I'm sticking around hoping they vote yes and I can push this specific church into radical acceptance and love of all human beings. And if not I took this job because my very loving and accepting on a personal level grandmother goes here and wanted me to, so ill keep this place running till she dies and leave the water running and the drains plugged when I leave.

I was soooo excited to see this one. My ex was in the OTO when we first got together. I didn't know anything about it at the time. He wouldn't say much, and was weird about it, almost like he felt uncomfortable. I even made his initiation robe. I looked into it and realized how weird and predatory it was, but knowing cults I know telling him that wouldn't help. Eventually he brought up not wanting to go to a ritual but everyone would be mad if he didn't, and I could tell he wanted to talk about it, but felt he couldn't because it was a "secret" society, so I pressed him about it. He eventually came clean about the nude rituals and how they wanted to bring him to the next level but if he climbed much higher he'd be getting into s3× magic and he wasn't sure he wanted that. So I told him it was all bull and they were taking advantage of him and his money. He asked if I thought he should quit and I was like well yeah of course, but you have to decide that yourself... it took him a bit longer to decide to quit, but he did.

"Do what thou will be the whole of the law" is literally ancient christian philosophy that became unpopular with the church when people's wills lead them to leave the church. Its complete form is "Do what thou will be the whole of the law and to thy own will be true" is basically just "Know what you want, reflect on what you want, act accordingly to what you actually want" and not "Do whatever". Its a guidance towards living a life where you can feel like you are in control of your own moral standing. Please don't give this to Crowley, because like most of his beliefs, it was all stolen wholesale from much more interesting figures.

I owe at least a little bit to Crowley for conglomerating a lot of really interesting concepts, as well as bringing them to the fore, but I definitely think it's never a good idea to stop learning at the feet of a figurehead...
