I just started reading Carol's book "Mindset" and at age 56 a lifetime of anxiety and crippling fear of failure has evaporated. I'm halfway through the book and want to cry because I have literally floundered for half a CENTURY in mediocrity, despite being very talented as a holistic wellness practitioner and emotional healing coach, because of being hamstrung by low self esteem following a really difficult childhood. It's virtually gone. Guys. EVERYONE MUST READ THIS BOOK and embrace it's logos.

"Why does feeling stupid exist?" Now that's a thought-provoking question. Dweck's answer was better than expected.

It removed me from a self pity mentality, I'd think the world was out to get me. Now it matters very little what the life throws at me, because I'm the one that controls how I feel about it, and if know I an get through tough things and grow, well then, come at me.

Thanks. Will the book provide any valueable knowledge besides having a growth mindset? Some reviews suggest you get the same benefit from watching the Ted X talk. Best regards

Both are valid forms of acquiring information, you have everything to gain trying to extract knowledge from both these sources. In the end it just matters what kind of information you are looking for, though the book focuses mainly on the growth mindset the implications on life of having such a mindset are much deeper then simply "I want to be better", it's understanding that having this mindset can make you see life in a dramatic new angle. Though I should say that not everyone reacts the same way, this book having such a deep impact on me (because it applied directly to my life) might not have such a deep impact on you, that is why you should understand what you are looking for so that you can look at the information and understand if it suits you or not.

Wow. Cant believe this is here. Tom, I watched you on Rich Roll's podcast where you said Carol's book Mindset was the most important book in the English language. I ordered the book right away after your endorsement and am half way thru it now. So true....the fundamentals in Mindset are necessary in self discovery early in the process. Once you have this foundation, all books you then read afterward and learning you do will come from the proper "mindset" to have lasting effects.

I have just realised that the historical phenomenon that civilizations that were freer in their mindset, attained the most is still latent. It is not about the learning, it is about how free your mindset is to do so... Can you learn from your failures and from what the whole world offers you?

I worked for over 20 years with a fixed mindset company. The leader was a growth mindset for his own ideas, but never conveyed that to the rest. Secrets, blame, and relations, got into the main company's fixed mindset. Even when bought out this remained. No consequenses for bad behavior.

I'm here from Rich Roll's February 26, 2019 podcast where you said Carol's book "'Mindset' was the most important book in the English language." That was a fantastic podcast! Teach the children! That's where I feel the greatest impact for the growth mindset can occur. Teach the teachers and the parents that will become 'growth mindset' people that will influence and teach the children, who will become the leaders of tomorrow. A growth mindset curriculum ought to be made mandatory for all schools (and to teach immigrants who desire to become American and Canadian citizens). Think of all the international students who come through North America for education, who will then go back to their homeland and become parents, CEOs and leaders of their country. Here is a *specific idea*, donate some books to teachers, principals, school boards, the minister of education, policy and bill makers. Write in the book your testimonial, the link to this interview as well, write "Pay it forward", as in donate the book to someone else once the reader has read it. That's my creative idea/contribution on what I think you can do @Tom Bilyeu. That's how you can "give back". Even though I am paralyzed by fear/anxiety/trauma, I will order me the book and then pass it on once I'm done with it. You made me want to believe I can change myself. Thank you for being you.

My entire family has a fixed mindset. They are good people, but, they are closed minded. My mom's advice to me is "don't say anything". I'm done voicing my opinion to my sisters and brother. One of my sister's is two years younger and looks way older than me. I think she resents me for taking care of my health and exercising. I look super young for my age and she looks her age.

The elephant in the room is the battle between two different mindsets: Management and Leadership (emerging). If we listen to experts on fasting (reduced eating) we quickly learn that the world driven by money - does not want us to be healthy!!! If we look at the Iceberg model of change we realize that the world we take for granted consists of many layers, the deeper we go the more profound the impact: 1. Events (visible), 2. Patterns, 3. Structure, 4.Vision and 5.Mindsets (I have swapped 4 and 5 from the original). Many management job titles have somehow been reworded to read Leaders. However, if we take John Maxwell's paradigm of 5 levels of leadership we soon discover that the bottom level leaders i.e. "Position (People follow because they do not know any better)" require no effort or ability to achieve it!? It can be given to anyone based on appointment. And that is where Management trying to mean "Leadership" ends. Management and the real Leadership are not complementary mindsets, they are worlds apart. In the Management defined world, we find many "management" bodies of knowledge, courses, certificates that break down the process/technology/people world into disciplines like: Business Analysis (BABOK), Change Management (CMBOK), Project Management (PMBOK) etc. Then each of the disciplines gets further broken down into chapters and subchapters. For examples, CMBOK consists of 13 chapters divided into 53 subchapters. The authors who wrote those bodies of knowledge have read a lot of books. This is the world of money for the money sake. In the real world, the trick is to "connect (all those) the dots", hence huge failure rates. Instead, find a good author, then follow a "gold vein" of other authors with real life stories, not some "processed knowledge". Real life stories are much healthier "foods". Carol Dweck's Fixed vs Growth Mindsets, Liz Wiseman's Diminishers vs Multipliers, Traditional vs System Thinking, etc all essentially provide further evidence of this great divide between Management and Leadership. We could also mention Stephen Covey's 8 habits of highly effective people, W.E.Deming's 14 critique points of management, Chris Argyris' Defensive Routines, etc to further emphasise the need to abandon Management mindset in favour of Leadership mindset. Management implies a ceiling, blame, problems, whilst Leadership does the opposite: thriving, sincerity, psychological safety etc. Business Analysis, Change Management, Project Management are all misnomers. We should advocate for Business Acumen, Change Leadership, Project Leadership etc. Make the switch!
