I ended up going to jail when I was in high school and it ruined my scholarship. The gyroball was in my arsenal and I did EXTREMELY well using it. Even broke down a video in slow motion to show movement when I was 16 with a couple high school coaches

@@joegarrison5911 he was decent at 15-12 and 200+ strike outs. He then followed it with an 18-3 season which was really good. He got injured and was horrible after that.

However in the playoffs he picked up the win in game 7 of the ALCS and game 3 of the world series. I Think the disappointment of how it didn't work out in the long-term undermines his importance for the 2007 world series.

For some clarity, Gyro balls should be fast with a very late break, somewhere above the plate. Compare that to a screw ball and slider, and they are still breaking far too early compared to a gyroball. The theory that I've heard is it's supposed to copy a bullet increasing speed becuase of a lack of Magnus force. Somebody out there will correct, me but that's what I heard.

I think you didn’t do your research on this one. Which makes me question your other videos but I’d like to think you’ve done a fantastic job . Daisuke (Dice-K, not whatever you said) pitched up to 97mph, which is hard throwing. He had ridiculous stamina handling 150+ pitch games. He was also known for his nasty slider. He was absolutely NOT prized for his gyroball. The guy had injuries that derailed his career. Hope this helps.

Actually I find that several of this guys vid titles r over the board to get views. Like here, he uses the word fraudulent. That's a pretty serious accusation, and would probably result in libel cases in some countries. Many of his other videos also have inaccuracies, which seem intended to make the clips seem more sensational.

The one thing that you had to gain from Dice k was that guy could stretch out of baseball game like nobody else. Has any socks fan who live close enough to get tickets knows If you were getting tickets to go to the game you better make sure you sneak in a lot of hard liquor. This will not be a short game.

I remember the Red Sox signing him. The Sox and Yankees were always, and still are, bidding on the same players. Yankees G.M Brian Cashman wanted David Ortiz when the Minnesota Twins let him go. Steinbrenner was adamant about landing Jason Giambi. Back to Dice-K, when he pitched his first game with the Red Sox the game was aired all over Japan, even on those huge titantrons in the middle of the cities. It was the first time since Hideo Nomo (who also played for the Red Sox. Even recorded a no hitter)pitched his first game with the Dodgers.

you're also wrong. japanese names that end in suke are pronounced as skay, hence, Sasuke - Sauce-kay, Daisuke - Dice-Kay, etc.

First off, it's pronounced Dice-kay lol. Secondly, check out last year's best collegiate pitcher Kevin Kopps. He throws a mean Gyro that was flat out unhittable last year. He's been tearing it up in the minors for the padres organization.

People don’t realize this dude threw 96-97 MPG in his early-mid 20s but didn’t come til he already had 8 pro seasons in Japan and was 26-27 coming to Boston. He had 200+ starts in Japan and 72 complete games where they will pitch a guy 125 pitches easy while throwing way more between starts. Even his MLB rookie year in Boston he became the first starter with 10+ Ks in 2 of his first 3 starts career starts. He pitched 2 complete games by may 14th of his MLB rookie year (one with like 120 pitches) and his arm was shortly going to be jello. He went on DL after a year, then hit DL again. Think about 200+ starts with 72 CG in Japan. That doesn’t count the HS/winter ball/MVP games or WC he was in. 160 wins and 72 CG with 1370ish Ks is a career for most guys. That was just what he did before coming to Boston. He still had a solid year before getting hurt, won a WS with Boston as a rookie and helped gain so many more Sox fans. Also Dice Ks contract was really for like 110 million. 51 went to the lions for the rights to bid on a deal and 58 more went to dice K, I think almost 60 when it was said and done. Boras almost lost the deal because he didn’t want to count the 50 the lions got towards his worth but they figured it out. It was a win for the Sox no matter what ppl say. A second WS, a fuckton of international media attention and new fans. Any Lions fans from Japan league are now Sox fans.

I love how he says for the past 20 years Japan has given us studs and names only 5 people..

I love you, but this has got to be the worst take you’ve ever done. I know he was shitty in during his seasons with the mets, but that was after he injured his arm. You used OPS+ as a metric in Jeter’s video. You know stats. He had a 160 ERA+ the season before his injury. People believed he had the “gyroball” but that wasn’t the reason the red sox signed him. He was actually good.

From what I remember, the gyroball was used in a baseball manga/anime and thought to be impossible because it broke upward instead of down. Matsuzaka allegedly had the pitch figured out and that's why everyone was trying to sign him.

This confuses me to an extent because I pitched for 8 years and I would consider a curve ball to have the side spin of the mysterious gyro ball rather than top spin. If it had top spin it would be more of a sinker. I had probably 6 different pitches and they had all different arm angles to the body. Some would be perceived as even side arm. With that said, the name doesn't change the fact that the gyroball exists, it just sounds like a curve crossed with a sinker.
