    I’ve got several of your tools, although I’ve been a bit skeptical about their overall utility. Recently, I discovered that your tools can indeed be better suited to even simple projects than more generic multipurpose tools. In this case, I was using charm squares to create HSTs and then truing up the blocks to 4 ½”. I did a batch using your Tucker Trimmer, then went on to make another batch. Somehow I had misplaced your Tucker Trimmer, so I grabbed a general purpose 6 ½” square ruler and started trimming that way. By the third block I found the extra “fiddling” the generic ruler required to be so frustrating that I put it aside and went digging for the Trimmer. General purpose tools are great for general purpose problems, but functionally focused tools are much better for doing a particular job a repeatedly to create many blocks.

    Believe I read a similar comment..... I was at a retreat, working on flying geese. I forgot my ruler and borrowed one... yes, it was the “Wing Clipper”. At home now and the tool bought for flying geese was NOT the same. Expecting delivery of mine on Saturday, with another Deb Tucker ruler. Looks like my sister will be getting my old, unwanted tools. 🙃

    I recently came across you quilting tools when I was searching for a flying geese ruler online. You tools are brilliant! After quilting for over 40 years-mainly wedding, baby, and lap quilts for friends and family, I decided to focus on mini quilts. I like the idea of using small quantities of fabric to create small projects to display in my small house. I just need to decide which tools to start with. I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos to help me decide.I would love to buy directly from you, but the US exchange rate and shipping costs makes that impossible. Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦

    How do you know how much extra fabric to buy since you make everything slightly oversized then trim? I need some of these tools! Thanks for showing them.

  • @DebTuckersStudio180Design

    @DebTuckersStudio180Design

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Diane, because the oversizing is so minimal you don't really need to purchase extra fabric. Because most designers do build in a buffer and buffer is usually enough. If you would like to purchase extra normally an extra 1/4 yard is enough, on background fabric for a king quilt depending on the pattern you might want an extra 1/2 yard.

  • @KJSew
    @KJSew3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Deb, so, guess the four patch square ruler will not work so well with 2.5 precut strips? Course, guess we can cut them down 2.25. Unless the strip is pinked or oversized. Your thoughts.😉

  • @DebTuckersStudio180Design

    @DebTuckersStudio180Design

    3 жыл бұрын

    We actually have a four patch size in the instructions that use 2.5" strips. You can use the tool to trim four patches made from those strips so that you have a 3.5" finished units. A bit smaller than if you just pieced and used the 2.5" strips but they come out perfect. So you can use your precut strips with the tool if you want.

    In the video you said multiple times that you purposely make your blocks bigger so you can trim them down later. How much bigger do you usual cut your fabrics before sewing them into a block? A 1/4 inch bigger? A 1/2 inch bigger? Or more?

  • @DebTuckersStudio180Design

    @DebTuckersStudio180Design

    3 жыл бұрын

    It varies depends on which unit you are making as to how much bigger the pieces you start with need to be. In the end after all the sewing is done you are usually only trimming off 1/8" to 1/4". Each instruction set that comes with the tools gives you cutting and piecing information.
