The Fummins Project - Episode 5 - Installing The Diesel Conversion Specialists Swap Parts

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In a world where one man likes to work in his garage, we present to you.... Fun King Garage!
This series walks though doing an engine swap in a 2008 Ford F-450 Super Duty. We are removing the 6.4L Powerstroke and replacing it with a 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel out of a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500.
In this episode we replace the oil pan and rear main seal. We also get to bolt on the adapter plate, flex plate, engine mounts and filter delete from Diesel Conversion Specialists. Next up is putting the Cummins into the Ford!
The Porter Cable Twist Lock set used in this video was model number PCQ8SET from Tractor Supply Company. I have since moved to Benchmark Abrasives exclusively as they give me a MUCH better usable life. (You will see these in future episodes.)
Surface Conditioners: amzn.to/3x0CRnT
Flap Discs: amzn.to/3x0uvg0
Come along for the ride and check out our progress.

Dad always told me, "never tighten the 1st bolt until all of them are started." That was mainly for valvebodies, but a good practice in general. The prolific use of torque wrenches probably isn't a bad idea. I've only used them for heads, valvetrain, & rod/crank caps. The rest get a few uggah-duggahs and call it good or an eyeball w/ the manual ratchet. 🤷🏼‍♂️

It was an employee at a Tractor Supply a long time ago that taught me the bolt thing. I bought one of those yard wagons and opted to not pay for assembly. (He was the guy who did the assemblies.) He said, "My one piece of advice, assembly everything before you tighten anything." LOL! It stuck with me. As for the torque wrench.. is your usage on camera or off? LOL! Kidding of course. I actually don't use a torque wrench on most things. This setup came with explicit instructions though and Cummins are known to shake everything loose. (Suspension is another place I always try to use one. OH, and ANYTHING I do on my mom's car! LOL!)

Horrible Freights 3” cutoff discs are outright dangerous. I purchased a few just to see if they were comparable to better quality ones and the things will explode at top speed and send shrapnel flying right into your face. Fortunately I had safety glasses on which prevented the shrapnel from getting into my eyes but I had to use tweezers to pull chunks out of my chin, forehead and nose. I won’t touch them again even if they were given them away.
