    Excellent video, thank you! There is however, a major part of this success story that was not mentioned, that has more to do with the power of inspiration than it does stats and the blossoming of talent. Two days prior to the season opener in Phoenix, and ten days prior to the inaugural season home opener, the tragic event that came to be known as "ONE OCTOBER" cast a dark cloud of confusion and sadness over this city. These players, who didn't ask to come here, suddenly found themselves representatives of a community that was rocked to it's core by a selfish act of violence that made no sense. In between practicing for the first few times together, they were out in the community visiting survivors in the hospitals, donating blood, and making a statement that this organization is first class off the ice, before they were ever able to show if they were any good on the ice. The original pregame ceremony, with all the glitz of a Las Vegas world class show, was written, rehearsed, and ready to go....but was scrapped in favor of a somber, yet inspirational tribute honoring the victims who lost their lives and the courage/dedication of the emergency services/first responders. Ask any Golden Knights player how they were able to rise to the level it takes to play in an NHL game following such an emotional ceremony, and they'll tell you the inspiration they felt was unlike anything they'd ever experienced; they knew they HAD to win that game. They came out on fire, scoring 4 goals before the halfway point of period 1. They wound up winning the inaugural home game 5-2, and they never looked back...they bonded together in a way that allowed chemistry to develop, and they've ridden that inspirational, emotional wave all season long and into the post season...and while it remains to be played out, probably all the way to the Stanley Cup. As a Vegas resident and someone who has seen it unfold from the beginning, I can say with all confidence that the love the team gave to the community, which continues to be returned by the fans nightly, is a very real inspirational boost that blows the lid off any success a salary cap could ever contain!!!

    I appricate your thoughtful comment! I will pin it because you're right. I didn't want to mention that only because It is a touchy subject but I couldn't agree more. I absolutely should've mentioned it because you're totally right! Vegas has a strong and close knit community and it is great to see your hockey team represent them. Good luck the rest of the playoffs Richard!

    Thank you Cole, and again, great video....you obviously know your stuff! And thank you for acknowledging the relevance of the inspiration that all of us here felt motivated our new team to give that little bit extra that carried on throughout the season. I've been a fan of the game for nearly 40 years, and have seen some amazing moments...the Miracle On Manchester, Gretzky tying Howe's record in San Jose and two nights later breaking the record at the LA Forum; the Ducks winning the Cup in their 13th year of existence.....but I can honestly say I've never experienced anything like the Golden Knights home opener pre-game ceremony and the way the team responded. Just before dropping the puck, the names of the 58 who lost their lives were illuminated down onto the ice, and the announcement made asking for 58 seconds of silence to honor their memory. The house lights were dimmed, and the seconds ticked off from 1 thru 58 in large gold numbers on the scoreboard, while 20,000+ people stood there quiet and motionless. It was surreal, and when the house lights came up, I don't believe there was a dry eye in the house. We all wondered, how will this team rise up after such a somber but fitting moment. We found out how when Nosek scored 2 and a half minutes in. The place erupted....but each successive goal produced an increased energy from the fans that I've never felt anything like before. That first period set the tone for the entire season; it may be hard to understand for those who weren't there, but a support base was formed that night between players and fans that is very, very special...and it can be felt at each and every home game. The energy in that building can't be described....it has to be experienced. Sorry for the length of this....I just felt that it's a great hockey story that needs to be told. :)

    I've been a hockey fan for 2 months. Does that make me evil? Ignorant? Band Wagon Jumper? Who cares, I'm now a hockey fan. I'm confused why all the hate from "life long" hockey fans. I'm Born and Raised in Vegas and it's cool that we finally have something like this.

  • @ColeAdams

    @ColeAdams

    6 жыл бұрын

    I'm glad you starting enjoying hockey! Thats why vegas getting a team is such a great thing. I think the main reason life long hockey fans hate vegas is for a couple reasons. They think that the 7 canadian teams are more important than any of the other nhl teams and are ignorant and jealous of what vegas is doing because their teams haven't won a cup since '92. Now i will say that is not at all how all Canadians are. Some really embrace vegas and you shouldn't look at a small % and think its the entire population. I also think another reason is some find the nhl rigged because their teams cant win a cup and vegas in their 1st year is 4 wins away from one. The main reason is jealousy. I like the Lightning and Sharks and have no issue with vegas and love them! I don't care what people think, this team plays hard and embodys what other nhl teams should be. They should play together and harder. Vegas had the lowest odds at the cup and defied the odds. Maybe some of the other NHL teams should get their shit together and stop whining and play with a purpose like vegas. Congrats to your team and just know that every fan starts somewhere so It dosen't matter who you like! Vegas is your team and city so live it up! You never know when your next chance to make the championship will be! Take Care!

    Well, I been a VGK fan for six days. I guess that means I’m going to get a ton of hate LOL. I was in Vegas for five days last week and I really got wrapped up in this team. I had no idea how good or bad this team was before jumping in with both feet. over the last few days I have been catching up on the history of the team, and all the players. My first game was Monday night against the Devils. I had no idea hockey was so fun/intense. Immediately after Monday nights game I ordered gear for me and my son. I’ll say this though, once were in were in. We will be VGK fans for life through all the ups and downs.

    People really can’t understand the bond between this team and we Las Vegans unless they’ve been here. They gave us a reason to celebrate and be happy when the whole city was grieving. They gave us a point to coalesce around, something positive to focus on. You should see how many fans go to practice for every single practice. I got to practice at 8am on Wednesday just to see my team in the flesh. We love the Golden Knights with all our hearts.

Years back we had the wranglers and even at their worst we still supported

    As a guy that lives in a tropical islands of Asia with no fanfare for football, baseball and especially hockey, and as a non hockey fan, I instantly became a fan of the Golden Knights because of how untraditional they manage to construct a championship contending team with a couple of misfits. Usually expansion teams are supposed to suck for their first couple of years. I've seen it (as a basketball fan) happen to the Charlotte Bobcats, Toronto Raptors and the (former) Vancouver Grizzlies yet I have never experienced an expansion team have a playoff level winning record let alone contending for a *Championship* in their 1st year of their existence.

    Austin Zhang....lol! Y'know, the interesting thing about that is that the VGK fanbase is made up of two completely different demographics....a sizeable portion are those who are only fans because of the expansion; this would include families and kids. Then there are those like myself; true fans of the game who have relocated to Vegas who formerly, and in many cases right up until this season, supported the team from the city they left. Those of us who have been around are all too aware that we don't deserve what we got. As fans of this team we have paid no dues. No "just wait 'til next year!'s" I'm from SoCal, and as a former KINGS fan, it took 25 years for them just to make it out of round 2, only to advance to the finals and lose to the Habs. It would be another 19 years before they won the Cup. So here in Vegas, we're so spoiled with this team....but we're not about to give the newbies a hard time, and we're not about to hope this team doesn't go all the way just for the sake of new fans putting their time in.... If the VGK do win the Cup, I figure our dues will be paid on the backside; barring a repeat, there's nowhere to go but down from there. So it's like "retroactive" dues to be paid. lol!!!

    Richard, you're one series away from hoisting the cup. Beating the Jets four in a row after their first game in the semi was so amazing to watch. I was talking to my tv (my wife says yelling - lol) in their first game, asking why they appeared to play in slow-mo being a stride or two behind or not playing their usual neutral zone hockey of continuing to pressurre & squeeze the Jets. I also took a long to time to embrace my "local" team when my family first moved to soCal. I started playing peewee hockey in Rochester Minn (1972) but my parents moved to SoCal in '76. I was heart broken being a Northstars (& Vikings) fan. My (much older) cousin was a social worker in L.A. and would get tickets from the Kings to take "his" kids of latch-key and other kids in need of guidance to hockey games among other activities. I tagged along for the free hockey but some in the crowds only seemed to watch for the fights. I was disheartened. I still follow & root for the Wild but am not happy Mn moved to Dallas - the little boy in me still feels betrayed - haha. But I have been an armchair fan (ticket$) of the Kings long before they started winning conference titles or the Cup, but I must admit, as a fan of the sport. I am so impressed with your Golden Knights, even more now that I read your explanation of how the tragic shooting before the season started coelesced the Kights and the fans. I certainly admire them and will have a big smile for them each time they win. Cole you did a fantastic job outlining the Golden Knights. It was really neat to learn about them and connect the (shots) that appear to be leading to their goal to hoist the Cup - many thanks - and GO KNIGHTS!

    It's no surprise Vegas is doing well, they got the 9th best player of every team. Meaning they can take an above average player on every team. Plus they lucked out on Pittsburgh not being able to protect both goalies. Vegas doing well is an example of why the expansion draft system is so broken.

  • @ColeAdams

    I disagree. No one had them going this far before the season started and there were some serious questions on how good flurry could be for them. Leandro Crouch...."Plus they lucked out on Pittsburgh not being able to protect both goalies." That wasn't the case though. As crazy as this sounds and is, the Pens did not leave Fleury unprotected to be at risk of losing him. It was worse than that. They actually traded their second-round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry draft to Vegas in exchange for them selecting Fleury over another player they decided to protect. Sounds crazy but it's true.

    I wouldn't say the "grand daddy trade on draft night" is the CBJ trade...Karlsson had 6 goals all of last year, and the trade also protected Jack Johnson AND freed the CBJ of clarksons albatross contract. Florida definitely got the shaft, CBJ did what made sense at the time.

  • @ColeAdams

    @ColeAdams

    It was not the "Grand Daddy Trade" on draft night, i was saying that it was the trade that panned out the best and looks the most promising and had the biggest impact. But your points are valid. I pointed out that there was no way this was predictable so CBJ were not dumb to get rid of him but they would defianlty give up the players they protected to get him back in a heart beat. They need a goal scorer and play maker like him.

  • @benabary

    @benabary

    6 жыл бұрын

    "5:05; And the grand daddy of them all was the deal with the Blue Jackets". The CBJ gave up a great 3rd line center, which we needed this year, for vegas to not take our 2nd line RW, 5th Dman and future goaltender. Plus, vegas took on the Clarkson contract, which was a HUGE part of this. I'm just saying that Vegas didn't fleece Columbus. Karlsson won't repeat those numbers (hello 23.4% shooting percentage) and CBJ is free of that awful contract Toronto signed leaving more room for summer FA signings.

  • @ColeAdams

    @ColeAdams

    6 жыл бұрын

    You’re the only person who has commented something like this so you’re in the minority but I respect your input. People are indifferent sometimes about if they would want their player back that they gave up in the expansion draft. I would say Columbus would love the guy who was 3rd in the nhl in goals back for some of the players protected. Now you disagree but I “personally” feel like Columbus wants him back. I said it was the “grand daddy of them all” because we knew flurry was going there and it was no surprise. But Karlsson having 43 goals and getting a 1sr round pick out of him is a big dinners in my opinion based on numbers. Now the situation Columbus was in made it a no brainer and they had to do it but you can’t deny this wasn’t a finesse. Imagine being a different team and getting a average player and a cap dump for the 3rd leader scorer in the nhl and a 1st round pick. Any person would say that is a steal, and Karlsson is 25 so he is very young still so if he turns out to be a consistent scorer and Columbus is still a average team at scoring goals then they will really be wishing him back. I see your points and they’re very valid, this is just my opinion.

    They're gunna regress, and the new fans will start to know the hardship of the NHL. But it couldn't have been a better year (bearing a cup win) and that has got the fans hooked which is the best outcome. The reality is you can't expect all these players to keep having career years, it's just the way the NHL works, which is a kudos to the hard cap system, that sees teams change every year, and creates a generally competitive league from top to bottom. It's not unheard of for there to be 8 different teams in the 16 team playoffs from the year before. In fact the reality is that when everything's going right, like it did in Vegas, most players are flourishing. When it goes south, it's the same thing but most players are struggling. They lost 2 of their better established vets from their top 6 in perron and neal(though they did add stastny), and fleury has had injury problems. Karlsson got a one year prove it deal, and his shooting percentage of nearly 25 is not sustainable. Itll be interesting to see how they do in their next season
