaller but high density CMOSes or more sensors with varied packages, like basic infrared or more FLIR (brand) like features. Could even put 4 sensors in a global arrangement and have multiple angle imagery for a very dense picture.

    I think the front camera is one of the big misunderstandings of recent years. We can see the people who use it, to post online pictures of themselves. So it seems like it's a desired feature, but it's like a survivorship bias in that we only see the people who use it, while the wast majority probably do not. So ditching the regular front camera, for something like this might not affect sales negativity in any meaningful way. Personally I couldn't care less about front camera photos, but I do still want it for it's features of unlocking and such. This seems like a great development and I hope more brands start to migrate over to using it.
