My doctor looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for this test and gave me the entire song and dance about how I'd have to pay for it out of pocket, keep in mind I'm a year shy of 40 and my father had his first cardiac event at 33 and kept having them all the way to 52 when he eventually died of heart failure. I was really fortunate to get my result at 8.4, but I feel like this should have been the first test they did on me given my family history.

Canadian…found my cholesterol was quite high in late 20’s, doctor said don’t worry your 10 year risk is low anyway. Of course it was, I wasn’t even 30! Only found this because the nurses at work were doing screening, not my new GP. At 40 cholesterol still high, no surprise. Many tests later I still didn’t know if I had an elevated risk beyond doing the Framingham 10 year risk myself. I changed doctors and stayed away for 8 more years. Asked for my Lpa to be tested and finally have some insight. To his credit he did volunteer to include APO B in the tests but still relies on the Framingham risk assessment. Honestly my collection of KZread doctors has been more helpful than in person doctors. Some of these tests should just be mailed to you at 20 or30 when you renew your health card. From there a simple algorithm could determine who needs more screening or help.

I couldn’t even get my doctor to measure my uric acid levels because I have recently developed high blood pressure. I got an email back saying that they would have to look at how it affects their procedures and policies or something like that. Basically it sounded to me like they were worried about adopting new things because it might put them at risk of liability since they would be admitting that they didn’t do these things in the past when they should have.

Yes but even in Canada if it's found out that you have Lp(a) they say there's nothing that can be done. So it begs the question of why test for it if there's no desire to even continue monitoring it in any meaningful way.

The medical system in the US is BS! Why if we are supposed to be the super power are we so far behind in this fact?! I'm going to demand the APOB and LBA on my next labs cause I want to live a long productive life! Thank you Peter!
