That bitch Gwenyth Paltrow for example. Their promotion of problematic products can actually affect someone negatively. It's not really about rich people too. It's about influencers with considerable following lying to sell a product. It's unethical (and at times illegal).

I study Chemistry and attending Pharmacy school and we learn how to mix and formulate the products. I love to read and see the ingredients of any products. I always tell people who’s worried about cosmetic ingredients too much like this is bad! and that’s bad.. Oh girl please! Drinking alcohol and smoking are way more dangerous than putting 0.1g of cosmetic products approved by FDA. Some skincare influencers who talk about ingredients with lack of Scientific knowledge should not educate people. La Mer is very expensive and overpriced. However, they put one of the highest quality of ingredients with very expensive laboratory to create the products in order to have best quality. Think like a Chanel bag is expensive but why people are buying it? While you can buy a $50 in Amazon’s purse instead of a $5000 at Chanel’s ;)

There is a kelp gel moisturiser that is made in Northern Ireland that you can mix up with Nivea Q10 and make Creme de La Mer. Used to use this on my child's eczema and it worked a treat.

Ohhh, korean skincare soooooooo powerful and really cheap. Thats the only products i use. 100% recommended.

The first time I heard about this brand, as a French person, I thought that this was probably BS brand that tries to sound French. La Mer sounds so weird, (as weird as calling a brand "The Sea".) La mer also sounds like "La merde", pronounce the same with a "D" sound at the end, which literally means, the SHIT/POOP! No French would call a brand like this because of the risk of play on words...

my daughter was having the worst episode of eczema and bacteria infection outbreak and i tried every single cream on earth including those super expensive tubes from doctors and nothing works. her face got so sensitive and i couldnt even see a patch of 'proper' skin left on her face, she was covered in cracks and rashes its so painful to see. in the end i tried la mer on her face and in few hours her skin looks less angry, so i continued putting it on her face for the next few days it actually cleared her skin out.. i was amazed!! By the way she's only 2 years old so initially i didnt think of using la mer on her.

First of all, a jar of La Mer can last for up to nine months. Secondly, my personal experience is that it works exceptionally well. I’ve used La Mer since the 70s and my skin looks amazing. People think I am 20 years younger than I am. Are used to apply it to my children’s sunburn skin and it soothed the pain immediately. It’s very expensive but it does work. I usually get a jar as a Christmas present from my husband and I’m always thrilled.

I’m fully aware of the ingredients list. I stay away from a lot of those ingredients in my skincare. But no matter how much I try to deny it, the la Mer foundation is the absolute best foundation I have ever used. Nothing makes my skin look as good as that does. I don’t use the la Mer skincare, and have no intention to, but once I was given a sample of the foundation... I haven’t looked back. People try to shame me all the time for liking it. They call me stupid, or blind, or whatever else. Many of these people who ridicule me for loving it, have never even tried it for themselves.

Years ago, before Dr Drey and before I “turned and learned”, I would spend hundreds of dollars on the little green jar eye cream. Jars and jars of it. It irritated my eyes....snd I thought it was just the product working! That’s why my eyes hurt snd my skin was red, bf I figured the miracle broth was doing it’s thing. I was a fool. I will say though, it felt nice to add this really fancy thing to my skin care regimen. You, Hyram and Dr Drey changed my life through your videos. I found some amazing products that have completely changed my skin. And given me more confidence to look people in the eye when I speak to them. So thank you for all your hard work. You’ve helped changed my skin and given me more confidence in my life.

Preservatives can be added to products including fermented ingredients, they are just added in smaller amount, as the ferments also preserve. I love La Mers way of making a multiuse product that you can use all over your skin with good results. It's worth trying you know. Not so expensive in the end as one product is used in miniscule amounts and replaces also eye, night and body cream. Tested and loved by moi. ✌🏼🤗

I hate when people think that just because skincare products are expensive that they are better all the time. (Not talking abt this product, I haven’t finished the video yet)

You're absolutely right I mostly use Cerave and Korean products and I don't have any product that cost more than 15$ And let me tell you, everyone asks me how my skin is so clear No it's not genetics because I used to have really shitty skin I've calculated all my products and how long they last me and I pay 12$ every month for a whole skincare routine I know alot of girls who spend like 50$ every month and their skin doesn't even look ok

@@emi6416 A tip: wait on sales to get korean products But if you cannot wait You can get some simple products Like the cerave lotion that has more than 400ml lasts me for a year and it costs 12$ La roche posay cleanser that has 400ml also lasts me for a year and costs the same Divide that into 12 months Every month I pay 2$ for a moisturizer and a cleanser Add a good sunscreen Korean ones cost around 10-13$ and last your for 2-3 months (btw I use one gram of sunscreen everyday so I'm not trying to make it last or whatever) Divide that and it'll be around 4$ every month Add treatments: For example the niacinimaide serum from the ordinary is the bomb and it costs 6$ It's going to last you for 2-2,5 months (every morning use it once) This is around 2,5$ You can add an exfoliant for example the Paula's Choice bha 2%, which is very expensive but it's so stromg that you don't need more than 1-2 times a week It's going to last you around 6 months Divide 30$ into 6 months Your monthly payment would be 13,5$ every month and you have a very good skincare routine I have done this for the last 2 years and now I'm updating to korean skincare because it's the BEST But, I wait on sales For example Stylevana had a 70% off of their make prem sunscreens which has 200ml!! They also had alot of sales so I bought alot of things and I only paid 25$ (I bought like really alot of things)

My skin has been flawless for the past year..... since I started singing every day to my tin of Nivea (the German formulation, of course... so I sing in German)

I’ve use dozens of different facial creams, both cheap and expensive ones, almost all the common brands you can think of, even La Pairie ($500+), I stopped exploring until I tried La Mer. I don’t know if it’s worth the price but it feels really good on the face! I’m dying to find a cheaper substitute.

Because of associated glamour. They think if they use the same stuff, they will somehow glean a fraction of the celeb's beauty and glamour, or at least earn bragging points. It's just how humans tend to be psychologically, there is a great tendency to magical thinking. It is hilarious that people even think celebs have much better skin than normal people, often they DON'T. But pro MUAs, amazing lighting and professional image altering are involved with all of the interaction we have with them, unless we actually run into them IRL, which few of us will ever do.

@@Ke1ko7 in Portugal. It's really common to go to the esthetician. Not so much derms so they always are available and aren't as expensive as in other places. Also you can get tretinoin at the counter, most pharmacist don't care, they tell you don't go in the sun and that's it.

Our La Mer brand trainer also told us that after his accident he noticed that the fisherman by the sea in the sun always had thick rough skin everywhere except their hands because always in the water - and that’s why he started studying the kelp properties. I love how the embellished details differ from brand trainers themselves 😂

I’ve always wondered!! My aunt used to buy it and give me and my sister facials with it - mega lucky - skincare is such a lovely way to bond. It smells AMAZING. Needless to say I have not had a La Mer pamper session as a frugal adult 🤣

Back in 2007 in Selfridges in London doing the rounds of the beauty hall as I'm now on maternity leave, pregnant and bored. I have to admit that I was using Creme de la Mer, BUT and BIG BUT, my cousin was working for MAC at the time and she got a 65% discount off all Lauder companies' products so the £965, the huge jar only cost £340. And it had a two year life from opening and it really did last the whole two years and I was liberal with it too. So it was working out at what £14 per month. And I could use it as an eye cream. So I felt that for how liberally I used it and basically an all in one solution it works out at good value. And those who work on the La Mer stands are expected to use all of their products and buy them at the discounted price too, not free!!! But back to Selfridges and the La Prarie stand. I'm doing the rounds to get the free samples as we've all done and I have an ingredient issue. I'm allergic to cucumbers. Deathly allergic, even as a skincare ingredient, it will cause my skin to blister. And I tell each person at each stand this and make it very clear. They were the stand that didn't bother reading their ingredients and weren't hot on letting me read them as I've been studying cosmetic chemistry for about 20 years as self interest with my autism so know when I'm being sold a pup but also the Latin name for what I'm allergic to etc... And the girl is about to swatch some stuff on my hand and the other older lady comes screaming over going NOOOOOOOOO it has cucumber on it as it touches the back of my hand and my skin starts to hive up. Got a free 60ml of La Mer out of the managers so that I'd not sue because she clearly hadn't read the ingredients after I'd been incredibly specific and didn't understand the ingredients of the products she was hocking to people. This actually drove me to start creating my own serums as I could order the chemicals like HA and Vitamin C and make fresh serums for people basically mixing rose water and glycerin with the targeted ingredients. And as Vitamin C was totally unstable at this point you'd get only a month's supply. My child went to nursery on a local inner city estate behind Kings Cross and I sold to the mums there. It cost me £3 to make including the bottles so I sold it to them for a £5 and the rich people in our building happily paid £20 and thought they were getting a bargain!

La Mer products's price tags are definitely high but every brand has their own clientele. When you buy luxury products for any reason (you have money, you want to show off or whatever), you know for a fact you pay mostly for the marketing/the brand name. If the brands are expensive and the products are bad, they wouldn't have survived for that long. I used La Mer soft cream and that was the only moisturizer that calmed my redness/irritation from tretinoin instantly

Same for me. I use the original LM cream and it’s the only thing that will fix my irritated skin barrier from tret use. I also love the oil. My skin is always glowing the next morning when I use them. Also I don’t know why she says it’s $500, I think a small jar is $90.

Vaseline is the best thing after tretinoin. Pure Shea butter is good too. Any thick occlusive moisturizer will work but Vaseline is the best occlusive

I use their range and it has worked wonders on my skin, I'm 34 with kids... My hair might be turning gray and falling out, but my face has zero wrinkles, scars and pimples. I use their original cream, intense eye balm, despite what people say about eye creams, I like their texture and smell.., I have the face mist which is perfect for summer, their lip balm and rejuvenating serum. I have a small jar of the oil which I mix with my moisturiser during winter. Their concentrate is good for my random dry patches I get during hay fever seasons. It is expensive no doubt but it does what I need it to do.

La Mer was scientically created by a physicist after he burned his face. I was gifted a jar of Le Mer (boyfriend at the time wanted to be impressive). I have dry skin and with all the hype about Le Mer (this was when Max Huber was alive and well and marketing it like crazy), I expected results. Nope, my $20 moisturizer was better. He was definitely a marketing genius for sure!

I totally relate to LaMer 's philosophy. When I apply Peptides, I play Hard Rock music to give them that extra power punch, the antioxidants prefer sexy salsa music and dimmed red lights. I want to incorporate The Ordinary's 30% AHA & 2% BHA and here s my problem, should I play disco music with flashy lights ( maybe this is too much and the acids will freak out ? Or classical music so the acids remain relaxed and wont irritate my skin ? ) Anyone suggestions plzzzzz

I got into La Mer after trying all $ ranges of moisturizers for years for my sensitive skin and the soft cream is the best thing I have ever tried, I do see skin healing is faster, it got rid of rosacea and dermatitis and skin feels actually so hydrated. I understand the price objections but I feel its like pointing out how all of the ingredients of a dish in a fancy restaurant are actually so cheap?. Despite the weird "magical" treatment, it IS a great product that has been able to give me what many others haven't. And people keep coming back because it works. I honestly recommend you trying it :)

Unpopular opinion - I feel I’ve tried everything on the drugstore and high end shelves and.. I LOVE LA MER! The good ingredients are listed mostly first and if you ask any time users there’s a reason they are ‘long term users!’ Nothing will give your bare skin that pearly clear glow la mer gives 🥰

This is a great point. As someone in the industry, I can tell you that it takes skin a full month (at least) to turn over new cells. Also it's a moisturizer, so it's only supposed to do 2 things: hydrate and calm (the seaweed). They only added the anti aging claims wt Estee, who has an even more expensive serum.

My favourite moisturizer is from a small brand called Berrichi. It has furcellaria and astaxanthin in it (both derived from seaweed) and is like 98% natural. Has no fragrance in it either. I have sensitive, rosacea prone skin and my skin LOVES it. I have never tried la mer, but bases on ingredients and even packaging my 35€ cream seems a lot more luxurious lol

I would love to see a video where you test out La Mer products for a week or two. I mean I have no idea if they do anything but it'll be entertaining to see you use them 😂. Thanks for the sk-information!

It's so annoying! Kylie Jenner also uses it before her makeup, I work in LA and a lot of the makeup artists use La Mer as a base. I swear they all think that just because it's expensive it is doing something incredible. If you say anything negative about it people get sooooo offended too. The fragrance in it is atrocious as well.

I know their staple Creme de La Mer cream isn’t anything special/overpriced, but I can’t say that if I had the money I wouldn’t want to buy it out of curiosity.

I'm completely agree with everything in this video, but on the other hand, all that being said, there's a fact. La crème de La Mer, it really WORKS. I mean, everyone else who tried it will tell you the same thing, with this cream your skin is immediately beautiful, there's absolutely no other cream to give such results. La Prairie is even much more expensive, and it's pure BS, it doesn't work. La Mer, it works. What's the mystery, I don't know. But there's something.

I have worked for both La Mer and La Prairie and used both as part of my uniform 'Look'. La Prairie changed the look and feel of my skin instantly and it even improved over time. La Mer took much longer, 6 months for me to see any improvement, mainly minimised pores. I cannot afford to buy these products now that I don't have access to staff discount and so am getting equivalent results using a mixture of Inkey List, The Ordinary and Ole Henrikse🥰

Read the comments, plenty of people commented that they also used this an didn't like at all and went back to the product they used before.

I have had problematic skin my whole life. I was to the point where I hated looking at myself in mirrors up close and I refused to do my makeup in brightly lit rooms. I would never, ever go to have a makeover in a department store and forget going to any event in bright daylight or florescent lighting. I was also suffering from adult acne, uneven skin tones, large pores, and any other skin condition you can think of. I just had horrible skin. I decided to try La Mer. My skin has never been more beautiful. Sometimes, I actually refuse to put on face makeup because I don't want to ruin the beautiful, natural, even glow my skin now has. I also have NO wrinkles. Like none. I just turned 40 and no one believes I'm 40. I get told all the time and that people think I'm still in my late 20s. I don't know if the skin gods finally took pity on me or if LA Mer is actually a miracle brand but I will never use anything else again. You couldn't pay me to change my mind. No amount would be worth the confidence I feel now in my skin and the fact that I can look at myself in a mirror and not want to cry. I can actually look people in the eye and not feel embarrassed because I know they are looking at my face.

I live in a NYC apartment. My tap water should probably be magic broth.

I think the right recipe went to the grave. I don’t buy into anything they sell. I tried a sample, broke out. Yeah, totally revolutionary.

I love Creme de LaMer, but not for regular skincare. It helped with my psoriasis/ exzema. Non other creams or doctors could help with some patches of psiorasis which were really bad. A friend of mine have me a tiny sample. And as it is nothing for my oily skin, I put it on my elbows and ankles. It took about two weeks and psiorasis/ exzema was gone. Yes it is overpriced, but it helped me with those issues

The phrase “more money than sense” comes to mind.

I’m an aesthetician and make up artist and have been for over 20 years. I totally respect your opinion and I also understand your skepticism. I get sick of so many products being hyped up to only be average. I’ve actually been using the majority of the La Mer line for at least a few years. It actually works really well for me and I do consider it my holy grail of products. I’m in my 40’s and people constantly think I’m in my 20’s or 30’s. People constantly compliment my skin and ask me what my secret is. I have tried other things over the years including dupes but I always come back to La Mer because it works best for me. My mom is using it now too. I buy it when Sephora or other stores are doing their 20% off sale in a state with no sales tax. The average sized serum and moisturizer last me anywhere from 9 months to over a year. Agreed that a lot of the science is bs but for me the proof is in the pudding! If it works then that’s all I need. I’m not a billionaire but I honestly think it’s worth it for me. I also hate Lauder. Please don’t send me hate I’m just adding my two cents. You’re right celebrities get everything for free! I’ve worked with some 🙄 lol. You should do a video about Christian Leboutin, some of the most expensive shoes in the world. They are also some of the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever tried and they literally fall apart after wearing them a few times.

Yes agree, La Mer literally has saved my skin. I always have acne and my skin is so dull. But after using La Mer my skin now is clear up and so bright. I know this old woman whose skin is so good, she told me its because shes been using La Mer for the past 10 yrs.

Can I ask which products you use in the la mer line. I am thinking about trying it as you can buy $95 size but not sure whether to get the original creme de la mer or the soft cream. I heard that the original might be better as this is the one that Max Huber worked on?

So much hate but I actually enjoy using their products. It’s hydrating without being greasy and it really does wonders for dry patches. Sure you don’t need this, it should prob be cheaper but it does deliver results. I really love the treatment lotion, oil and the soft / gel cream. Original is a bit annoying to put on. My mum scalded her finger and I gave her some of the concentrate to apply on the burn and it healed the next day, no blisters just residue inflammation.

A $500 moisturizer better get rid of all imperfections on my skin and make my skin look ten years younger.

Please expose LA Prairie and the expensive Growth Factors like skinmedica

I was gifted a jar of La Mer 6 or 7 years ago - my sister-in-law worked for Estee Lauder at the time and she got a couple jars in her company Christmas package. She has sensitive skin that doesn't tolerate the stuff, so she gave it to me. I really loved it and at the time I had not yet learned to properly moisturize my skin, so this stuff helped a lot and literally took like 5 years off my face in about a month and a half of using it. No way I could afford to buy more, so I looked for less expensive creams that were richly moisturizing; I ended up using L'Occitane's shea face cream up until last year. These days it's too greasy for my skin; now I've discovered CeraVe and I LOVE that shit. It does everything I need. So I went from a €180 moisturizer, to a €30 one, to one that costs about €15 for a massive tub that I probably won't be able to use up before it gets too old. Go figure. I also started using a lot of The Ordinary last year, and good God, my skin looks and feels amazing now. Nobody believes I'm 40.

@@archiegaming525 i think it's just called moisturizing creme, I'd have to check. It's not the face-specific one, just the standard one you can use all over.

You can actually get the fermented seakelp ingredient in a lot of other cheaper (especially Korean brands') products. And Nivea Cream has a very similar ingredient list and texture (both break people out like nothing else). So for a fraction of the price, mix Missha Time Revolution Night Repair Ampoule and Nivea cream. (I just use the ampoule.)

I just wanted to add to the conversation that La Mer and other brands like it that make false, extravagant claims don't just manipulate rich people, but also people with skin conditions who are desperate to have good skin. I have struggled with severe eczema for most of my life and I was tempted to buy La Mer because of the false claims that it can miraculously heal burns, wounds, etc. and the extremely high price point, which is not at all something I can afford made me believe that it must be worth it. I never ended up buying it, but felt like I was missing out. Thanks for all you do Cassandra. ❤️

If you want to try it they sell a smaller size now which is like $90 and some people say they have had amazing results. Also you only need a tiny amount so it lasts a long time.

For anyone on a budget, the best bet is Sunscreen + Tretinoin + a drugstore moisturizer like CeraVe + a gentle face wash like Cetaphil or Vanicream. For any other active, there is The Ordinary. I don't understand why people would spend their entire paychecks on something like La Mer. It's astonishing.

As a Canadian I have to say that was the most interesting pronunciation of “Petroleum jelly” I’ve ever heard. Love the video tho.

I purchased this in my 40's. I started to suffer from hormonal acne and I was desperate. This was the WORST product I had ever used. It made my skin scream! After a month of using it and going through breakout hell I went to return this. Well, the salespeople (yes, they hare salespeople) are SO sweet and nice when you are buying but become evil bit*#es when you try and take something back. Bottom line,,, she refused the return, I asked for the manager of the Fancy store and I lost my S*%T on them all. In the end I got my money back and have never shopped there again. La Mer is crap. It will activate every issue that you have. I'm sure it's great for those with blemish free skin...but if you have any issues. Just don't do it. Save your money!

I believe each one was .12oz Definitely got a few uses out of each :-) For free samples they were generous size. I'd never pay $20 for that amount though. No samples are a few oounces lol... many products come in 1oz containers 😩

How about ‘La Prairie’ products? They are Also expensive 😬

Going to throw a spanner in.. . But to this day, the La Mer range is the best skincare I've ever used. I can't afford it anymore, but when I worked for Estee, I trialed it, and bought it with my staff discount. I had incredible results... I still look for dupes & nothing compares. Whatever is in that broth - I want it.

I think they sell a smaller size now that costs about $90 and I've been told you only have to use a tiny amount so it lasts. Was it the original creme de last mer you used or the soft cream. I've been told the original would be the better one to get as that is the one that Max Huber worked on.

I’ve always wanted to write a book fact checking all the origin stories of these brands!! It’s so crazy how good marketing can really take an unknown product to “cult status.” Ive worked in retail beauty for a decade and still triggered when I hear “miracle broth” 😂

This breaks me out and literally I have used amazing products way cheaper. $90 for a moisturizer is a lot but $500 is ridiculous. The concentrate is really amazing but I’d never buy it!

My ex works for NASA. He had no skincare routine lol. My mom's an estitichian and I'm a semi truck driver. Just amused because you basically named everyone in my life's jobs

The truth is that everyone is entitled to buy whatever they want and they can afford. So let’s stop being haters. And demonise ppl who can afford the products. Some of them work their ass off for the money. Less judgment would benefit everyone!

And $500 is for a very large size - there are two or three smaller sizes; so this is less than honest in its characterization.

La Mer products are amazing. Especially if you have had or have problematic skin

I purchased it once like 10years ago and I remember waiting to see miracles happening with my skin until it finished and I was left wondering if I was scammed 😆 was kinda greasy too 🤔

I would love to hear what’s up with Tatcha, I’m very interested in their origins

Confirmed ingredients even worse than I thought. Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream Plumping & Hydrating Moisturizer ingredients include: Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Sodium Acrylate/Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Dimethylacrylamide Crosspolymer. Interesting. If you just look to their marketing they'd have you believe its all gold flakes and pearl dust 🙄 🤐

When brands charge a lot for skincare it’s usually 1 of 3 things: your paying for the packaging, your paying for the brand name or your paying for quality ingredients and formulas that cost more. Usually 1 and 2 are the correct answer and La mer is a perfect example of that. People that aren’t educated about skincare will throw their money at these brands but when you have basic skincare knowledge, these brands won’t get your money.
