The History of Burma

The history of Burma begins with several city-states inhabited by the Pyu People along the Irrawaddy River from c. 200 BCE. During the 11th Century, they were united under the Kingdom of Pagan, laying the foundations of the Burmese state. Burdended by tax-exempt Buddhist monastaries in the 13th Century, Pagan became easy prey for Mongol armies, who destroyed the kingdom in 1297.
Several weaker states followed over the coming centuries, such as Myinsaing, Pinya and Ava. Burma was again revaged in the early 16th Century by Shan peoples to the north, cultimating in the destruction of Ava in 1527. From the ruins, a new Toungoo Dynasty emerged and began to dominate South East Asia for the next two centuries.
Political turmoil in the 18th Century lead to the rise of the Konbaung Dynasty, which ruled all of Burma until it was conquered by the British Empire through three wars between 1824-85. Occupied by Japan during the Second World War, Burma gained independence in 1948, experimenting with various forms of government since.

@SURREY CROSSING Who decides where countries of the past can and can't go? Is there a set limit? 50 miles? Did the Mongol Empire go where they shouldn't have? I suppose Napoleon did, but what about the Vikings? Hmm.

@SURREY CROSSING Going how far back? I suppose you think the Romans should have remained in Rome? Or wherever they were before that. The Turks should have stayed up on the steppe. Or further back perhaps? The Indo-Europeans shouldn't have spread into India and Europe? Or even further back? We shouldn't have left Africa? Where's the line?

@SURREY CROSSING Let's stop with the ad hominems please, and judge each other on intellect and substance of argument. I'm simply trying to work out what you consider right and wrong. I'm glad to know you don't have an issue specifically with the British Empire, but I still can't quite work out what your stance is. Are you saying you would rather all countries remain as they had been as they came into being? And what is the date you are setting for this? I assume you are against the Roman Empire colonizing it's surrounding area? As far as I can see, you have been against every single war fought between two peoples in history, based on some moral vaguely of "should" and "shouldn't". In your eyes, each country has a place and should stick to it no matter what, but I still fail to see the boundaries of this idea. The Normans shouldn't have invaded England. The Turks shouldn't have invaded the Byzantine Empire. From what I can tell, you are fine with migration but not nation on nation war. So you are fine with the European settlement of the Americas, but not any violence that comes of it? I have so many questions for your bizarre standpoint!

@Dark Lord Sauron Aztec isn't a culture. The name Aztec is the name that the Mexica people had before they founded their capital in the 13th century, and the gods named them Mexico people (the name that gave birth to the today's country of Mexico and its capital). The Nahua migration, much like the Shan migration, seize control over mesoamerica by the 13th-14th century and largely merge with mixtec culture (most modern Aztec manuscript being actually mixtec) and influencing the post-classic mayas. All the nahua shared the same religion, close to the same language, and a lot other cultural things from Honduras to northern Mexico. Even if the so called Aztec empire, which in reality, was a three Texcoco lake city states alliance, was the most powerful of them all, we nevertheless shouldn't forgot about the other Mexican culture who where arguably as advanced and interesting.
