The House of the Dead, Sega's light gun series, turns 27 today! To celebrate, here's a high-scoring, no death playthrough of the arcade version. Using the Model 2 emulator with a GUN4IR light gun.
House of the Dead is a very important franchise to me; it got me into arcades. Shout-outs to Sega for whipping up rail shooting horror since 1996!
To score well in this game: just shoot enemies in the head, which also kills them quickly. Collect bonus items, save researchers, and take high-scoring routes. This run takes the "best" routes, which have more enemies and thus more score.
You can score bonus points by headshotting two of the bosses, Hangedman (bat guy) and Hermit (spider). Their movements -- particularly Hermit's -- are quite random, which can affect score.

I highly recommend The House of the Dead's arcade version -- either find a cabinet or use the Model 2 emulator. The home ports were graphically downgraded, and the "remake" is quite unpolished and not worth playing, in my opinion.
I'm fortunate that I have access to some local House of the Dead cabinets, and in the future I hope to kickstart a light gun arcade collection by acquiring a cabinet for this game. Regardless, thanks for watching/reading this, and play more light gun games!
