The original photos are fascinating! I just finished the restoration of a Brubaker Box and it was a challenge! But what an iconic little odd machine it is.

Why not use a Type 2 chassis, especially when VW turned down Brubaker's attempt to purchase Type 1 chassis. It would have been infinitely easier to build a copy of the type1 combined with the characteristics of the type 2 chassis. I think they gave up too early.

The 8-track was also used in the Voyager 1 & 2 space craft and the recorders continue to work now. I am guessing that the tape is layered metal. That is damned historical and it seems that it will continue to work long after mankind is gone.

The only thing the tape recorders on those probes have in common with an 8-Track is the way the endless loop tape pulls out from the inside of the hub and back in at the edge.

Tape deteriorates over time.

What's the connection with the company "Monocoque"?....They produced the "Box" in the late 70s with a Honda drivetrain.

The body panels and paint job on that particular example is horribly pebbly and is just awful looking! I've seen others examples that look sharp and sleek!
