Even if the entire script was fictional, you can’t help but appreciate the sense of realism that this movie had, making it seem like it was based off a real documentary by showing side by side footage of the “real” Abigail and the “fictional” one

I for one, hold the opinion that this is a true story the man in the beginning shot himself and his whole family because of his abduction, the woman abbigail was paralyzed after being possessed by the demonic aliens, theres so much evidence of aliens and I think its time for the world to recognize this. Otherwise the information alone could be used to cause mass hysteria. Likely at the hands of our own government. Keep an open mind👁

Except that far too many people believe in things blindly, and actually believed that there was footage of people floating above their bed, and of alien voices coming out of the people's mouths, etc. None of which ever really happened. The entire premise, though creepy it may be,makes no logical sense. Why would some race of people, obviously, far more advanced than us, use their technology, whatever that tech is,to make some random guy hover above his bed? And why would they creepily break someone's jaw so that it hangs open all, unsettling like, and then speak through that person to,basically, just talk a bunch of smack like some Call of Duty player? It makes no sense. If aliens abducted someone to experiment on or study, etc., why would they make contact with the child's parents just to,basically, say, neener neener, we got your kid and you can't do smack about it. Lawl. ?

When I was in college they did an advance screening of this movie. I remember going there with my friends thinking this was gonna be a cool movie for us all to see and enjoy. I’ll never forget that throughout the entire movie from beginning to end there was no whispering no talking no cheering no gasps it was just pure silence inside the theater. Even after the movie was done instead of people talking and laughing or joking or saying something about the movie everyone was just in silence about what they just watched. Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction when you have a movie that gives that sort of reaction it’s a success.

That’s how it was when I saw Hereditary in theaters. The entire room was dead silent once the lights turned back on. You could just feel the weight of how terrified and disturbed everyone was. I would give my soul to experience that feeling again, it’s so rare for a horror movie to have that effect

@@robertgreen4602 Oh, this story is real. 100% real. It's just that it doesn't involve aliens... just your everyday human monsters. If you take five minutes to look into how absurdly *easy* it is to violate all the things we believe makes us safe, such as security systems or locks on the doors... The only thing that truly keeps us safe is anonymity, as in nobody wants to hurt us enough to find a way to do so, and the illusion of consequence, as in what would happen to you if you do this to someone. Take a moment to look outside the window, and try to imagine how you could hurt the people you see there, and you'll discover how terrifyingly easy it would be. It's heart-breaking that our day to day life is safe because of illusions.

I remember this. The owls as metaphor for the "grey men" aliens was actually really nice. I remember reading up on why Alaska has so many missing people. Turns out getting drunk and wandering off into snow that lasts for 10 months is both remarkably common and extremely difficult for everyone else. Also, indigenous women tend to be disproportionate victims of abductions that have nothing to do with aliens.

Also, Nome's main street used to abruptly end at the port/docks so basically a straight drop off into icy, cold, rough Arctic waters. And there are a lot of bars/saloons on the main street. It is thought and, in many cases, proven people would get drunk, wander out of a bar at night and walk right into the ocean.

Sad that with how many stories of aliens abducting people and doing inhuman experiments and torture we have, the worst monsters are still other people. Every time something like this comes up, I remember a line I heard in the TV-show CSI: "I believe that if there is out there an alien species so intelligent and advanced as to be able to travel the stars, they'll be intelligent enough to stay well away from humanity"

Picked this up on DVD when it came out when I was in middle school while on vacation. This film scared the absolute crap out of me when I watched it. When you’re young and impressionable and don’t get that the whole thing is fake, the “real” footage is just intensely terrifying. Hearing her blood curdling screams back on the recorder and she doesn’t remember any of it sent chills down my spine, and still does. And the ending when the alien says “I AM GOD” sent me over the edge. Did not sleep well that night at all. This movie is much more corny and relatively lackluster as an adult, but it still has its moments.

When the alien divorces you and then later in life you're both single and end up realizing you still have feelings for each other but there's just too much baggage there. You think you should, spending a few nights together, then a few more and then you think you might as well just move back in with each other. Fifth or Sixth, I think.

I first watched this with some co-workers. One of the youngest(18 years old) was pretty adamant that aliens weren't real. That lasted until he watched this movie. He was the most shaken of us from watching the movie. He was even losing sleep. I remember him calling out from work because he didn't get enough rest the night before. He said that it felt impossible for him to voluntarily go to sleep. He would end up passing out. We tried to explain that it turned out that the movie wasn't real, but he said it didn't matter. For him, the idea of the movie made to much sense to him, not have some truth to it. He eventually got over it and went back to his normal self. But I've never seen a movie have such an impact on a person. I understand people having nightmares after watching something. But this movie put a whole other level of fear into someone who originally didn't believe in such a thing.

Abbey’s fate is one of the most tragic outcomes I’ve seen: she’s constantly plagued by paranoia and trauma after losing her husband (which eventually worsens after her daughter disappears), is hospitalized and can no longer take care of herself by the end of the movie, and her son gradually loses his trust in her to the point where he wants nothing to do with her even when she’s gravely ill. All around devastating.

I remember this film I was skeptical about the “real” footage, but even if it was all dramatic for affect to me the imagery and just well done scenes of mocking “real” footage was effective as it puts the viewer in fear of the unknown and unexplainable events. I think it’s one of then best films of its format . The owls did creep me out as a sense of something watching you at night which explained the fear of the residents and the story did make you feel sympathetic for her and her daughter and gee as you felt sorry for their loss

I feel like I am a very rare "perfect specimen" target audience for this film. Owls have always freaked me out. "Grays" have always scared me. Sumerian culture and the mysteries behind it are my biggest fascination. I watched this movie once, and I never want to watch it again because that fear is inexplicably traumatic to me. I watched this whole breakdown you did, nodding the whole time, I don't think you missed a beat. Thank you for covering this one. See I never actually had my own version of a close encounter story…I think. But what really bothers me is something I remember from my childhood, when I was 8. I had a memory, clear as mud, about going to an amusement park. My entire family was there, and I got to ride a horse while an attendee held the horse’s reins before running crazy. Nothing spectacular about the memory other than the fact that all these years later I remember it extremely well. What bothers the shit out of me is everybody, all of my family including my grandmother who had flown in to be there, denies everything. When I got older I went looking for any sense of fair grounds or drive by carnival back in the year I was 8 years old and nada, zilch, bubcas. It was not a dream, I can NEVER remember my dreams after waking up. This memory was so real I swear it happened, and it’s insane knowing not a soul can attest to it. It’s easily my most wtf moment in my entire life, I have zero explanation.

This movie affected me like no other movie has before. I have always been a horror junkie for as long as I can remember. I don’t get scared easily, rarely even jump during jump scares, and could watch even the most frightening movie with ease. However, I remember being around 15 and watching this movie and it scared me SO bad to the point I was shaking uncontrollably and couldn’t sleep for days - I’d just lie in bed, heart pounding and terrified. I never knew why that happened but I have a theory: around that same time, I was suffering from very bad sleep paralysis almost nightly. They say sleep paralysis can happen during alien abductions. I think maybe I had an unknown alien phobia from being abducted hidden deep inside my psyche and since that was the first alien abduction horror movie I’ve seen, it brought it out in full force. Or maybe I just had an unknown alien phobia. I remember my whole life always feeling uneasy seeing anything alien related even if it wasn’t meant to be scary - like a cartoon alien in the Simpsons.

Ahhhh I’ve been DYING for u to do this one, my fiancé had NIGHTMARES after watching this. He thinks aliens tried to abduct him his twin brother and his little sister when they were children and it scared the hell out of him.

Back in the day I downloaded this on a whim and had no idea what I was getting into besides that it was a pseudo found footage type movie about aliens. Watched it alone in the dark the first time and it really freaked me out!

As a kid only the 1st Candyman scared me, then I saw this and added it to the category, along with Exorcist 3..

The "aliens" speaking in Sumerian and proclaiming to be "god" made it so scary that one watch was plenty. Terrifying movie.

I remember when my sister told me this movie is actually 100% fake and the “found footage” was fake. I burst out laughing and was like “then why the hell did it start with Mila Jonivich swearing on her integrity as an actor that this is a completely true story” Overall still a scary as hell movie though

So it happened?, But did it happen? Was she crazy? Editing the tapes would be hard then? Uk military released they have had aliens since 1955, So kinda mute points. Also why would aliens travel xxx lightyears just to butt rape another species.... Hmmmm

No matter what anyone says, this movie is one of the best horror movies to date. The only movie that actually made me scared for weeks when walking home late at night.

@@maddieb5787 there so similar dark skies could be it's sequel I think this 1 is a bit more scary and unnerving bcuz it mostly takes place at night and the whole movie is dark, and the other takes place alot during the day etc
