    A big part of non Hobbiton sets are green screen and matte paintings. A huge chunk of Rivendell's background is a matte painting. Minas Tirith is either a miniature model, a digital model, or a jumbled set designed to accommodate any kind of shot without seeming repetitive. Tl;dr, it would be more expensive than you think because you would have to actually build the parts that were brought in digitally.

    I never understood how people could get emotional watching things like this but as I've got older I've come to understand why a little better.. The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies get me emotional. They're masterpieces. I understand they're adaptions but I grew up with the visuals for LotR and I'm almost certain it's one of the main things that has given me my deep love for fantasy. The music, the scenery, costumes.. Absolutely everything, sounds and feels perfect and because of that I feel something different to nostalgia every time I'm reminded of these two trilogy

    @@sonicfreak04 See, that's what I don't get. Jackson came on late to the project, he admits that he winged a lot of it and that much of the production was rushed, yet he still made the decision to make three very long and bloated films instead of just one simple little character piece. It's like he wanted to give himself more problems, and to me it was pointless becasue half the stuff in these films was either just made up for the sake of it or mined from the appendixes just to fatten out the runtime. The Hobbit was a very short and very modest book which would have worked wonderfully as just a small, understated little adventure film, but they had to try and turn it into some sort of massive epic. The result is a murky narrative and some really ropy CGI effects and makeup. They're still very watchable, but 70% of the stuff in here just isn't needed.

    Peter didn't want to do this. Studio started the Hobbit independently, with another director, which backed off when he realized what he was getting into, 2 years into pre-production. Peter was supposed to be an consultant at most, but when the other guy left, he was forced to step in to save the movie. I'm amazed he was able to save it to the extent he did, but is obvious it doesn't raise to the level of LOTR.

Not to mention the cinematography would have been better and it would’ve been more up to date visually and audio wise. Saying that, I think the films still ended out amazing. +Peel David Great movies are The Lord of the Rings films. The Hobbit films are far from great. Trust me, I hate to say this, but The Hobbit really can't be considered "great". Enjoyable on a subjective level, but not "great" on an objective level. Analyze the technical aspects, so including all that has to do with the narrative, the handling of the characters and all that, and you'll find dozens of flaws. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was, and is, and will always be a true masterpiece, but The Hobbit is hardly even a shade of that.

  • @ozsfi

    @ozsfi

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@RecklessDemonX It might be possible to say that the difference between the trilogies is like between LOTR and the Hobbit. When I first read the book (in translation), it felt like a children's book, and simpler than Harry Potter. So the result would not be the same, the inspiration could not be the same. Yet the acting is great, the scenery as wonderful. Good music, the same artists, great wardrobe. The plot cannot be as interesting but there are some interesting characters. I am probably too simple to be aware of the flaws, maybe many are. When I watched the movies, I was not as enthralled, for sure, but still impressed with all the craft that went into tt. Yet I agree, not a masterpiece like LOTR.
