The Forgotten PS4 Console
Ойындар
Before the release of the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim, Sony had been working to revise the original PS4 console and with a release just a year and a half later we had a revision that gave us a look at how Sony was working to build their new 4K console.

@@unbearifiedbear1885 i only just got a ps5 myself after all these years of still playing on my trusty ps4, simply because there are finally some games coming out making it half worth it. Dragonball Sparking Zero, Stellar Blade, and even Treyarch's first Call of Duty in 4 years are all dropping Q4 this year without ps4 ports, so it was time to get a ps5, and luckily a few weeks ago all of the Spiderman 2 ps5 slims went on sale so i copped it.
I have that one. No wonder the teardown process was somewhat different compared to the original PS4 model. Now I know it had the components that would mostly share with the PS4 Slim.
My PS4 was the first and only console I ever bought on release day. Served me faithfully for almost 10 years. Gave it to my friend when I finally got my hands on a PS5. PS4 is easily my favorite console of all time. PS5 is just PS4 2. All of yall complaining about the fan and the noise should have opened it up, cleaned the dust out, and changed the thermal paste. I have a launch PS4 that still puts in the work, but my friend bought one of these revision units for his brother back in the day. It has since gone on to my brother, as his slim unit suffered from hardware failure around last Sept. during one of the system updates. Best I can tell from the error code it's an issue with the BD drive communicating with the rest of the hardware. The PS4 controller is hands down my favorite controller out of anything.
The touch-sensitive buttons were so dumb. I found out how dumb they were when I got my Xbox and it lived next to my PS4. Any time I played Xbox, the heat would dissipate close enough to the PS4 that eventually it would power on and start rapidly ejecting and sucking the disk in and out. First time it happened I damn near had a panic attack. 👻

That's my PS4, never realized that mine was different from the original release and I still love it.
I have one of these PS4s, specifically the MGS V Phantom Pain edition, imported from France (also released in Japan). It's working great for me. I did open it up and replaced the thermal compound with Arctic MX-4, and it runs quiet and cool. Put in a 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD into it, and I'm loving the console to this day. As far as I know, this is basically the same as the PS4 slim in terms of power efficiency and performance, but just housed in an original looking PS4 shell. So I'd say this is still a good one to buy today, unless you're looking at the Pro revision. Mine is a keeper, since it's a limited edition and also, having been imported from Europe, it allows me to watch Region B blu-ray movies.
I have this model and didn't know for the longest time it wasn't the standard model. I always hated that glossy plastic and was glad this is the one I ended up with.
I got this model. It broke after 2 years. Got a second one through Sony support after a repair shop couldn't fix it. The second one refused to read my discs after another 2 years. I originally had to unplug it to make it work. I don't even play them that often nor do I leave them in sleep mode. I got a slim in 2019, so far its good.
I’m barely getting ready to upgrade from this ps4 I got it on launch week. Loved it.
Thats the one i had. Didnt even know a "normal" one was half shiny. Also remember it had awful wi fi problems. Literally kept disconnecting all the time so i just sold it off. Collected dust anyways.

Thanks for the refresher video! I recalled having to open my PS4 to clean up the dust from the fans. I think I purchased my model from GameStop in 2014, they were offering trade-in discounts and traded a PS3 Slim just to save off $100.
I remember my friend getting this PS4 and I really loved the physical buttons it had vs the touch buttons on my launch PS4. I hated how those touch buttons would turn on the PS4 even after unplugging it (the capacitors took a while to run out of power) and then it would corrupt my hard drive.
I have a 1 TB variant of this model and still use it regularly (CUH-1208B), it had came as an unofficial bundle with God of War 3 Remastered and Infamous: Second Son discs for free (a special festive bundle on the occasion of Diwali 2015 in India).
I have this one! I remember being told to specifically choose it over the 1tb models at the time (late 2015) because this one was more energy efficient, and I ended up replacing the hard drive with an ssd later on. I've since moved to a PS5, but I still have this model in storage, waiting to be used again
Finally I know what model I have thanks! It’s been driving me crazy for years.
I traded in my launch PS4 for this version as my launch version would constantly and randomly kick out discs that I thought was due to faulty touch buttons. Being able to get rid of the glossy top panel was icing on the cake. It's been running perfectly since!
This is the one I had. I walked into a best buy during black friday 2015 at 9am, no other customers in the store but me, grabbed this as part of the uncharted collection bundle. Still to this day the most seamless black friday shopping experience I've ever had.
Back in the day, Sony said you could use this as a space heater for the winter John 😂
I loved the DS4 because I never needed to buy a new one. I either bought them for under $20 or they were given to me because they were broken. At one time I had no less than a dozen of them. It was always either broken triggers or the USB port.

Zero scratches on the console and the controller. I didn't experience those extremely loud fans, it was working well for me. I had to sell it a couple years later to build a PC. At first I regretted my decision but later I found out that the free PS Plus glitch I used to do was patched :)

I have this model and still actively use it. I always baby my systems and for the most part, I haven't had any issues with it.
I have the CUH-1216B 1TB model. Got it just before the Slim launched and the stores were clearing out these fat models. £150/180 for the 500GB/1TB. Was using it for VR and 3D Blu Rays until the audio jack on my PSVR stopped working. Now keeping it next to my PC ready for the homebrew scene to blowup.
Dualshock 4 is hands down my favorite controller of all time with the 360 controller being my 2nd favorite. I like to actually grip my controller rather than just cradle, or lightly grasp them, and every other controller since has felt WAY too slippery. I have huge hands, from heel of my palm to the tip of my middle fingers are ~8 and 3/4 inches long, so not small at all.

Love my PS4 Pro. As for ranking the pads - DualShock 3 is my favourite. Pressure-sesitive buttons for full PS2 compatibility, and immense battery life. My 15+ year old DualShock 3 pads still go longer between charges than my far newer DualShock 4 pads. DualShock 4 was great though. My main gripe was the battery life.
I remember this one. My oldest brother had the og glossy one and my middle brother had the 2015 revision. Only thing that was weird switching between the two was the mat finish didn’t have touch buttons

Yup, this is the model I own as I bought the Star Wars Battlefront 2 (I honestly wanted the Uncharted Trilogy bundle but it was out of stock) in very late December of 2015. Honestly, I didn't even know it was a refreshed model. I still occasionally use it today as, outside of faster load screens, there hasn't been enough financial incentive to drop $500+tax for the very few PS5 exclusives that I have an interest in.
I remember seeing these being bundled with Call of Duty Black Ops III, my brother and I got one from GameStop Christmas 2015 of that year.
