Chris Tang here (former Atari/Capcom designer, Primal Rage I/II/SFIII3s etc.) - This is one of the best podcast episodes I've ever experienced, period. Having Doc on and tell these stories and the history of the ever growing best arcade in the universe had me smiling ear to ear nonstop - and I loved hearing all your reflections on how arcades really were back in the day! Just wanted to mention about the special move inputs on Primal Rage 1; I had been kicking and screaming for them to simplify inputs from early in development but those with more influence in the team doubled down on the "we need to be different" route and only allowed positive edge inputs starting from 2.0 as a concession. I never stopped screaming about it because I knew it was hurting the game's playability - especially for our core audience of casuals and kids who just want to bang on stuff and get moves to come out. It took when the game did poorly on test in Japan that they finally gave in for 2.3J ; there were no Japanese designers - that was me! (but I'll take that as a compliment from Doc!) XD Oddly the version on Midway Arcade Treasures 2 for PS2/XB uses the 2.3J standardized inputs so it really is the definitive way to play PR1. Thankfully getting those inputs the way I wanted wasn't a problem for Primal Rage II, but that was of course, unfortunately cancelled :/. Now, thanks to the efforts of Doc and content like this episode, the game can be played and the stories about it be shared. Thanks so much for this episode, it really made my week, and I hope that when Capcom Fighting All-Stars shows up at GGA, I'll get to be there too!
As someone who lives in Illinois and has been going to the Galloping Ghost with friends for years now, it's so awesome to see them getting the recognition they deserve. It really is like a history museum of arcade games, and I look forward to going back for years to come!
Always love going up to Galloping Ghosts, it's just an hour drive for me and everytime I go I play until my wrists hurt lol
Doc is one hell of a cool dude. I hope I get to visit galloping ghost someday.
I hope Doc gets a hold of Capcom Fighting All Stars just to get all of Triple KO over to Galloping Ghost!
I'm in the suburbs of Chicago so I've got easy access to GG, but I only ever went once for a friend's birthday party, probably over 12-13 years ago. I'm thinking it's time I go for another visit
If you're a gamer period, you need to make a pilgrimage to Galloping Ghosts
This interview came up at the right time, man. I just finished Bastich B 64K's 10 hr. epic documentary about the history of arcades ("Arcades: The Universal Language - Director's Cut"), which only brings me to appreciate a place like Galloping Ghost Arcade more after seeing it. Shoutouts to Doc and the crew at GGA, I hope to visit someday and that you cats continue to thrive. The work is appreciated; great ep, fellas.
As a Chi-Town boy, I love seeing Galloping Ghost get its credit. Truly a Holy site of gaming, Thanks for everything Doc.
My 2014 trip from Saudi to chicago was delightful , and GGA was easily on top 3 highlight of that trip , spend more than 5 hours on the place , it was magical

Going to galloping ghost is definitely on my bucket list for places to go
Back in 2017 I traveled from the Netherlands to Chicago for Mortal Kombat 25th anniversary. Daniel Pesina picked me up from the airport and drove me straight to GGA were I met Doc and other MK fans. Had such an awesome time. Doc also organized the 25th anniversary of MK at Kombat Kon. Best times of my life. He also signed my MK2 banner with the rest of the MK cast 🔥🔥
I FUCKING LOVE THE GALLOPING GHOST

Aw MAN! I was in Illinois for the holidays and we specifically tried to find the best arcades in Chicago, but we just had to go off of what we found on Google. Round 1 and Nickel City were both amazing in their own ways, but if I had KNOWN about Galloping Ghost? BAH! Now I've gotta pretend to want to visit family again to get another chance.
The guy so passionate after all that years i respect him glad they ve survived after pandemic.
Sounded like Doc has the Capcom Fighting All Stars arcade, just waiting for its turn to be unveiled. Maybe you guys can do a fan meetup while Triple KO is there.
Doc is chill asf
