Maybe a weird one, but I’d love an episode about alt costumes/colours in fighting games through the years. How different games handle them, breaking down some favs and least favs, crazy examples… Would be very cool
It's crazy that Shenmue 1 and 2 didn't have a hidden fighting game mode. After all, the battle system in that game was basically just Virtua Fighter.
Dino Crisis 2 also have a vs mode called Extra Crisis (you have to beat the game first) then you can buy dinosaurs and fight each other.
Xenogears has a 2 player mech versus mode in it. Not hidden but it's unlocked around 40 hours into the game.
That first Buffy game was legitimately awesome. It still holds up today. The second Buffy game, while not as good, did have an arena multiplayer mode.
So it looks like-at least for this occasion-Triple KO is going back to its roots and discussing a specific fighting game-related topic rather than simply catching up on the latest fighting game-related news and events. Will be looking forward to checking it out later today! =)

To their credit, something kept happening in the FGC at all times. At least they weren't at a want for topics.
Matt was really great this episode as a host making sure everyone got time to talk. Conversation felt much more balanced, and was just a great episode overall.
Big props to Justin for doing the show on the road, timezones be damned (he's in JP right now?).
Love when the TKO dudes talk about a specific topic. As much as I love the fighting game news since this has been a great year for it I love this just a little more. Especially when Matt gets to remind Justin and Max of forgotten gems\trash
The Revenge of the Sith game is Backwards Compatible! Its actually really good

I bought that game when it came out on og xbox. Mulitplayer was super fun and there was fatalities if you killed with a heavy slash

@@silverslade7849 I totally forgot about the fatalities! I would run over to my friends house to play it on OG Xbox and we would run “sets” till the next morning.

My brother and I would sometimes bust it out and play it on the PS2. Had an avid rotation in my fighting game collection for a summer or two when I was 14/15.
the news is nice but i prefer podcasts like this WAY more
One of the most Matt McMusclesey episode yet, I really enjoyed it.
“Kung Fu Panda” on PS3/Xbox 360 had a verses mode. It was kind of like Power Stone. There was even a Wii Exclusive follow-up “Kung Fu Panda: Legendary Warriors” that also had a versus mode. Don’t even get me started on “Kung Fu Panda: Showdown of Legendary Legends”.
I know for a fact that Fight’N Rage has an unlockable Vs. Mode in it and you can play as enemies and bosses in that mode
Bummer, they didn't talk about MODE B in the NES Double Dragon, Dragon Ball Advance's versus mode, and the Dragon Ball the Revenge of King Piccolo's VS mode...
Golden Axe VS mode on Genesis was called Duel. That’s why the fighting game was Golden Axe: The Duel.
My favorite bit about the taunts in Revenge of the Sith was they had Mace Windu say “I will strike you down with great vengeance.” Yeah, it doesn’t technically fit thematically but a great reference nonetheless. Also, am I the only one who liked X-kaliber 2097? I remember the Nintendo Power article about it and they made a real big deal about the music. I just wanted it cause I was obsessed with Highlander and it was close enough. 😂
In River City Rival Showdown (a 3DS game that's getting ported to modern systems and I highly recommend) there was a fighting minigame called Double Dragon Duel. It was the same combat system as the main game, but with a decent roster, each character coming with maybe a weapon and one or two specials. The funny part though, is that the roster was all River City characters pretending to be other guys, like using their western names instead of the japanese ones, and even two of them cosplaying as Billy and Jimmy. I'm not sure if any other games in the series had a similar mode, I know there were a few spin-offs with versus fights or entirely focused on them, but DDD has to be my favorite just for all the effort they put into the flavor.
If you guys do an episode about "WE'LL DO IT OURSELVES" fighting games, you gotta check out Smash 64 Remix. The mods and trailers for that are amazing.
Matt said something about FGC members ending up working at Sony Santa Monica and that makes me wonder what they’re involvement was with God of War Ascensions multiplayer. At a competitive level it actually had a lot of RPS and some deeply unappreciated mechanics.. bring back God of war multiplayer!!
"Megaman X online deathmatch" is the the megaman "fighting game" you are thinking of. An awesome concept and game. Servers went down earlier this years unfortunately.
Super Punch Out on snes has a secret vs mode that was recently discovered.
Dragonball advanced adventure was one of my favorite non fighting game fighters
The greatest crossover podcast in gaming! Brings me back to my childhood in the 90s and 2000s playing fighting games... especially this episode.
My friend and I put a lot of time in the vs mode in TMNT 2003 on the gamecube
I had hoped you guys would go through Dragonball Advance Adventures because it's pretty sick. Still a very great line of games I didn''t know had versus modes
You guys forgot the Sonic Fighting Game that it’s on the Lost Judgment game … that game it’s wild and Hype too 😁 … hope you guys can check it out
Damn I wanted to hear them all discuss MK1! But this is a fun topic! Maybe they should looks at slightly longer eps and splitting it half news and half a fun topic.

Hey guys! Great show as always! Would be great to have more miniatures of the old obscure video games you are talking about, there are some parts where you talk about not well know video games but there is not much reference:) thanks for TKO
Track and field II on the NES had a vs mode where you could play 2 player fencing and Taekwondo fights. OG Double Dragon on NES also had a vs fighting mode.
the entire video I was hoping that someone would mention the hidden fighting game mode in Megaman 7 and at the VERY end you finaly mentioned it, that made me so happy, also thanks for mentioning the 2 fanmade MM fighting games, I'm totaly gonne check those out!
Surprised no one mentioned one of the og fighting game modes in non-fighting games, Double Dragon nes, and how the original arcade Double Dragon kind of becomes a fighting game at the very end in 2 player mode. I also double checked and all the genesis Golden Axe games include The Duel vs mode. And an honorable mention for King of the Monsters 2, I say honorable mention because it's more of a surprise fighting game rather than a game with a fighting mode. The original KOTM is a wrestling game and then for KOTM2 it became a sort of hybrid between wrestling and a beat em up, but for the genesis port of 2 it was made into what's pretty much an arena fighter. As for the mention of the weird availability of MK games on modern platforms, what's truly weird is what's on pc vs what's on consoles. You can still get pretty much all the classic 2D games on pc through a mix of gog and steam. On gog you have the pretty decent pc/dos ports of 1-3 plus the windows ports of Trilogy and 4, and through amazon and gamestop you can get the Arcade Kollection, just make sure to tinker with it so it won't check for windows live. I can get maybe the 3D era having some rights issues but there's gotta be something else going on for the original 2D games lack of availability elsewhere.
That Buffy the Vampire Slayer game immediately came to mind when I read the title. So it was a nice surprise to hear Matt not only mention it, but do so early into the episode !
I cant believe you guys actually mention revenge of the sith on ps2, thats a hidden gem
i'll still never know what possessed me to buy the rots game on launch day but i did and the vs mode was so much fun, way better than the actual game.
I hope y'all cover dino crisis 2 that had a cool dino fighting game

Well goddann, I remember playing both Dino Crisis on PSX in the year 2000, and there wasnt such thing,, but the re-relase eleven years later, on PS3 may have such bonuses? Have to check, kinda interesting (゜o゜;
Enter the Matrix as a whole is so... surreal, the fact you have to hack the game to unlock stuff was so weird and yet so ahead of it's time
I get super giddy when a new Triple KO video is uploaded. I been rewatching old episodes and man i cant get enough. You guys are awesome!!! All 3 of yous!!! Love you all ❤

Maybe get out more dude.
i remember Batman forever on snes had a sort of versus fighting mode that I played more than the main game because it was basically just mortal Kombat with goofy Batman characters
It was a quick thing, but the end of GoW when it’s a kaiju battle with Ares.
enter the matrix was my shit back in the day. Bullet time blew my mind. Mustve ran through that game soooo many times
I was wondering why I enjoyed playing that RoTS vs mode with my nephews so much.
Soooo when are you guys talking about spicy man of culture fighting games?
Justin: "Teras..." Max: "Teras Kasi, shut the hell up!" I love it. Such disgust!
12:40 "it shouldn't be an issue until you get to Freddy and Kratos" I think these issues go beyond things like guest characters or licensed outside content. A lot of games with none of that just NEVER get brought back despite the fact it would be free money. There's gotta be some kind of internal problem with game companies as to why so many classic games just don't get brought back.
Another Capcom game that had a versus mode was Trojan. Speaking of fan games, you should talk about that homebrew PC port of Street Fighter 2 that was better than the actual one.
There's a sweet spot in time when action license games used to cater to multiplayer versus (One Piece Grand series, Star Wars, Marvel Nemesis) or some other game in a different genre and I wish they brought this back. I miss this trend and wish it came back, its the only reason I bought these games. Imagine booting Square Avengers or Guardians and you see a battle mode with the major characters and villains, even if they'd be half assed it'd be cool to flex your different costumes while beating your friends as hawkeye.
Oh my gawd!! I remember Excalibur 2097! 😂😂
Super Punch-out has a hidden 2p versus mode.
I'm surprised they didn't mention Star Ocean TTEOT. I was flabergasted when i unlocked the 4 player arena fighting mode.
Kinda happy that there is no fgc news, because I love obscure topic podcasts
I love how Matt did an episode of the Worst Fighting Game on Teras Kasi and even HE forgot it existed
I'm kinda surprised that Buck Up and Drive and Xenogears with a full on fighting game training mode
Yo, there's a small part of me that's legit hoping they talk about Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure. The 1v1 mode in that game is a damn good time.
I hope we get to see that “God Artists” video soon.
There *is* actually a fighting game mode in Yakuza 3-5. Technically. It’s called IF7/8/9 and acts as a fighting game style boss rush mode. However, you can’t use Heat moves and there is no vs mode for it 😢
@DeanRGG
10 ай бұрын
Yakuza 5’s IF VR machine focused more on a 2.5D classic beat ‘em up homage mode but yeah, that boss rush mode should’ve had a local VS option. Super disappointing that the Yakuza/Judgment games have such unique combat systems filled with many diverse movesets and a hidden depth of fighting game style mechanics like juggling, yet there’s no VS PVP modes nor a fighting game inclusion of any of its characters (besides costumes in VF5) Also this is unrelated to your comment but seeing all 3 of these guys talk about Yakuza, more than I ever expected, REALLY makes me wish they’d play the games more! I’d be happy even with just seeing them react to the crazy juggle combos possible in Lost Judgment or the upcoming Like a Dragon Gaiden haha
In Persona 5, Joker can play retro games where one is a mini game where you do Fighting game imputs.
Great topic that you could revisit in the future! I would love to hear a discussion about Projectiles in games, and Zoning in general
One theat comes to mind is the v.s mode in onimusha dawn of dreams
How could Matt forget Masters of Teras Kasi when he made a "Worst Fighting Game" episode on it? LOL
Back to roots. I'm with it
I can't believe they missed Xenogears on ps1
Spider-Man Friend or Foe had a Power Stone style vs Mode. So if you ever wanted to see Venom battle Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, there's your chance there. X-Men Legends 2 had a vs Mode of sorts, but it was a little weird. Mega Man 7's VS mode WAS going to have all 8 Robot Masters in the game as playable fighters on top of Mega Man and Bass. But MM7 only had a few months to be made, and it's great if you ask me despite that short dev time. A dedicated Mega Man fighting game would be great. Mega Man X Fighting Arena(I think that's the name) and Robot Master Mayhem like Matt mentioned are cool MVC style games. MMX Deathmatch was cool too from what I've seen.
Hi guys love the show! ZOE 1 had a vs mode, i think you had to beat the game to access
friendly suggestion, you guys should put more gameplay of the games you talk about
I hope the upcoming fangame episode covers ArmJoe, the Les Miserables fighting game
it's a bit of a shame that you didn't mention (or maybe didn't know about) Warframe. The free to play shooter has a minigame called Frame Fighter (the logo looks eerily similar to a certain other "Fighter" game) that allows for 1v1 2d fighting
Adding onto the Star Wars Fighting Game Discussion, there was going to be a remake of all Rouge Squadron games in a collection on the Wii and it was supposed to have a bonus combat mode with light sabers. It was called Rouge Leader and apparently, it was finished but FACTOR5 went bankrupt before the game could get out the door and a bunch of legal issues scared LUCASARTS off from ever releasing it. Unseen64/DYKG did a video on the topic.
About Yakuza, there's a PSP spinoff that has versus.
I played the Xenogears fighting game mode for hours and hours back in the day.
Someone brought it up in chat, but its a shame they didnt talk about the vs mode in Star Ocean 3.
Justin’s towel in the back bothers me. There, I said it lol.
I was REALLY young when I played Enter The Matrix but I didn't hate it. I do recall quite a bit of jank however.
Ordering Chinese food from HelloFresh be like 24:08 Damn that 💩 😿 fresh AF
Evoland has a random street fighter 4 sfyle battle. It's a jrpg btw
Gotta love how every dev who ever get the opportunity to work on Star Wars feels the need to include a fighting mode. Teras kasi was so bad everyone just want a better one.
Matt said Fire Ant arc, and I thought he was talking Hunter X Hunter. Turns out that arc from HxH started a month after Enter the Matrix released.
Back to the future 2 and 3. And predahtor. Maaan its no wonder avgn resonates with us.
Xenogears and Zone of the Enders 1+2 had a versus mode.
The first power rangers game on snes has a hidden vs mode on the megazord stages the second player can take control of the monster of the week

I spent hours doing this with my friends definitely should have been talked about
Awesome!
i remember I had that revenge of the sith game as a kid and it was super fun, i remember getting mad when I picked old obi wan bc he did the move from a new hope and then you just die instantly it was funny
there was this NES game called flying warriors that beguins as a plattaformeruntil you had to fight a boss, then suddenly transform into a fighting game!!! it had comand normals, comand super and even a block mechanic! the weirdest thing is the game transform in a turn base rpgeske game for the biggest bosses!!
Tenchu 3 wrath of heaven Had a really obscure fighting game ahead of it's time after you beat the game. And earn all the boss characters it has a super fun multiplayer versus mode think soul caliber mixed assassins creed with ground traps ultimate abilities swinging from roof top to roof top tracking down you prey. I wish they would remake it
Super punch out vs mode no one knew about until 28 years later, look it up plz its broken af and sick
MK4 was released on PC, by Eurocom
37:07 - Not only did Canada have Toys 'R' Us, unlike USA, we still do.
Transformers prime for wii also had a 2 player versus mode
Iirc The Bouncer had a 4 player fighting mode, right? Lol
0/10 No : Xena: Warrior Princess: The Talisman of Fate
Apropos of mostly nothing, but I'd pay money to see the three of you in one room, playing the Versus mode of Bionic Commando Rearmed.
Hey guys in y’all opinion what’s the best system to play fighting games. Console or PC?
Let's go doods!
While I like these episodes, I do kinda prefer the "What's happening now" episodes. At least while a lot is happening. Because it's all immediately relevant and applicable. And we will have years of downtime where we don't have brand new games of the big 3 franchises coming out back to back to deal with all this nostalgia stuff.
Man, as shit as it was, my brother and i played too much of the enter the matrix vs mode
Golden axe 1, 2 and 3.
I just wish you'd show more visuals on the screen for what you're talking about because you'd bring up a game I've never heard of and I go "well what does it look like? o,o" and you're already at the next topic
Im surprised no one brought up Far Cry 6, with the cockfighting pit
You guys missed the best/worst one with the snes/genesis batman forever vs mode
