Game finished early October 18th, 1994 - my dad’s 40th birthday. I was 8 years old, and couldn’t stay up for the ending. The next morning, Dad told me all about how Joe Cool won it at the end, and how awesome it was to see our Chiefs finally win at Mile High. Dad passed away earlier this year. He got to see 2 Chiefs Super Bowls, though. Pretty cool.

I know the feeling…and my Dad was a die hard gang greener…but, he was also an old school AFL representative so he always had an affinity for the original AFL squads (except the Raiders 😂) Miss you pop, love you. RIP to your Dad…glad he got to see his boys get their chips again.

My grandma insisted that I go to bed but I told her the game was too good to go to sleep. She came back to me about every 10-15 minutes still insisting that I go to bed but I kept telling her no way! Top 10 MNF game ever. Maybe top 5. This was such an awesome gem then, and now. Definitely lived up to the hype from start to finish. I'll always remember Neil Smith getting hyped on the sideline with his backwards hat when Montana hit that final TD strike. Even when he went to the Chiefs, I was still a Montana fan to the max. On, and off the gridiron he just always seemed so smooth, and cool. Simply the best. 90's NFL was simply the best.

Everyone in the shop was listening on radio. When Denver scored their last touchdown, I thought "That's the ball game", turned off the TV, gathered my paperwork, and headed back to my desk. Not to demean Montana, he played great, but the Broncos defense was awful in 1994. Old and slow, it had to bring back safety Dennis Smith off the heap after a couple games to help. Denver was the last ranked defense in 94, and it showed in this game, as Montana has a clean pocket for throw after throw. Montana threw it 54 times and was never sacked. We used to joke whenever we saw defensive coordinator Charlie Waters that year, they needed to start an air raid siren.
