Hall effect sensors would eliminate the drift issue. Years ago, UK scientists conducting durability tests on the Switch Joycon controllers classified them as defective. How Nintendo addresses or disregards this problem in the next generation will be pivotal in defining its approach to quality control and quality assurance practices. All at an added cost and inconvenience to the consumer.

I love my Nintendo I have 3 oleds but I wouldn't have needed 3 for more than trading Pokemon if the dock blowing it's self up with over power surging while playing in docked mode or the joy cons tilting like crazy making precise aiming a joke would of been a great selling tactic if you could buy a switch without the tablet because that's the only quality controlled part

They're not getting a check for $12.00, they are only going to get a $12 coupon which they could only use to buy Nintendo games. Companies like this will never give you your money back, any refund will be done through store credits or coupon, they do this so they get that money back. Remember back in the old days when the consumers sued Nintendo for anit-trust with their product, Nintendo didn't sent them a check, just a coupon and those same money they lose they got it all back. Any customers that never use those coupons had their money and time wasted anyways. This is why these lawsuits are nonsense, yes you win in the end but remember your award is not what you expected and you can't re-sue.

@@VOAN 1. It was a joke. 2. None of the plaintiffs are getting anything in this case, as it is being dropped. 3. No one sued Nintendo for antitrust. Atari sued Nintendo because they didn't want to pay a licensing fee, and lost. 4. Any damages paid by a defendant in a court case have to be approved by a judge, so if coupons are sent in lieu of cash, that is a judge's decision. 5. It isn't always about getting something in the end. These lawsuits are about holding companies accountable, even though it's usually only the lawyers who gain anything of significance, it will (or should) make Nintendo and other companies think twice about selling hardware without proper testing. They aren't inherently a waste of time. Though, the lawyers do like to stretch things out as long as possible. If you could bill someone $500 per hour, wouldn't you?

@@ZeusTheIrritableThey are meaningless. Nintendo knows their whales are willing to pay them 50$ for cardboard cutouts and 60$ for minimal enhancements to a 10 year old Wii re-release. I bought the King Kong Pro 2. It had, BY FAR, the most accurate hall effect sticks I've ever had. Each had a circularity error margin of like... 0.5%. Every other part of the controller that wasn't their thumbsticks was bootycheeks, though. Bad buttons that scraped the shell. Stiff bumpers. Poor bluetooth and expensive adapter. Went with a Flydigi Vader 3 Pro instead, as it's a much more solid controller IMO. I'll probably never buy another gulikit controller again, it was so bad.

Yeah as far as I know the issue was fixed years ago. The best DIY fix was to just slide a small card under the sticks. Seems a manufacturer error left a gap big enough below the sticks that they get bent after rigorous use. I’ve never had the issue personally because I don’t game like an angry gorilla and quickly swapped to the pro controller. But my guess is they figured out the same issue and just started padding out the controller below the sticks.

I sent in a set of joycons for replacement/repair once. Wasn't much of a hassle and they came back relatively quick iirc. Eventually though I found it was quicker & easier to just replace the joysticks in my joycons w/hall sensor joysticks. That N64 tech is amazing. This is kind of a whole new species of retro gaming. RDR: I'm still waiting for a 60fps patch / version for PS5 for RDR2. Maybe someday? I know there was a hack but I just want an official RS patch. Switch controllers: I got the binbok controllers the same week I got the OLED (our first Switch) and have had no problems. Never used the stock controllers as they were just too small and too uncomfortable. The binboks have a very comfortable bulging shape. When playing docked I also attach them to a KINVOCA Joycon grip which is a wishbone-shaped thing that also works well. I think that square going multi platform will definitely help with sales, the thing that will suffer is the development of certain games by not being able to focus on a single system. I say this because Kitase (producer of FF7 Rebirth) mentioned in an article that because they worked on a single system it allowed them to refine the game . I hope for the best , just hope FF7 pt 3 won’t be pushed back. It’s a shame, square has some amazing games.
I have bought 8 sets of joycons, all have ended up drifting. 2 pairs in the last year. Ive replaced 4 pairs with "stock" chinese sticks, I finally just started using the gullikit hall effect sticks. So far they havent drifted.
If I was a third party developer I would want my game on every system that could possibly handle it. More exposure, more sales. In the case of final fantasy, square has to ask themselves if they would have came out better by putting it on multiple platforms compared to the money that they got from Sony for exclusivity.
Breath of the Wild taught me that I love the lock and key structure of the first 26 years of the Zelda franchise. Yeah, still got a few Joycons with drift floating around. Also have about a dozen others that don't have drift. Yet. Seems to be less frequent with the ones bought more recently. And the Pro controller still going strong since just after launch.
I switched to the Hori Split Pad Pro since all of my joy cons started drifting and it’s bigger so it feels better in my hands. I switched to a different controller to avoid drift.
When Nintendo announced they would fix the joy-cons I contacted them, got an email with the mail label packed up my joy-cons (drift and no drift) and sent them out. I got all of them back within 5 days and all worked no issue after that. I got more joy-cons (no drift) and just to be sure I sent them in and had them addressed looked over for good measure and again I had them back in under a week. New joycons now have this insert inside them making them less likely to drift. This combined with joy-con firmware updates that take drift into account makes it less of an issue today. Only those with OG joycons will have noticeable problems (no insert). I mailed mine for free repair. No major issues since.
I signed up for that CRT class action lawsuit. Took about a decade, but i got about $40. A friend of a friend built a PS3 supercomputer cluster with like 30 consoles. That class action gave him a mere $20 per console, after many years. He lost a ton of money on that experiment.
So Square Enix with Final Fantasy & Sega with Persona it seems like the whole exclusive thing they had with Sony to get their games first, a whole year etc is finally over and now their games will go everywhere is a good thing since now everyone will be able to play their games on the platform they choose, no longer stuck on one and having to buy another system just to play it or wait for it to come elsewhere. It seems exclusives will very soon just be a Nintendo thing with their first party games, where as on Xbox and PlayStation games will be well everywhere meaning P.C etc.

Persona doesn’t fit as they never had any exclusivity deal. Just old Japanese business habits taking a while to die off
It’s not a waste of time to hold company’s accountable. It’s a service to all gamers everywhere. Which is far greater than individual reward.
I can imagine Jim Ryan telling the board "We really need to bring someone else on...doing the gaming division, working with 3rd party studios and TV/Movie studios, all the peripherals, the PSVR...its all a bit much to expect one person to have the highest level of expertise in all these areas." Sony board: "No, Jim, you can do it; we just don't have the budget for another top tier executive." Jim decides its time to retire. Someone at the board after he leaves: "I have a great idea....why don't we hire TWO people. One can handle hardware development, and someone else can take over responsibilities for TV, movies, etc."
In the first 3-4 years of the switch, I had 3 pairs of joycon and every single one had drift. I’ve had the OLED switch for abt a year now and those joycon haven’t shown any issues yet.
Looks like those checks Sony was cutting for console exclusivity and delayed PC releases aren't as good as people thought. This is a good thing
I've only had my original joy cons experience drift a few years into the launch but we were able to fix them from Nintendo's repair but after that we kept using the Pro Controller *MUCH* more frequently and that thing is a beast, it retains a charge even after weeks of no use
Doesn't Gulikit offer a HALL sensor thumbstick upgrade kit for the Joycons, heard this was easier than sending to Nintendo? (Plus, they make no promises to return the exact same special edition joycons...)
Never experience stick drift on either a launch day Switch or the revision model.

My first pair of joycons which came with the switch had drift. I clean them every few months electrical contact cleaner and they still work fine. I bought another pair 2 years after getting the switch which haven’t had any issue. Maybe they did internally tweak and fix it enough for it to be a less of an issue
Another reason I think these games arent selling much when exclusive (except for nintendo) is the entry costs, consoles were meant to be the cheaper gaming alternative to computers, now they cost the same in the long run with the system and subscription prices to keep online play, nintedo is cheaper than the other two and are selling better than the other two, coincidence? Also game offerings for sure helped the switch a ton, the quality was (for the most part) flawless but the other two have held back and sold a few of the IPs people loved, and for some games they were VERY below par so why bother buying an expensive system, which means less customers which means lower sales across the board for games like FF.
@G360LIVE

Yeah, cost is big deal. Nintendo released the Switch for $300 then two years later released the Switch Lite for $200. I'm sure that's part of the reason Switch sales have been going so well. Once upon a time, consoles would go down in price as the years went on, but that doesn't happen anymore.

You can buy PS5, Series S and Switch oled instead of a gaming pc that will run current high end games decently. And that gaming pc will start to struggle after 3-4 years. For high end PCs you need to put somewhere around 3k. I am hearing 5 to 8k to highest performing PCs. A game console is relevant like 6 to 8 years. Paid only is sucks(60 dollars per year is kinda expensive) but console gaming is still way more cheaper. And most of the subscription services are available in PC as well. It is not a console thing. I am quite sure even Sony will expand their subscription service to PC once they build up their player base.

@@hododod246 Consoles play at 1440p (or lower) for 60fps or 4k (mostly fake 4k upscaled from 1440p or lower) for 30fps, its not hard to hit those numbers and quality on a 1k (USD) pc, and a 1k pc will be viable for a lot longer than a few years given they too can upscale with more flexibility than console, plus upgrades in the long run are cheaper for PC than buying a new console every generation. Ive built plenty of computers and guided people to the right parts for 1k (usd) because that price is the general max for many. Consoles after 5 years of subscriptions cost a little more than the upfront cost to said 1k pcs (unless you're using the series s but then again a cheaper PC performs the same so it'll match a cheaper pcs price too after years of subscriptions). Consoles have a great initial price but to keep one benefit of a pc you gotta pay a lot. Plus PCs offer more benefits so why spend the same money for a lesser product.

Hulst was a surprise but makes way too much sense - incredible mind and has already brought so much innovation to our titles! We are in for an exciting era in gaming here! 🙌🙌
I think most people who had Joy-Con Drift have already done something about it, including swapping the actual sticks and taking them apart.
Not sure if hall effect sticks is that much more expensive to produce, another option would be to use something like normal sticks like the Rog Ally do.
From what I gathered, HD titles for Square are just their console games, and SD are "Smart Device" games. So what they're actually saying here is that they want to bring their previously mobile only games to pc as well in the future. Not vice versa.
I've had 4 switches since 2019, started with the switch lite, then the redbox switch, then the white switch oled, now I have the mario red oled and have never experienced joycon drift
Typical Nintendo. They know they have A LOT of money and can potentially drag this court case FOREVER until the plaintiffs run out of money and the whole case is thrown out of the window.
I think that's the first time I've seen anyone mention Rocket the robot. It wasn't a great game but a really underrated gem of the N64
I've had numerous joycons since 2019, never had drift on any of them. The only time I've experienced drift was on my switch lite, but that fixed itself somehow no idea
Hey Spawn Wave! I love the content and news updates! You should do an update on BigMode if you haven’t already for their new game. 😊
Square Enix had high expectations for FF while only releasing on one platform is mind boggling. Glad they're going multiplat
That tool for N64 for is gonna get destroyed by Nintendo. Should never have announced that.
I got my switch day-one and have three pairs in total (og pair, a 4-ish year old pair, and a 2-ish year old pair). All of them have horrible drift, and my newest pair also has bad button lag and keeps turning off recently. I've been telling myself to send them in to get fixed but I keep forgetting--I really should just invest in a pro controller 😭
I have an original switch and joycon controllers and have replaced the analogue sticks 3 times. Recently changed for hall effect analogue sticks and so far so good, no sign of drift.
With development costs rising, which in part is the devs fault since no one's telling them to spend hundreds of millions to make games, being exclusive to PlayStation at this point just means slowly bleeding money until your company dies. They really should take notes from Nintendo, you don't necessarily need to have hyper realistic graphics and physics, the game just needs to be fun and people will buy it, and keep playing it long afterward.
Did the old cardboard under the analog trick, and my joycons haven't never drifted since then.

"Have not never..." so they have drifted since then?
I had to manually fix two of the original joycons for my kid's switch with the $10 repair kit from amazon and youtube instructions. I have not had that problem, though, with the OLED. If I had to replace them, I would go with a controller with Hall effect joycon sticks. Also, my take away from the memos from Square is that they realized that (a) the focus of their game development should be to make "fun" games and (b) that they really do need to be a third party developer and bring games to other platforms. Ok.
I replaced the sticks in my joycons with magnetic sticks made by gulikit, no drift issues since. The controller I use with my switch is the 8bitdo pro 2 which has magnetic sticks, and no issues there either.
I've been playing the Nintendo Switch since 2019, and I only experienced joycon Drift only 1 time, and it was on the Nintendo Switch Lite that I bought from my local Walmart, this happened back in December 2022. I decided to switch to buying all systems from my local gamestop, and I've haven't had any problems since then.
I have 6 joycons that were all purchased about a year ago, and have been used in rotation for (a lot of) singleplayer, as well as weekly local multiplayer sessions. None of them have any stick drift (yet), but if they ever do, I'll replace them myself with hall effect sticks. It's NOT an excuse for Nintendo, but I bought into the system already knowing about the stick drift issues, I'm pretty much at peace with that.
Great news about Square Enix now going 100% multi platform

Funny how people don't know that the reason they choose not to port their games to Xbox is because the last mainline FF on xbox didn't sell well. The ps4 version outsold it 3 to 1. After that. Both Sony and Square made a deal for exclusivity. Also, Nintendo has more square enix exclusive games than Sony...

@@Final_DawnIn addition to this, the climate is even worse now on Xbox than it was when FF15 released, as Xbox gamers have been conditioned not to buy games and wait for them to hit Game Pass.

@Slaskisofa_TLG so with your exclusivity figures they would have still lost 25% profit...
Pro controller suffers from Drift as well. They wanted me to pay $60 plus shipping, just to assess the problem. The moment I mentioned the joy con drift class action suits, they agreed to give a new controller... Refurbished, I presume... Seems like it's starting to drift again 2 years later.
I have never had drift, BUT every Joy Con i owned still had sticky keys that not even their replacement program could fix
A random thought that I have not heard anyone suggest in regard to extra buttons on the new controllers. In addition to another face button akin to the 'Home' button, there are reportedly more trigger buttons "Under" the existing ones. Rsther than ZL2 and ZR2 ... could they be the return of the Gamecube style Analog with second 'clicks' at full depression? A button "under" the triggers? I hope so. The Gamecube triggers were the Best, IMHO.
Glover is the n64 game that actually have a pc version from the start, especially when it has the n64 graphics and one music from n64; the rest of the music were pre-n64.
This June we'll be holding a Nintendo Direct on the Nintendo Switch 1 software lineup for the second half of 2024, but please note that there won't be any mention of the Nintendo Switch 1 successor during
I'm pretty sure SD title to Square means Smart Device. I.E., Games primarily aimed at phones, which is a big deal in Asia and why it is going to be one of their 2 main pillars. That's why it goes out of the way to say they may port some from phone to PC.
Only lawyers make money in class action lawsuits.
Nintendo also does stick repairs for free, they even pay for shipping. Nintendo also been silently fixing the issue with stealth revisions. I want joy-con with the same 4-button d-pad and circle pads for the future, my 3DS circle pad never drifted.
I don’t quite get the whole joy con drift thing. because I have had a switch for 5 years now and have only ever had two pairs of joy cons and neither of them have ever drifted.
I assume people are just tired of fighting a losing battle with the joy con drift. At some point after getting my joy cons, "repaired," and them still having drift, I just gave up on the idea of them being fixed. I have accepted that my joy cons will always have drift. Now, I try to use the pro controller instead.
The good thing about the lawsuit for Joy-Con drift is that it seemingly pushed Nintendo to extent their warranty on controller repairs. As someone's who's been through at least 3 sets of Joy-Con I personally found it easier to just fix them myself watching Jon's video which also gave me the opportunity to install D-pads but I'm still very hopeful that Switch 2 will have much improved controllers AND a D-pad at launch even if the controllers still split.
I never experienced drift on any of the many joycons on mine, or my friends' and family's switches. I only understood what drift meant on my brother's dual sense.
I looked into the filings of one of the joycon drift lawsuits. Looks like the court required the case to be decided in arbitration, rather than in court. Last December, the parties reported that they were happy with how arbitration was progressing. In all likelihood, Nintendo paid some amount of settlement to the named plaintiffs, which wouldn’t need to be disclosed. There was never a motion for class certification so it doesn’t really count as a class action. Since no class was certified, no settlement needs to be paid to anyone not participating in the lawsuit. All we see is the parties agreeing to dismiss the case, which never happens unless they settle or something went seriously wrong with the plaintiffs’ case.
The CO CEO situation with Sony reminds me of Michael and Jim CO Managing their office.
Hopefully Square will drop the Epic exclusivity too. It was bad enough when FF7 Remake had a 6 month exclusivity period, but the Kingdom Hearts games are _still_ on Epic for some reason. I'm sure Epic gave them a big fat check up front, but Square would make way more in the long run if they simply put their games on Steam to begin with.
I bet they probably had to re-code RDR1 for pc. Basically, the game BARELY ran on xbox 360 and porting that existing code to pc would be a buggy nightmare. Similar reason to Valve releasing Left 4 Dead 2 so shortly after part 1. The code for L4D was not able to handle mod support on pc. So they re-made the entire L4D inside L4D2, which has mod support.
Drift is still definitely a problem. I had to replace a joycon in the last year.
It’d be cool if the official Switch 2 Joy-Cons used Hall Effect Joysticks. They probably wont, but it’d be cool if they did.
If the gaming industry has taught me anything over the last decade ; it's don't hold my breath and wait for the final product to come out before getting excited. I'm hoping the switch 2 has backwards compatibility and that Square expands more of their games to other platforms; but those are just hopes...
I still have my original Joy cons. I’ve never experienced stick drift, though I use my pro controller all the time!

I’ve never experienced drift and I’ve played Hades and Hollow Knight in handheld… but the Pro controlllers, man I’ve broken three of those, wether is the battery just dying out of nowhere or getting drift with minimal playtime
Everyone I know (including myself) with a switch has had at least one joycon get really bad drift. I think less people talk about it since it's fairly easy to get Nintendo to fix them, or because it isn't a new thing.
Interesting 🤔 was just messing with the N64 on the tube TV. Idc about superman 64 though 😅
I’m surprised my switch hasn’t experienced drift. I played with this pair of Joycons consistently for 3 years. I’ve bought some second hand that drift, and have fixed my friends joycons, but my acnh ones never broke
Yeah
Never had any drift issues or heard of anyone I talk to in person (tho very familiar with drift complains online) have issues. The Lite I grabbed for myself in 2021/2 developed nothing so far, my sister still uses it without issue. My OLED has no drift but did have a left Joycon failure that resulted in the system refusing to consistently recognize when it was attached, constantly disconnecting from handheld mode, leading to several Splatoon losses. No issues since I replaced it. Don't see many people talking about this specific issue but research leads to believe it might be worth looking into as I was not the only one experiencing it. Guessing things will be better designed for the next system joystick wise but wish Nintendo was willing to use hall effect sticks, however I'm willing to install those myself if needed.
I genuinely don't mind a 10-15 dollar upgrade for a game that gives you the new version release alongside a new copy that has the full remaster/remake with all DLC included for full price. But don't force people to buy the new version to play the remaster.
So is that like the Steam Beta updates
Idk who was yapping to me on here saying that sqaure had to be exclusive 😂 you sony fan boys, never cease to amaze me
A free update to Zelda would be nice if you had a nintendo online expansion pass account it’ll help get the numbers up I’m sure
All the lawyers do get paid a lot of money for the class action lawsuits. They do most of the work which makes a lot of sense but at the same time it's more or less about the principal. If these companies openly screw over the consumer, whether the consumer gets five bucks or 50 bucks, it's about sending a message and making the company pay for their mistake.
