Great idea, but how the heck do you get tested. I mentioned it to my doctor and she looked at me like I had a squirrel in my hair.

Exactly! I've been seeing a cardiologist for at least a decade now. I have mild CVD and he has never once ordered labs to check either my Lp(a) or even ApoB.

I'm responding a year after you posted, during which time awareness seems to have increased. Quest labs in the U.S. now offers the test that you can buy online and schedule it directly at a nearby lab. Costs about $50. If your physician seems mystified by it, go and have the test yourself if you haven't already. Don't wait for her to catch up.

@@christopherstewart9874if you already have CVD these tests aren’t that useful. They would predict the chance that you would get CVD.

As far as I´m concerned , you can start by the classic lifestyle changes, if you haven´t done them yet (diet, exercise and so on... maybe reduciong sat fats...). However, those won´t ´´get rid´´ of Apo B, but may dmiminish them , if they are high. However, as Peter pointed out, if you want to get your Apo B really low, like ´´child´s level´´ low, you´ll probably have to try the farmacology rout... of course, discussing it with your ´´up to date´´ physician.

Is it safe to safe High LpA (mine is 127 mg/dL) is only dangerous if you have other factors such as high LDL/cholesterol? Like if you don't smoke, drink, you workout everyday, can you be okay?

apparently Lp(a) is 5 times more atherogenic than other LDL particles, so I wouldn't count on that.

So Nadir Ali MD is right - Lp(a) is not the actual cause of CVD if only a subset of people with high Lp(a) get CVD

  • @bernardojunqueira2392

Because there´s not only A (one) cause of CVD, but a cluster of factors that , combined, raise ( by a little or by a lot) your risk of CVD, with Lp(a) being one of them... an important one, although not determinant.

These guys seem to be out dated on their (a) vs (b) importance, and the role of (a) in heart events. Skip these guys and keep reading other blogs and you will see . Also look up morbidity studies related to low LDL. I am a firm believer that ldl is required but LP (a) is a killer. I have good LDL
