The game with a TYPO in its name
Ойындар
This is one of the biggest mistakes made by a video game developer: a video game with a typo in its name! Let's talk about how this huge disaster happened, and how gamers reacted when they found out the video game they just bought had a spelling mistake on the box!
Capcom actually made TWO huge mistakes when releasing their games - the game with the typo on the box, and another video game with a WATERMARK on the front cover. In this video, I'll tell you about both disasters!

I remember working for a food processing plant years ago. On my team we had one guy who had "Mental difficulties". He was a good kid, but he wasn't quick at reading and could barely write. He'd been moved out of all the other departments one by one, and now he was in my team. I could see that he was getting a bit upset by how all the other managers had pretty much told him that he's not bright enough to do any roles in their department's, and how he was useless to them, so I worked out systems that worked for him and he could eventually do most of the jobs that the rest of my team did. One day, we're working at the end of a conveyer belt, packing bags of vegetables into transport trays. He wasn't very good at this, because there needed to be 16 bags in each tray, and he couldn't count up to 16 at the same time as placing these bags in the trays. For smaller numbers we placed the bags in the trays to form a pattern, so when the pattern was compeat he knew to start another tray. It was hard to make a patern out of 16 bags though. He could usually just about keep up, but if he got distracted it all turned to sh*t. This day he kept stopping and looking at whichever bag he had in his hands. this wasn't a particularly unusual thing. He had this funny little habit of zoning out for 10 to 15 seconds every couple of hours, so I didn't think anything of it, but this day he was doing it several times a minute. after a while I stopped the production line so we could catch up, and to check everything was OK with him. He explained that some things never make sense to him, and he has to think about them to try and work them out. Wanting to help, I asked if I could help, and he said "How many days are there in October?". That threw me as I couldn't remember myself. After a little more chatting he asked if there were 32 days in October. I said "No, The longest months are only 31 days long....... Why?". He replied by holding a bag of veg up to me and showing the "32/10/xx" use by date on the label !!!!!! The printer that put this info on the labels used a metal block with slide in letters and numbers. This was kept hot, and would contact each label to mark the thermal paper labels just before it was rolled onto the bags. The people who set this machine up at the start of shift each day would change these slide in numbers to set the use by dates for the day. Someone had been half asleep when they saw "31", assumed it was "21", and just swapped the last digit. He'd then printed out a few, to check print positioning and quality before give the rest to his boss to check, and they'd bother said it was "A-OK !". his boss then gave some to the shift manager to stick in the daily log book. HE also said "A-OK". .............. And NO ONE ELSE (Including me) noticed except for this kid who couldn't count !!! :D

@@martinquetzal5346 No. He won't still be there. I left the company about 25 years ago, and they liquidated about 2 or 3 years later. The assets got bought up by a global fruit importing company, and eventually everything got broken up and sold off. When I heard about them going bust, it was a bit concerning really, because it was the biggest employer in the area by a considerable amount. It was originally a huge farm that ended up becoming a pretty significant sized food processing company. Back in it's farming days, the company had a fair few houses built around the area that were originally leased out (For a nominal fee) to the staff who worked on the farm, then as the original staff died out, the leases were transferred to the widows or children of the original staff members. I often wonder what happened to them, as most of the ones below retirement age also worked for the company, so they would have unexpectedly lost their job, and probably their home at the same time. I shudder to think of what happened to the widows.
I have a game with a odd Typo in my collection. It´s a Promotional Copy of "Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30" on the Original XBox. If you don´t know, Promo-Copies for XBox games have a yellow, diagonal banner on the front that says "Promotional Copy - Not for Resale" on it. But somehow, someone got a Typo on that banner when they made the Cover for this particular game. Instead of "Resale" it says "Rescale" on this one. I always assumed that this yellow banner with the Text was a pre-made asset that they can just slap on the cover in Photoshop, but for that Typo to happen it must have been made individually.

see wikipedia for "Swiss cheese model", it's a risk management theory more or less saying it doesn't matter how many layers of safety there is when each of them have holes eventually some of the holes will line up. one way of reducing the holes is having a checklist. instead of assuming someone in the chain looks through everything critically their pre-release QA should have a checkbox instructing the person going through the checklist to verify correct spelling each relevant item. then again, nobody's life is at stake so as long as they handle it as well as Capcom did I'd guess having this happen probably just increased sales of the items if anything.
Capcom was notorious for typos around this time. Asura's Wrath had Chanllenges and I think they even misspelled their name Capcpom in some trailers too.

Lol he mentioned Capcom and I immediately knew he was gonna pull "Revelaitons". I still own the wii version of Okami too

I do too actually. Haha
Thomas Game Docs: Look! there's a typo in this game's title! South Park, The Fractured But Whole: 👀 Fun fact, Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games (Vancouver 2010) should have been called M&S at the Olympic Winter Games, so there's a whole word in the wrong place
The opening makes me wish the short lived 90s beer Artic Ice was still around.

i owned the game digitally so thats probably why lol
Thomas, you aren’t talking about a misspelling you’re talking about re revaluations special edition according to Capcom.
8:20 I think that very few guys on the Japanese branch would've noticed that mistake xd.
Huh yeah great video here Tom! I definitely heard about misspelled covers on video games in the past but I had no idea about the IGN logo on Okami it’s possible I heard it from somewhere as it does seem familiar. But yeah this really does go to show that game developers really are human and aren’t just machines rapidly producing games or something. It takes a lot of time and I can imagine how stressful it can be. So for something so small as that to go unnoticeable isn’t completely outta the question.
3:30 i barly see it Edit:now i see it
What you're here for: 6:41 Jesus what a waste of time.

Agreed
this reminds me of how on the original cd of tally hall's album Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum they misspelled mechanical on the side of the case.
Oh, so THAT'S why they released those alternate covers for Okami! I thought they just released them as loving homage to the game...
I have both of these games. I also have a game called "Eliminator Boat Duel" and it's spelled right on the front label but the top label says "ELIMONATOR" I also have a NES Metroid that says "Mad in Japan" another Capcom Wii mistake is on Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles, the spine side of the case is missing the "Wii" logo. I've seen it with and wihout
Pronunciation for Part 2's typo: Re-ve-LAI-tons. "Lai" sounds like the Chinese word ”来“, which means "Come".

Working at a game store, I love showing people the Okami thing any time it comes in. It's so hard to believe that it happened to such a massive studio.
I remember getting Okami in 3rd grade for the Wii and never noticed the IGN watermark on the cover, that's interesting. Need to check the cover after I move to see if they didn't fix the error. This was one of my favorite games when I was younger.
Just imagine some french translation of Capcom games are full of typo. Ace attorney is probably the best example.
Why is Revlaitions making me laugh so hard this morning
As a kid I got The Games Factory and it came with a collection of games made in it called SPACE GAMES, except it was misspelled SAPCE GAMES on the side. I think about that a lot.
It’s so weird to hear about game companies handling mistakes well that’s so rare now
I would find it interesting to cover something I found when I was on Tik Tok and there was a game called habibi run that was probably on an app store that some people in the comments section and I thought contained voice clips from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that we thought were Link's. I feel like it'd be interesting for someone to make a video on it.
The moment you went to 2006, I _knew_ it was Okami. That said, I'd never heard Capcom distributed alternate covers following the release. That's pretty neat, to be honest.
I have a copy of "Splinetr Cell" for the Xbox lying around somewhere, always enjoyed that one
I love how Capcom's statements on this took the situation light hearted and didn't just give a corporate response to the situation and called it a day. Shows a bit about the humans behind the dev studio
there was that naruto game with a case typo too! and i'm sure i once saw a trauma centre game with a case typo too, i just for the life of me can't remember it.

Naruto Powerful Shippuden. I had that game.
Great content keep it up
their statements and responses to these issues are so incredibly wholesome. i feel like alot of companies would just silently fix it and never say anything at all

Dude you deserve a TV show
I thinks it’s IGN’s fault. It’s extremely difficult to spot, so it also doesn’t work as a watermark because they’re supposed to be easy to spot, so people will quickly be able to tell where it’s from and deter people that try to plagiarize things.

there's definitely some time travelling paradox shenanigans behind that watermark, sneaking that logo in the perfect spot, true clairvoyance, if you will, the best example of minor tomfoolery
@nekozombie

No, it's not IGN's fault. Their implementation of said watermark contributed to this happening but it's not their fault, whoever recycled the image without a proper check is at fault. The hell?

@@Periwinkleaccountyes, why would that change the stance? :o What I mean is, how is the incident happening IGN's fault? Their odd use of the watermark or whatever it is just a contributing factor to the mishap, but it's not *their fault,* right?

@@nekozombie it is, because it’s barely visible. Any good watermark should be easily visible.
The first batch of the Switch port of the Megaman Zero/ZX legacy Collection came with a typo on the side of the case "Megan Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection"
my fave bit is your new "reaction" stock video. lol

Many printing errors happen in the games industry. I remember a game had a printing mistake regarding the ESRB rating, the game was printed with an E rating when in reality I think the game was oficially rated M. I think it was an anime game with lots of girls, you can probably figure out why it was rated M

That was Gal-Gun Double Peace. Unlike Resident Evil Relations (and Naruto Powerful Shippuden since it also suffered from a boxart typo), Gal-Gun Double Peace's E rating mistake on the back of it's box art was never fixed due to the physical release being on online only exclusive.
I read the title, hovered over and saw 'the apprentice' and just knew what it was referring to- 'artic ' that episode PAINED me

That's how it should've been spelled. English sucks.
Apparently later copies of Okami had the watermark removed, and the one with the watermark is apparently worth a pretty penny these days.
I lost my mind when someone pointed out the typo on resident evil. Still laugh every time I see it lmao
wasn't expecting to see ready at dawn here. I'm a huge fan of their lone echo series.
I was hoping this was gonna be about the Resident Evil Revelations box, and I was happy to recognize it even from the blurred image at the beginning! I loved that game back in the day, and I'm so stoked to own a lil piece of gaming history with the misprint.
I have the ‘Revelaitons’ case-could’ve ordered the replacement sleeve, but it was too hilarious to get rid of.
