Thank you Ernie, and Inside the NBA, for making it clear that this was horrific and not just some incident involving "only" 3 people. It's completely insane when an entertainment show is the only platform in our country to even conjure any kind of meaningful response to this madness. Our political system has completely failed to protect us.

Mexico has a very strict gun control government. I am Mexican-American and a child of two very proud Mexican born people who say you cannot find a single gun shop anywhere in Mexico. Yet, how does a son of el chapo and his henchmen outgun the Mexican military? Where I am going with this is, if people want to commit an act of violence and need the necessary tools to do so, they will gain access to said tools(I.e. guns, knives, etc.) it’s just the way it is. This isn’t a gun control issue. Stop with YOUR BS.

Aussie here. I don’t understand from this distance why it’s so difficult to tighten up gun control laws in the US and make them less accessible. There have been so many horrific incidents/attacks where I’ve thought surely THAT will be the trigger that forces a change… and then it doesn’t. Other countries have provided a blueprint the US could follow. I’m not going to brag Australia is perfect but maybe that’s the problem - people won’t change until there’s a ‘perfect’ solution and there never is.

I can explain it quite easily, unfortunately. It's a business with lobbyists on the far right who support politicians who have votes in Congress. That's pretty much all it takes to freeze action on gun violence forever. We need to be very clear that the RIGHT is AT FAULT here. This isn't an act of God. This is a psychotic political movement-- a death cult-- that is allowing this to happen because it pleases their voting base. It's disgusting and the very definition of corruption.

First off, I am not for banning all guns. I just don’t get why people flip out when we say we need better background checks for people who get guns. Will this solve the problem immediately…..no. But it’s worth a try it’s better than doing nothing. Secondly, if you are a law abiding citizen why do you all flip out so much and are against it, it’s like you have nothing to worry about. Sure the process might be more extensive but if you’re a law abiding citizen you are good. You’ll still get your gun that you purchased. Lastly, two things can be true. Yes, it’s a mental health issue but the weapon of choice seems to be guns. Why are we made to feel like it’s one or the other? Or that we have to argue about it like we can only fix one of those issues. Why can’t we try and fix both. Our society really has lost its way.

  • @dmitryowens

Exactly. It would be impossible to ban all guns in America anyway given how many there are. What we need are stricter gun control regulations and more thorough background checks and mental health evaluations for anyone looking to purchase a firearm. I highly doubt that our Founding Fathers intended Americans with histories of violence and/or mental health issues to be able to purchase and own firearms. I doubt that thought even occured to them since neither was an issue back then.

As much as I like him, Shaq's response is weak. Of course it takes a crazy person to do something like this, but no, this is not a "world" problem. Most countries have severe mass shootings between every 5 and 20 years. America has them every month. As someone who really likes him, I've been very disappointed to see him slide into this borderline politically bad takes like how jails in America are perfectly fine and how guns arent an American problem. Use your platform for something better than lazy both sides BS Shaq.

In the Philppines, there's literally guns everywhere you look, at the mall, every 7-11, every corner but mass shootings, specially at schools, do not ever take place. If you want shootings like this to be way less, let armed guards that are actually allowed to use their guns and protect people do their job and assign them at schools, malls and even churches.....
