Dude, I am sooo happy i stumbled upon this video. KZread did so good by recommending this to me. The production value is INCREDIBLE, the information is fairly niche while still being entertaining, good choice in music, and I LOVE the little google doc with all the references and links. Seriously top tier stuff man. So, they work as markers of punctuation that indicates mood) Interestingly, if you have too much of them)) in a texts) it means you're nervous)))) and you're trying to cover it with making text super "look how smiling and friendly I'm")))))) It's litteraly a textual version of smiling awkwardly and uncomfortably)))) and cyrillic keyboard is called yee-tsoo-Ken.

Dude, the way this was edited feels like a massive breath of fresh air! Everything has so much character and they move so swiftly and snappily; it's like video games and that flat-colored graphic design style in one package. I've been so used to the "slowly panning images" editing style that I didn't know I needed something like this.

Emoji were also present in Pictochat, the drawing and messaging client built into the Nintendo DS! They were the early cellphone type. I used to draw pictures with them when I was bored as a kid.

The editing at 9:13 is amazing.

Great vid! One huge downside of emojis is that the different operating systems (or fonts I guess?) can hugely change their meaning. Look at the different ways that Apple and Android render their animals. They can change with software updates too… I’m an Apple user, and my favourite emoji used to have smiling eyes with gritted teeth, like the top half of 😊 with the bottom half of 😬. That conveys an emotion that is no longer available to me and it makes me sad

I remember making my class stop copying people by drawing a picture of a cat with text near it saying "dont copy or the cat will be mad" on a whiteboard (it was an emoticon cat)

The editing is so clean i love it! Especially when the text moves on screen and switches between different fonts, makes it look like it actually has enertia (⁠☆⁠▽⁠☆⁠)

emoticon (especially large ones conveying actions not emotions) seem so much more expressive than emojis, typing them is also usually faster than searching for the right emoji.

I used to scour the internet for good emoticons for my AIM away message, my Xanga blog and comments and my GaiaOnline General Discussion forum post signatures. I sure am 31 years old

9:22 you will notice in the lower left corner of the japanese keyboard is a little emoticon face. This contained a dictionary of those very complicated japanese emoticons which used all kinds of special characters. I used to use this feature on my ipod touch in 2008, 2009 when emoji were not yet standardized across mobile devices, and many of my friends devices did not support emoji. Im not sure if it is still on the japanese keyboard on Apple devices, but i know it is not on android. (╭ರ_•́) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
