David Orsntein is incorrect. Goal Line technology was around before VAR. It's linked to the refs watch which buzzes when the ball crosses the line. He's for some reason scaremongering here.

Everyone is missing the point. I hate VAR with a passion, but it's not because of any errors. It destroys the match going experience, people are really considering giving up their season tickets because VAR has literally attacked the very essence of the game - spontaneous joy, a quick look at the linesman, then absolute limbs. This is what TV fans are missing, it goes right to reason why the 'product' has been successful.

If it was put to a fan or player vote then VAR would go but there is no reason why the goal line and offside technology cannot be used WITHOUT the VAR analysis at Shockley park. Why should using or not using VAR affect the clubs in europe? Are you saying that teams play differently if there is VAR? The premier leagues stats assumes that all the panels analysis of PGMOL is valid. I’m sorry but in many cases they have defended the indefensible and that means that the % is way lower than 96% FANS OF ALL CLUBS- LOBBY YOUR CLUB TO VOTE AGAINST VAR! It’s good in theory, but we’ve all see Dermot Gallagher on Skysports and his mates in VAR would be no different. They don’t feel they have to explain anything to us fans. They make the decision and we just have to accept it. How many times this season alone have we seen a penalty in one game then no penalty for the exact same thing? Only for Gallagher to tell us on Monday that “it’s all subjective”

Why is no one addressing the elephant in the room? If you get rid of "official" VAR, you're left with "unofficial" VAR: Broadcasters will replay every close or questionable action from various angles, use slow motion and stop motion, and pundits will still rail about the injustice of all of those missed calls. Except without VAR, the refs won't be able to rectify anything. The controversies and the supposed unfairness will still happen, and the video evidence will still be shown after the fact. But no one will be able to do anything about it but complain. Wanna get rid of VAR? Stop allowing broadcasters access to multiple slow-mo replays. It's that technology and the post-match post-mortems that made VAR a necessary evil. Scrapping it won't do anything but make it worse for everyone. Wanna ref it in real time only? Broadcast it in real time only, just like the viewers are experiencing it at the match.

The premier league isn't exactly a spectacle if the three clubs that get promoted go straight back down and the same team wins it every year. This season isn't even over and you already know city are going to win next year. I think VAR should go, its just not fit for purpose at this moment in time, and likely isnt going to improve greatly for another 2/3 years at least in the premier league. Not only that but the longer delays and extra minutes might have a link to the amount of injuries across the league.

With the money that football moves today, any help that reduces the risk of wrong refereeing decisions should be welcomed. There will always be criticism from those who feel harmed if the VAR decisions are not favorable to their interests. But, if these decisions are based on videos, they are impossible to refute. What these "affected" clubs have to do is accept these decisions and reinforce the lines of play where the rival has found errors, so that they do not occur again, and not "cry" like children when they throw a tantrum so that they take heed.

VAR is the best thing to come into football since its inception, I can't believe that some fans and clubs want to go back to the idea that no technology is used and everything is decided by the on field referee and the linesman. VAR is not the problem is the human element behind it, the video evidence is there its just the bad decisions made by the individuals that's the problem. These fans want to go back to a system where you could leave the match knowing that the referee and linesman made a mistake and a goal was given, or not given, an offside that was or wasn't , a penalty that was or wasn't given, a bad tackle or an off the ball the incident or plain cheating and diving. What will happen the likes of SKY or TNT will be showing video evidence immediately and all the fans in the ground will see it on there phones, fans at home or in the pub will be watching and will spend the game and after knowing they lost because of incorrect decisions which with VAR it would have been seen. All this nonsense about its taking passion and enjoyment out of the game, trust me all those fans and clubs that want it banned, if your club loses a match or misses out on the title by a point, or the top 4, or getting relegated by a point knowing its because of bad decisions made by the officials on the pitch, they will be the first to complain and beg for VAR to come back, guaranteed. The referees and linesman will encounter more abuse and at some point referees will become very short on numbers as no one wants to be put in the position, not to mention some idiot will probably assault an official and that will cause matches to be played behind closed doors.

It won't get banned but every club will lay into how bad it performed this season and rightly so. Missed offsides, studs to the chest in a title decider, penalties every week being missed, dives all over the place. PGMOL are an absolute shambles. I can't see the bottom 10 voting to give more dodgy referees the ability to brown nose the big 6 because they want to bring back goal celebrations... ? at least now we can point out there is no excuse, they have replays and cameras and that - they surely can't vote to scrap VAR and give every ref the "whoops" excuse every week ... that's mad.

Darwin nunez whose paid millions to make split second decisions has less than 20% chance conversion rate but no grace for Micheal Oliver with an 82% accuracy in split second decisions gets more hate

VAR perfection is limited by the quality of those that use it. The issue is the human side because the video system doesn't make the decisions, the refs do

Anyone who endorses the use of VAR is not a football fan or has been a football fan for about 5 years. The loss of enjoyment from celebrating goals, the 5 min stoppages, freeze framing on minor issues are not worth it. Especially when it gets decisions wrong. People will accept human error now that they've seen the alternative.

yeah there is nothing to celebrate as you have to wait to see the replay if a player's toe was not offside, which is not even visible on replays

Sky, you seem like you're pandering to the PGMOL and the Premier League in their decisions, though they are often incorrect. Goal line technology was before VAR. Did you start watching the game in 2020? Did you hit your head or something? The problem with VAR is the people running it. The referees in the Premier League are the worst in the game. VAR works more efficiently in other leagues because the referees running it know how to call an unbiased game. Wolves are absolutely correct on goals. As a fan, when somebody scores, I can cheer or sulk because I am like will it be a goal or not? It takes away from the game. The game is being reffed twice. This leads to a ridiculous amount of extra time at the end. If we had better people, who knew the game, running it, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

It can go back. Stop this 'can't' talk. VAR is awful and so are the incompetent referees. The refs are good enough and they can't improve overnight. So get rid of VAR and have the joy back in football
