HOWEVER, my sympathies are some what tempered when this dude runs surprise "your family is being kept hostage" drills on his kids, monthly bug out drills, and the dude sweeps his house when he comes back from a trip to make sure no one's squatting (a situation where in he's holding and ready to fire a fucking revolver INSIDE) and holds people hostage at the gates of "the Alamo", and then the guy, this Bad-Ass TM, cant handle a sudden gun shot near his face WITH WARNING. 3 years late, but the ear pain was definitely Tom's own fault. Since his ear protection is connected when he pressed on his left side alone, which you can see him do right before the shot is fired, it created a small gap on the right side leaving that ear unprotected. That's why he's holding his right ear even though the shot was fired by his left side.

I could get behind some of this prepped stuff but these people go so far beyond the deep end on this shit. Like yes I agree, Knowing how to use a gun is a skill that should be learned, stockpiling 46,000 rounds of ammunition, or forcing your daughter to go shooting having a ranch compound and running like Hostage drills with the cops is a little much. Take a wilderness survival course instead maybe see if you can do some combat training with the police maybe local national guard or something, I'm sure there's legitimate avenues to do so when you've got the money for apocalypse fortresses and 46000 rounds of ammunition, have a few weapons, stockpile emergency food and medical supplies, have some good camping gear and maintain a rugged vehicle you can leave the road with, that should be fine. You're already fucked if it's a dirty bomb anyway so no need to really worry about that

I was on this show as a kid actually because my dad was featured in season 1 episode 10: disaster doesn't wait The some odd years earlier my dad had built an underground bunker in the garage with the help of my older brothers. The bunker was for security and storage and that was basically about it, but when the showrunners found us, the fabricated the entire story of it being specifically made for an EMP apocalypse, and had us do a "drill" for the show. Over the course of the show UCS looking at a map playing our route to our boat on the coastline, then proceeding to spend the night in the bunker, leaving the next night, traveling stealthily on foot through the wilderness using my father's military training and experience, making it to the Coast to our boat and driving off before our segment ends The bunker was just there for security, the map we were looking at wasn't even our state because we didn't want our location possibly revealed, the nearest coastline is 2 hours away by drive (hiking it would take days or even weeks) and we didn't own a boat, it was rented by the doomsday crew. My dad's "military training" stealth as he was a boat mechanic in the Coast guard. The recording happened during third grade and release when I was in 4th, so much of it is fabricated that when we occasionally watch the show we treat it as a comedy

After watching that I kinda feel like if it ever comes to the two families holing up there together, it'll turn out Steve's been scheming the entire time to take the Alamo from Tom, especially after seeing how he reacts to a single gunshot. So Steve will kill Tom and declare himself in charge and then, in the ultimate twist, Victoria will shoot her dad and free herself and her mother from the lunacy. They'll just walk off into the sunset together.

I agree. I'm surprised Child Protective Services hadn't been out there, as what Tom does is really child emotional abuse. Steve fircing his daughter to shoot guns that she hates, is also child abuse. A good parent NEVER forces a child to give up on their strong beliefs. At her age, she is coming into her own morals and values as a human being, getting her own "voice" and her father doesn't allow that? Wow. Both of the wives should divorce those fools, as they are doing nothing in protecting their children from a father's obsession....they are responsible for the abuse by being complacent. Sad.

I hate loud noises, it triggers my fight or flight response and it causes me to have panic attacks. I couldn't imagine being forced to shoot them as a kid! People like you need to be sterilized if you really think it's ok to force a child to shoot a gun. They are kids, not soldiers and you shouldn't be training them as such. Let them be kids. Exactly! In my current situation, prepping is unpractical. But in the future and for others it makes perfect sense and is completely reasonable to have a bag with basic supplies and a general idea of what to do, but these kinds of drills and excessive plans and wastes of money are pointless with the amount of different situations that could happen and the low likelihood of needing to put it into place. You need a simple and very flexible plan and a good amount of general survival knowledge, not an excessive and detailed plan that requires everything to go right.
