    This show feels almost like a throw back to the 2000s with how chill and laid back it is.

    It feels like a 2010 show edit: more that I think about it’s like a mixer of 2000s and 2010s.

    The art style certainly looks like it's from the 2000s. That wasn't exactly one of the best decades for cartoons, but still looked great.

    This show is a delight. The premise has been done before but in a more dark way both in content and humor. This is more like taking the premise of Billy & Mandy but mixing in the positive tone of Phineas & Ferb and its one new song an episide thing.

    Brian Donegan Personally I saw it as a more light-hearted version of that Beetlejuice cartoon from the late eighties.

    I think you're both right, it's a good cross section of all of that. I was thinking Beetlejuice a little bit more personally, but Billy and Mandy is a more modern comparison. This actually has a more upbeat tone though, which I think actually reflects it well

    Congratulations on being a father. It does explain where you been for the last 7 months. Also great analysis on how The Ghost and Molly McGee deals with Mortality as I could’ve definitely use a show like this earlier in my life as I’m wasn’t a fan of Halloween growing up.

    Glad to have you back Seaniccus, and once again congrats on your new baby! I'm also enjoying this show, especially for the stuff with the ghosts and the growing bond between the title characters. I like to think of it as a mix between the surreal, supernatural vibe of "Billy and Mandy" and the "Beetlejuice" cartoon, with a dash of the upbeat tone of "Phineas and Ferb."

    TGAMM did representation rather well. It's usually not made into some big point, it's just in the story and often serves the plot. I am also a mixed race Asian-American who moved a lot growing up, so two things about Molly really resonated with me: - She's not an all-knowing sage for her Thai background. She's half, afterall, and a few generations removed from first gen. Her nana is often the one reconnecting her with that side. - Molly identifies strongly with Brighton, her "forever home," not something like her ethnic background. I did the same growing up and if I was told I would finally have a "forever home," I would've been just as obsessed as Molly. Imagine growing up and not having a place to truly call home until you're 13.

    I always called it "The Ghost of Molly McPhee" after seeing it however I would say its more like Phineas and Ferb or the Muppets. Also when I talk to my TV remote to bring it up the remote always miss hears me Its never gotten the name of the show right. I never felt "left out" from cartoons never reflecting "My Family" and heck they still don't. in fact diversity pushes are only going to make them LESS like mine. TV loves big families, poor families, wealthy families, dysfunctional families. when you're none of those things and also not any of the popular races or sexualities' or gender identities you're just not going to have a show about your family. Relatability is not vital to the enjoyment of a series.

    Here's my biggest question, are the McGees the only people who can see Scratch and if so...is this a result of the Curse? I suspect other characters like Libby, Andrea, Molly's teachers or someone else in the neighborhood might see him at some point

  • @seaniccus

    @seaniccus

    2 жыл бұрын

    I wondered this too -- I think scratch can decide who gets to see him? And if it was just a scare they'll forget they saw him, or make up a reason for it. The rules aren't though, because Andrea saw him when he didn't meant or her to see him?

    Speaking of shows that deal with death, think you'll ever talk about Helluva Boss and/or Hazbin Hotel? I know you mostly do kids caroons, but if you want a show that does a similar thing regarding mortality, as well as human nature (even if a lot of the characters are hell-born and relationships, and what it means to be good.

  • @seaniccus

    @seaniccus

    2 жыл бұрын

    Oh man, I actually have a story about that. Suzi works in the book industry, and a few years ago we were in New Orleans for an industry event -- where they showed the first episode of Hilda as a special preview for the project they were working on. They even gave away a Hilda doll, and I happened to have the winning ticket! It was great! .... But then when the show premiered I actually never got around to watching it haha I kept wanting to read some of the books first. I should probably get back around to that, I remember liking it, thinking it was interesting because it was slower paced than a lot of shows of its type, probably something they were able to do because it was going directly to Netflix

  • @PaszerDye

    @PaszerDye

    @@seaniccus i'm certain you'll love it. It's a delightfully poignant & pure show, even more so than recent Disney cartoons. The pacing & writing are excellent. The values the show teaches don't need to be overtly told or spelt out to the viewers, because they learn it so effectively with Hilda & her friends. That high degree of subtlety & respect for children's intelligence make it a great show to watch even as an adult. I can't get enough people to watch it.

    I don't think the show is bad, but I think I disagree with you about the songs. I may need to watch more episodes, but I find the songs are pretty bland and forgettable. I mean, they're fun, but unlike Phineas & Ferb, I find I forget the songs shortly after the episode is over. I don't hum them later like P&F's songs, especially Gitchi Gitchi Goo.
