THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN (2008) Ending Explained

Ойын-сауық

#meattrain #endingexplained
From Clive Barker (Hellraiser, Candyman) comes The Midnight Meat Train, where we follow a young photographer (Bradley Cooper) in the big city who encounters a mysterious killer butcher in the subway. He's led down a road to darkness that threatens to swallow him whole. We're breaking down the story, including everything we learn about The Butcher, as well explaining the ending and comparing it to the original short story.

8:55 For some context, the guardian angels are a group that conducts "safety patrols" on the streets of new york, founded to help combat crime. A lot of people think they're vigilantes, but they're really supposed to be a crime deterrent. They wear leather jackets and berets to be easily identifiable. The idea is that if a mugger or thief is on the street and sees one, they'll be less likely to do anything simply because they know that if they try something on someone they'll get involved, which is rare since in new york people generally don't.

Fun fact: The mount used to hang deer up is called a gambrel, and it basically hooks between the achilles tendon and the bone on both legs from the inside of the leg. The Achilles tendon is incredibly strong when it comes to tension, so you can even hang 400lb deer up and the only worry is if you can lift it. Nature provides, in every deer on earth, a thin rope that can withstand hundreds of pounds of force.

This movie was surprisingly pretty good, considering how short the short story was. But it just fell short of being the cult classic it could have been. It was always one of my favorite stories from "The Books of Blood", and definitely one of the better movies based on Barker's work that he didn't himself have a hand in. I recommend everyone read the story, it's very short.

@@ollehkacb Oh. That's only a short story in the beginning of the first volume of the Books of Blood. It's about these fake ghost hunters who end up at a real haunted house which is a crossroads for ghosts who can't rest. The guy goes upstairs to pretend to look for ghosts, but he spends the time fantasizing about his partner, and I believe he begins to touch himself, which sets the ghosts off. They strip him down and they each carve their own stories into his flesh in a way that won't kill him, but ensures they will be legible forever even after they become scars. "We are all a book of blood. Wherever we're opened, we're red." I think the final story in the final book may wrap this up, but I don't recall anything in the ending that was dramatic in any way, just more like an epilogue. I'll have to check out the movie.

I read the original story. It juggled the perspectives of Mahogany and Leon, and the two of them only met once. From what the book described, Leon sort of stumbled into the role of the Butcher after killing Mahogany in self defense- there HAS to be a Butcher at all times, and since Leon proved stronger than the aged Mahogany, he inherited the position by default. I really liked how they expanded their relationship from pure happenstance to Leon becoming obsessed with tracking Mahogany down and Mahogony's masters actively choosing him to be the replacement. I don't know why they ended up fighting each other even after Mahogany saw Leon's mark; was the position solidified in a trial by combat? Other than that confusing plot hole, the rest of the movie is good, and I also loved its legacy as it was shown on the marquee of a theater in "Silver Lining's Playbook" as Bradley Cooper's character Mack chased Jennifer Lawrence's Tiffany after a bad "first date."

It is trial by combat...Notice how Mahogany charges up when he realizes that Leon is branded too. He knows he is not only fighting for the title, at this point, he is also fighting for his life. That's why Mahogany says "Welcome" right before Leon finishes him off.

I rented the Books of Blood from my local book store back when I was 12 and then proceeded to rent this from the Video-Ezy, when the eyeball scene happened my jaw actually dropped, and now years later seeing all the CG made me chuckle lol

this is one of the few movies that found flix covers that i actually seen before. i remember my dad got this movie on bootleg feels like 10 +yrs ago not knowing any idea what the movie was about. tbh i liked the movie back then when i watched it the couple times i did. i remember being obsessed with the scenes of the chick pov gettin whacked with the hammer and the butcher cutting the shit off of himself. iv always watched found flix videos, it feels weird yet satisfying to not need an explanation for a film but i still appreciate you for covering this movie man🔥🔥🔥

If every city is dependent on the abominations to prosper, I wonder what makes the difference between the levels of success in each city? Like what has made Los Angeles's abominations more potent than say... Columbus, OH? Also, what constitutes a "city.". How big/populous does a society have to be in order to be classified as a city?

Maybe the entity "whispers" into people and give them ideas which in turn make the cities prosper and that they whisper more often the more they are fed. OR they could really be just asshole entities, powerful but indifferent and just tricked people into feeding them by using some arcane stuff to extend the life of the "fathers".

I don't know about America but in the UK where Barker's from it depends on whether we have a cathedral and if we have more houses than flats (apartments)

I can't stand Bradley Cooper now, but this was his break through film. The only one he was in that was truly good. I still own the dvd. Sadly, MMT did suffer from studio meddling, and went on to be this underrated, underappreciated cult classic. Not the first Clive Barker film to have befallen such a cynical fate.
