    Also, there's the danger of inhaling the volcanic ash on Scadrial. The books mentioned that the Lord Ruler changed the population of Scadrial to be resistant to it, but odds are a random person that lands there isn't going to have that.

    Well the only visitors confirmed during the age of ash are Elantrians, who tend to the durable side. Also the southern continents outside the final empire where we run into those worldhoppers (not called Hoid) tend to the safe during that period - and frozen wasteland afterwards

    You may want to note that if you try to worldhop to Sel, you're probably going to die before you ever GET to Sel because of its weird Cognitive Realm and the massive chaotic reservoir of Investiture that was once Devotion and Dominion. Also, if you show up to The Lord Ruler's Scadrial, you're probably fine on the koloss front, they were pretty well controlled until he died. I'd say Roshar is a bit more dangerous than you made it out to be, because of the whole gradually/not-so-gradually approaching apocalypse thing.

    3:33 Not to be that guy, but if you just randomly showed up on Scadrial before the end of the first 3 books you would 100% die. ***SPOILERS*** The book says that The Lord Ruler had to change the bodies of all of the people living on Scadrial after he messed the planet up. I'm pretty sure that Sazed changed everyone's bodies back to normal at the end of the 3rd book. So a random human could probably live in the new world. But this was a really good video! I watched a few of your other videos too & really liked them. :D

    That's totally true! However, the fact that there's a thriving economy of worldhoppers must mean it's possible to survive even without the Lord Ruler's changes. You'd probably have to eat more than normal in order to get the nutrients you need, and you'd probably end up getting sick a lot more often, but I don't think it'd be insta-death by any means. Roshar isn't that dangerous. The highstorms are mostly diminished by the unclaimed hills, and are mentioned several times to be far more powerful in the shattered plains. Alethkar, which is the easternmost country grows wheat. There are forests with good lumber. While shinovar is basically the place completely safe from highstorms, they have been able to take those plants to other places.

    Sure, that kinda sucks. But it's far less powerful, and only hits hard in certain places, and leaves mostly untouched. For two months it only hit thaylan city hard, and they were able to rebuild while it hit every 9 days.

  • @TheCosmerenaut

    @TheCosmerenaut

    4 жыл бұрын

    The highstorms hit hardest in the Unclaimed Hills, but they're still incredibly powerful all the way across the continent; that's why Shinovar is the only place that has actual soil. We can see the strength of the highstorms is still overwhelming on the other side of Roshar by looking at Edgedancer: Lift is in Yeddaw, a city in Tashikk, on the southwestern edge of the continent, but it's still bare stone, adaptive plants, and a devastating highstorm at the end of the book. Also, Alethkar doesn't grow wheat. They grow lavis, which is a type of grain cultivated in rockbuds. It's true that there are forests with good lumber, even just outside the Shattered Plains, but those are presumably similar to stumpweights and other adapted plants and not Earth-like trees. The only time we've seen an Earth-like or Shinovar plant outside of actual Shinovar is with Rysn's pot of grass, which is considered odd by virtually everyone who sees it. If there was soil or similar plants outside of Shinovar, even elsewhere in the west, this wouldn't be the case.

    Roshar ain't that bad. U will die in war only if u r in the shattered plains. Alethkar itself is quite peaceful. Of course u will be automatically treated as second class citizens if u have Darkeyes. But that's only in the vorin Nations. If u make it to the makabaki or Purelake region , u r like really safe. Even the Highstorms are weaker there. Shinovar is basically earthlike. And the shin while backward seem like hospitable folks. The shamanate is probably evil but the ordinary shin seem ok. Reshi isles , woo , sign me up. The reshi are just orgiastic adventurers. Totally hip and cool. U might not wanna end up in Iri tho. They seem xenophobic and lifts impression of it was quite negative. Just hope u don't end up in central roshar or the frostlands or the unclaimed hills. They are like the equivalents of deserts.

    Can you do an introductory video to the Cosmere and Brandon Sandersons books, I read the Mistborn trilogy and will get into his other books as soon as I finish Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time and then find Sanderson’s other books. But I feel like I haven’t found videos that have an introduction to the world. You talk about survival on these planets, and a little bit about a few of the books that occur on these planets, but I would like to know what all the planets are and what book goes to them.

    Definitely! I'm working through doing videos for each book right now. All of the standalone Cosmere short stories are done, and as soon as I finish the one on Roshar I'll head to a different planet/series. Which one should I do next?

    Read And Find Out. I'm not sure, I'm still learning the basics of the Cosmere universe. Maybe Mistborn since it's what I've read so far, and because I don't remember exactly what books are in the Cosmere besides the Stormlight Archives. I know you glossed over them and I'll have to watch it again. Loving the videos can't wait to watch more!
