VAMPIRE NIGHT (PS2) - No Continues - 93,550

Happy New Year, everyone! Closing out 2023 with a good-scoring, no continue run of Sega-Namco's 2000 light gun game Vampire Night! This was played in PCSX2 with the GUN4IR light gun.
Vampire Night is fun, but difficult due to having an aggressive "rank" system that makes the game harder the better you play. This mainly makes bosses tankier. I'm also convinced that this game has one of the hardest final bosses in the light gun genre.
Sega and Namco collaborated on this game. Unlike The House of the Dead, Vampire Night is faster and has some twists -- some bosses are fought in the middle of stages rather than at the end; and all bosses have a "cancel gauge" which must be quickly depleted by shooting their weakpoints in order for attacks to be evaded. Ever since Vampire Night, the House of the Dead series has used these mechanics too, beginning with The House of the Dead III.
My goal for this video was just to clear this game in one credit. This is currently my personal best score on Vampire Night. I would like to chase 100,000 points in the future!

All enemies have a weak point, represented by a tiny shimmer-like graphic on their bodies. This kills them quickly. However, you can actually get more points by weakening the enemy by shooting other body parts, and then finishing them off with the weak point. It's much easier said than done.
Innocents in this game are villagers infected with the vampiric Sarcoma. You need to shoot the Sarcomas off their bodies without shooting the villager, or else they'll turn into a vampire and attack you. Many villagers give you life ups. There isn't a bonus room for saving them all, however generally you should try to save as many villagers as possible.
There are also life bonuses hidden in crates (red cross items), or by getting a high-enough accuracy and enough villagers rescued upon beating a stage. Accuracy factors into score as well; the higher accuracy you have when a stage is complete, the bigger bonus you'll earn. I missed a few but saved enough throughout the game to get the life bonuses I needed.
Some branching paths exist in Stages 2, 3, and 4. These mostly involve saving or failing to save Caroline, the little girl who follows the Vampire Hunters around, or by shooting certain background objects. Compared to The House of the Dead 1 and 2, there aren't a crazy amount of paths in Vampire Night which is a bit disappointing, but at least some are present.
The rank system makes bosses require more shots to their weak points in order for their "cancel" attack guages to be depleted. Taking damage lowers the rank, much like with other light gun games that have this mechanic. The final boss is extremely hard and random and often times will require you to empty full magazines into him if you want a chance of avoiding damage.
Bosses have about a second of invincibility after each time they're damaged, so you don't want to shoot super crazy all the time, or else it'll hurt your accuracy.
