The FORGOTTEN The Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel (and Prequel)
Фильм және анимация
The Nightmare Before Christmas sequel (and prequel) that nobody talks about anymore - it's easy to see why both Oogie's Revenge and The Pumpkin King have been completely forgotten by fans of the original cult classic Disney film.

I'm happy that Disney has rarely done anything with the movie. I think that's the main reason it's staying so relevant. Disney usually screws up their very good properties by using them too much and by leaving this alone they keep things the same and don't ruin a pretty perfect movie. I think if they made a sequel back in the day about any of the MANY doors in the woods things would be better but if they make a movie today I think it'll just be ruined.

Definitely a fair point. It would have been way too easy for Disney to botch things.

Disney low-key ruined Sally because they let some one create an origin story for her, and it lightly goes against what was shown in the film.

Problem is they are literally going to any old property and doing things they have no business doing (Hocus Pocus 2 for instance). I wouldn't be surprised if they decide that the money is too good to pass. And we all know what quality they're currently churning out.
I totally loved oogies revenge. It wasn't just a hollow remake to me. It's one of my favorite PS2 games.

Definitely not hollow and clearly made by Devs that cared about the source material.
I HIGHLY recommend reading the new book, Long Live the Pumpkin Queen. If they make a sequel to the movie it should absolutely be based around this book.

Now that I can agree on, the book was great!
The movie has basically survived entirely from its aesthetic which was very marketable back when goth and emo was popular in the 2000s so a movie sequel probably wouldn’t be necessary to sell stuff. Some ideas from this game would later be used in other capcom games oddly enough since they had a hand in making it. (jacks whip like grabs are oddly similar to what would be used in Devil May Cry 4) in fact I believe a lot of the devs that looked over this game would also work on other future action games which is funny considering this all came from an ok tie in game about nightmare before Christmas
Got both these games a couple years ago. The GBA one was a pretty good metroidvania style game and the PS2 one was pretty good too. Until I got stuck on the gauntlet level where you gotta beat all the monsters in a short amount of time. Great video 🙂

Thanks! Yeah, that gauntlet is BRUTAL
I truly love the game :) and I love the music , though I did hate the part with the buttons, always went so fast on me 😅 Sally has her own book called the pumpkin queen , if it’s truly part of the story then it shows her and Jack getting married and it gives her a chance to go into other towns , even starts with Jack taking her to valentines town It’s a really good book and a interesting look on Sally story :) the writer said she got the ok from Disney and Tim Burton to write it , but I don’t think I ever heard it confirmed that it’s really a nightmare before Christmas sequel

That same writer is writing a prequel of Oogie boogie’s, and Jack Skellington’s relationship with how it ended at Jack’s crowning as the Pumpkin King. And while she didn’t write it, there is a comic of Zero having his own holiday adventure.

I’m frustrated with how The Pumpkin King takes place one year before the events of the film even though the film very much makes it clear that Jack has been the Pumpkin King for multiple years
It's just that Henry Selick did such an amazing job
They did a sequel with sally in book format called the pumpkin queen, it’s a interesting idea that wasn’t written perfectly but opens the worlds and we actually get to see lost doors, holidays and celebrations lost to time.

Thanks so much! It's definitely due for some kind of remaster or rerelease.
I remember seeing concept art for this game years and years ago when I was a young, hyped fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas. They had Easter in shambles, which leads me to believe that there were originally going to be more holiday worlds, likely on a second disc or something. That said, I don't know why it was cut, and I cannot for the life of me find that old concept art. I'm guessing the other worlds were either cut because of time constraints or because Disney was being a little choosey with what could be done around their properties around this time. Remember how Epic Mickey was held back because Disney didn't want Evil Mickey to be a thing?

Yup! Definitely feels very Nightmare May Cry.
I LOVED the game. Truly a perfect sequel to the movie.
Good thing Disney found Capcom to work on what is apparently 'Christmas May Cry'. They had a good bond next to Square Enix and Nintendo when it comes to Disney in gaming. Rebeltaxi explained about this game's flaws in his review of Oogie's Revenge; I just hope the two give the game a Devil May Cry 'Special Edition' treatment, which fixes many of its flaws. If only Jack had to travel into other holiday worlds, good thing Thanksgiving Town and St. Patrick's Day Town get a skip because sickness in the 1700s and alcohol shots. I declare that Nero has his own Soul Robber in DMC5! The prequel is good also, but the enemies are lackluster. Just bugs, bugs, and butterflies confirmed by Spongebob as scary-same goes with Rezzie and DMC2.
This was pretty interesting to see. I’m not sure if a sequel would be awesome or not, it depends on how they’d execute it. Great video.

2:32 I very vaguely remember that trailer as a kid. I only saw it once but I remember being a little scared by how the characters looked. God that sent me back.
The movie was just so perfect and was meant for children at a time that they are now mostly adults so it would be practically impossible to create a sequel that could rival the original in any way, however an adult adaptation maybe like sin city style would be cool or something but then again it messes with the whole childhood thing and apparantly Disney owns it so good luck lol

Just found your channel, and your review was definitely great. You give the presence and tone of a casual fella who wants to talk what's on his mind (In contrast to the usual over-the-top personalities of most reviewers, no offense to them) , and I like that. And you hit it right on the head with these games, as someone who's played them, they just seemed like decent returns to nostalgic moments of the film and are okay to play. But there is ONE thing I have to talk about. Thank you. I thought I was the only one who thought that moment in Kingdom Hearts 2 was what I thought it was. Hahaha! In short. 10/10. Subscribed. It's clear developers ran out of time with oogi's revenge. In the last 7 chapters the difficulty ramps up, the levels are all way shorter, and terrible back tracking all to pad the time out. If your not a fan of nightmare before christmas the game is a 7 over all. It's a 4 to a 5 in the last quarter of the game. Just sad because the game starts off strong, peaks early and then becomes a chore to finish. Edit: forgot to mention the terrible platforming sections at the end. Terrible collision detection, but also either tons of insta-deaths or fall back to the begging, all while fighting the camera to just see what your doing.

Spot on! The end is definitely rough and lacks the polish of the first few chapters.
I got this game as a used copy and it still makes me mad; when I bought the game, the seller was telling that the game was pristine and in good condition, but when I got the game it was all scratched up that you could only play the first 15 minutes of the game. Tim doesn't want anything to do with the Dismal company, also Dismal didn't even have enough faith in Nightmare to put their worthless name on it when released. Though easy to see why they were caught off guard by how popular NBC would become with a younger audience over time. Burton films had a much sharper edge and generally were geared towards adults - exactly what Touchstone was built for.
