Imagine reading a series of books and thinking that the author never use metaphors and symbolism to express themselves, the characters, the world within it. Couldn't be me. Please don't ever stop what your doing, I love these deep dives so much and I know that majority of people here do too. ❤ Also one of my favorite lines is the "dusk seeping into the room" and the lines similar to this throughout ASoIaF because it shows the light and shadow are very much alive.

Ser Robin Rhysling vs Leo Longthorn Tyrell, is like a Grey King figure fighting a green king. So summer king vs winter king symbolism. A lance to the heart, is like being killed. But he rises again... Splinters flying, a one-eyed dude rising from the dead. It reminds me of the prologue...

I'm over a week late, but here's what stands out to me. If the tourney is symbolism for the battle against the Bloodstone Emperor that happened on the Battle Isle and what happened between Rhaegar and Lyanna, it's so curious that the whole time Dunk was keeping his eye on Valarr and watching him intently. Especially during this entire time, Dunk kept thinking that he had to "unhorse" Valarr. And when someone is unhorsed in a jousting tourney, that person is brought down/brought back to earth. You've mentioned how riding a horse could mean being on the astral plane or inside the weirwood. So, we have Dunk and Egg (mostly Dunk) watching Valarr while thinking that they must "unhorse" him, which gives me the idea of someone in the current story (maybe Bran, maybe Euron) looking through the weirwood net, observing figures from the past like Rhaegar, Azor Ahai, or the Bloodstone Emperor, and trying to "unhorse" them from the astral plane or the weirwood net, bringing them back to earth or to the real world. The word "unhorse" stood out to me specifically.

If I were in charge at HBO, I'd have learnt my lesson from season 8 of GoT (George is the irreplaceable one with the talent & substitutes are a waste of money & a hit to reputation) and insisted George was in the writing room as much as he was willing. The news about the 2 seasons greenlit & hands-on GRRM sounds very positive to me.

1:50:02 - Hey Dave, just wanted to say that Aerion and his men's behavior here isn't just petty - it is far, far worse. These puppets are *this family's livelihood!!!* It takes a moment to destroy but weeks and possibly months to create!! As an artist I'm especially horrified of the breaking of her fingers 😣😫🤬 the nimbleness of these fingers, their connection to the brain and eyes is what puts food on the table. It is so painful to read. I love Dunk for standing up for what's right without a second thought. The insane privilege of a prince destroying the livelihood of those much much below him is infuriating.

1:28:12 I’m always excited to hear GRRM is creating anything! 1:58:23 So Dunk, the representation of a true night, had a cup of wine (blood/weirwood paste), went through the wall of watchers (North of the wall), to save a woman to save a woman from a dragon (Frozen Azor Ahai). As the prince’s guard (the others) close in on Dunk (the last hero), Egg (an unknown dragon) steps in and commands the guards (others) to stop their attack… Am I reading into this too much?

In the previous stream, there was a part that was explaining the rules of the tourney and there was a sentence somewhere along the lines of "... the others were left to be challengers". So could it be that you got it the other way around and the champions are the heroes defending the weirwood net and the realms of men from the others and the night king? Prince Valarr, who doesn't fit with the symbolism of the other champions, as you said, could be the last hero, implying that he had dragon blood.

If Rhysling means wine it could be symbolism for blood. The way grrm worded it sounds like the nissa nissa story. A lance to the chest. splinters are a comet shard that took out one of his eyes aka one of the moons. His name and sigil symbolizing a blood and a door(blood sacrifice that opens a door) maybe

Great stream as always! Just want to build on all the points you found pointing to potential pyre sex...We know how GRRM likes to take his previously written ideas/themes and build on them/incorporate them into A Song of Ice and Fire. Well, I've only read the very beginning of this novelette (a while ago)...but isn't GRRM's Meathouse Man (and apologies for bringing up this disturbing story) about a corpse-handler that reanimates corpses to perform manual labour...and then visits corpse brothels where the sex workers are reanimated corpses? I dont know about you... but feels like GRRM incorporating these ideas into a Jon Snow pyre sex/resurrection vibes to me! Sorry again lol.

I think the political conflict here is between Maekar and Baelor. Aeiron is not just an evil kid, he is pushed by his father. I think Maekar is a mix of Tywin and Randyll Tarley. He is pushing Daeron to be a knight even though he doesn't want to. I think he sent Aemon away to be a master because he was to bad at fighting. More as a way to hide him. As Raymunn Fosseway, says, to this toxisic masculine warriors, to be a maester is a discrase. I also think the trail by seven was Makar's idea not Aeron's. I think when Maekar in the end agrees to let Egg become Dunk's squire, it is not to be nice to any of them. He wants to make a man out of him.

Now I read that it was King Daeron II who sent Aemon to the citadel, because he thought there were to many princes. Maekar protested and saw it as an insult.
