I think Kuwabara's friendship with Kurama is incredibly underrated. The first time we see them have a major interaction, it's playing a cruel joke on Yusuke after the Saint Beast arc. Kurama is the one who trains Kuwabara for the Dark Tournament, pushing him in a way that Hiei couldn't (whether it was because Hiei underestimates Kuwabara or because he doesn't want to hurt him is open to interpretation). Later, in the Three Kings Saga, Kuwabara is the only member of the team present for Shiori (Kurama's mom)'s wedding, and Kurama gives him regular updates regarding Demon World. Kurama is also the one to feel Kuwabara's presence during Yusuke's fight with Yomi (or at the very least, Kuwabara rubbed off on him to the extent that Kurama could picture what he'd say). There's something to be said that they're the most sociable members of Team Urameshi, but I think they also get along because Kuwabara's code of honor, and the familial love he displays for his friends, are in direct contrast with the ruthless, cutthroat tactics of Yoko Kurama. I'd argue that aside from his mother, Kuwabara is the only character in the show who enables Kurama to feel human.

Kuwabara was the one shown beside Kurama during his mother's wedding. I liked that small touch that showed how close they became as friends. Kurama genuinely likes Kuwabara because he is so honest about his humanity, and so proud of it.

I think kuwabara says that in response in the moment to seaman but he doesn't mean he wants to kill seaman and is not doing so cause it's not about what he wants...he legit doesn't want to kill him for info and cause he's just that nice and thinks he deserves a second chance the way he tried to help yusuke by challenging him to fights to get him to come out his loaner shell....kuwa gets rewarded power for the good person he is not cause he's just a mc

The thing about Kuwabara is that he is the heart of the group. He provides the reminder that yes, these characters literally go toe-to-toe with demons and save the world during weekends but they're still punks finding their place in the world. Without him, a significant chunk of the story feels lacking. There's so many comic relief characters in anime (characters like Usopp in One Piece) but Kuwabara is special because he feels so genuine. He even develops by the end and finds out what he truly wants for himself, gives up personal glory for responsibility and making a man of himself in the real world. What a character.

A librarian recommended YuYu Hakusho, after I asked her if there are any other anime similar to Hunter x Hunter, the first anime which I have ever watched and enjoyed. Also, it is good that you like One Piece. A friend recommended me One Piece in 2022 along with HxH back in November 2021. Once finished with a few seasons of My Hero Academia, that classic 1990s show of YuYu Hakusho will be on my screen in 2024. :) Kuwabara already seems to be a cool guy, and his hair is epic bro/sis. Man, the New Year is gonna be awesome. Anyways, merry late Christmas/holidays and happy New Year.

This is a pleasant surprise, I didn’t expect to see a video about this classic today.

Right, Kato is the goat for this one. I wish more people would show this level of appreciation. I love yu yu hakusho with all my heart and Kazuma Kuwabara is my all time favorite character from this series.

Kuwabara Is the friend we all need. but not the one we deserve.

To add to Hiei's relationship with Kuwabara there are plenty of moments where Hiei unintentionally shows how much he cares/respects Kuwabara. During the Dark Tournament, against Risho, Hiei is about to escape the enchantress' spell only for Kuwabara to step in and fight Risho honourably. If Hiei really did believe Kuwabara was weak or worthless, he'd have paid no mind to his actions and would simply break out anyway. But Hiei, at very least respected Kuwabara enough to let him try or, perhaps, did believe he could win. Then, when Toguro chooses to kill Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei have a small banter where Kurama jokes about running away, only for Hiei to say "Don't be simple. I'll take Toguro alone if I must." Again, all of this in the name of protecting Kuwabara.

i agree, alot of people dont really understand their dynamic,they love each other alot more than most people realize, kuwabara respects hiei and hiei respects kuwabara, they care about each other. in the manga whenever push comes to shove they are there for each other, actions speak louder than words. they dont rib each other in the manga or the japanese sub as much.

@@RekoBrowner this. in the manga hiei never said he hated kuwabara and in the saint beast ark, he said kuwabara did well, in ear shot of everyone. They feel alot more like friends and hiei feels less like a asshole.

The author is a masterpiece. He sharpened this character type to make his masterpiece Leorio.

Kazuma Kuwabara is one of the best written characters in Yu Yu Hakusho and in anime. His code of what it means to be a man and unwavering loyalty made it easy for me to relate to him. Kuwabara’s speech at Yusuke’s wake was what peaked me into the series when I started watching and I became hooked. However, I would have to say that Kuwabara’s best moment was when he was desperately trying to save Yusuke from death at the hands of Sensui. Chris Sabat’s voice acting performance really captured a person pouring out his entire soul to save his best friend. It is a damn shame that Togashi wrote out Kuwabara in the 3 King’s Arc, though to be fair that entire Arc was basically wasted potential

Sabat is famous for voicing vegeta but people really ignore his best voicing of kuwabara... This voicing fits FAR better to the character than vegeta's... Rough ugly street fighter voice Unlike vegeta who just keeps screaming and crying about reaching the next power level... Sabat deserved much better than that shitshow dbz

The live action show had plenty of issues, but I think they did well with Kuwabara. His scene at the hospital with his injured gang members was great. They were fine at that point, but he still feels guilty that he let it happen and wasn't strong enough to keep them safe. It was done really well. And his training with Genkai to break the boulder with a wooden stick was great. Getting an impossible task and throwing yourself behind it, repeatedly failing and getting yourself hurt but continuing anyway until you do it. That's my boy Kuwabara.

Kuwabara is my comfort character. His big heart just warms my soul

There is a reason Genkai and Tuguro chose Kuwabara to sacrifice (intstead of Kaiko, or Boton), Kuzuma waa willing to bitw the bullet and give up his life to push his friend to the next level and save everyone.

I always wished they he got done more fights, I was really surprised he didn't compete in the demon tournament, that whole thing felt rushed, but he has a sword that can cut through dimensions that's nothing to shake a stick at, if he trained more he would be insanely powerful

At least it's confirmed that Kuwabara ascends to upper S Class at the end of the manga. At the end of the series he is the strongest human alive. Definitely nothing to scoff at. With proper training and mastery of swordsmanship, Kuwabara would be a big problem.

Damn there’s a tear in my eye right now from the nostalgia. Ahh oh how I wish I could watch this show as a kid again and get the same care free group of friends together and just enjoy a great anime like Yu yu hakusho

Kuwabara is _relatable_ anyone can be kuwabara, and in all the insanity we always need that one that sane and keep the show together. Like shinpachi gintama, he's the heart of the show the one that we can relate to as the majority of people will be categorized as that sane person.

Kuwabara is one of, if not, the best character across all media.

I despise how little they tried to keep Kuwabara relevant into the end of the series. Kuwabara could've been the next Spirit Detective even if he didn't get much work during the times of peace, his swordsmanship didn't become more then swinging his weapon like a baseball bat despite having weapon experts in his circle. He was my favorite character and I'm mad they didn't do more with him

Well to be fair the only reason why yu yu hakusho ended the way it did is due the magaka getting sick and besides at least yu yu hakusho actually has an ending Hunter x Hunter hasn't even finished yet

I like to think of an alternate world where Yusuke did not die trying to save the boy, the boy lives with fewer bruises and it's Kuwabara that would have been the detective for the spirit world and Earth. Yusuke would eventually rise to be a villain without the events that played in our actual timeline and Kuwabara may have died fighting him, or maybe overcome him after inheriting the spirit sword and gun from Genkai.

Right, he should of been made way more proficient after training with hiei and kurama. Even if hiei didn't want to hurt kuwabara or thought he was weak. He could've shown him how to use a sword and passed on his technique.

I forget the exact story beats, but i remember wanting the secret fighter in the last arc to be kuwabara. Especially when you consider theres a point where yusuke questions whether he should consider himself human or not, def thought it would make sense to have kuwabara beat some sense into him and remind him of his humanity as the final fight even if he had to lose.

Kuwabara is a man like a Mulberry is a tree. His chivalry has stuck with me even all these years later.

I have a theory that Kuwabara's psychic ability let him know how alone Yusuke was, even if it was a subconscious level. Kuwabara, a guy that is surrounded by friends might subconsciously feel for a person like this. Because Yusuke and Kuwabara have a lot in common too, except that Yusuke is troubled (especially at the start of the series and before the series starts). So he found Yusuke and started a rivalry with him thinking that it might be for "winning against Yusuke one day" alone (but it never was really about that and more about being friends with Yusuke) Like I get that they like to fight but noone would let themselves be beat 100 times for just getting strong alone. Besides, if it was the actual will for fighting alone, he would've fought Yusuke more ruthlessly, and not cared about Yusuke learning his name.

Mind you, Kuwabara is and always has been my favorite character. I think the fact that it was rushed hindered it the most. Secondly, it lacks both the blood pumping excitement of the Dark Tournament, and the philosophical, ponderous nature of Chapter Black. It's beat by other arcs of the series in every which way.

Just recently discovered this channel with the latest 2 videos and I like what I’ve seen so far. If I had one negative, it’d be for whoever did the v.o. for this vid to slow down or add a bit more inflection to what they’re saying. The script was well written and you did a great analysis on Kuwabara’s character. It’s just, you go by it so fast, it becomes hard to really take in what you’re saying before you move on. Take your time and let the message you’re trying to send resonate before going to your next point. Anyway, I like the channel and I’ll be sure to watch more vids from y’all in the future!

Kuwabara is my favorite character of the series. It was a shame he wasn't in the last arc of the series. He could have fought a demon who acted as the enforcer for the Three Kings. Win or lose, Kuwabara would have put on one hell of a fight, cementing his role as one of the most powerful non-demon fighter in the series.

I read that Hiei is the most popular character in a poll amongst Japanese fans, but to me, when I watch the show, I kind of sleep through Yusuke's typical shonen force of will beats all trope and find myself just enjoying every single scene Kuwabara is in because he seems like an actual fleshed-out person while Yusuke is an archetype.

He's my favorite of the main characters, he is the heart of the group, he won 2 of the most important matches in the Dark Tournament and also possesed the strongest ability in the manga being able to slice through dimensions against Sensui, he also matured the most and fastest despite being the youngest. His strength and his resolve are closely related, the higher the stakes and the higher the level of danger/intensity, the more he shines and rises to the occasion.they're all great and each brought something different and important to the table.
