I’m struggling with plantar fasciitis. I’m 61 but quite active and when I’m home I prefer to be barefoot. In September I went to a podiatrist. Her answer was a cortisone shot and arch supports. A month later the pain was back. I searched the internet and did most of the activities I saw people prescribe, yet the pain persisted. Now I’m in PT, and he has helped the most, yet he is not a supporter of natural footwear and thinks I may have to stay with the arch supports. I’ve just found your community and ordered the sole mate. It’s on its way. There are so many varying opinions on feet and how to “fix” them, and it’s incredibly frustrating. I’m hoping you guys are correct and that I will conquer this as I conquered lupus: by ignoring doctors and researching online.

Sorry to hear about the plantar fasciitis - unfortunately your story is far too common! The key with arch supports and orthotics is very gradually transitioning out of them while strengthening your feet/ankles/hips etc. It's a process but it's absolutely possible for the vast majority of people. Make sure you listen to our podcast on the Key Principles of Injury Rehab and on Plantar Fasciitis 👌
