The German Luger Snail Drum Magazine and Loader Tool. Overview & How it Works!

Ғылым және технология

Today we're looking at the two different variants of German Luger Snail Drum magazines from WWI. These are finicky and difficult to use, and are now well over 100 years old, so parts and repairs can be problematic. While they're wonderful pieces to collect, attempting to actually use one can present a hazard to both your fingers, and the inside spring of the magazine!

Thanks for sharing. When I was a boy (I'm 51 now) in New South Wales, an elderly Gentleman mentioned to my Father about these magazines which he had seen in France, typically attached to MP-18's.

I'm so glad they made modern double stack - double feed magazines nowadays. I even have some double feed - quad stack magazines that hold 60 rounds in my Surefire 60 round mags. But, I keep them locked n ready and plan to ditch them when empty and chuck easier to carry 30 rounders in the rig after. They carry more, easier to carry on your body and are by default more reliable. Some people still love their drum mags tho lol. Only redeeming factor they have in a modern role is they have the ability to allow you a larger round count than let's say a 10 round mag when shooting in a prone position. The larger 30 round sticks won't let you get as low as you wanna be during a firefight. Which is lower than a snakes belly btw lol. The ARs already force your head up high with their height over bore. Add a 30 rounder and you're now way up yonder. Very cool mags tho. I'd play with them at the range for certain! Good video bud

Spring pressure seems to be the same as far as the types I've personally looked at, and the Type I is definitely a better design. As far as pricing, I'm unfortunately not up on the latest pricing, but any snail drum is a rare magazine!
