The Food of Toronto - Million Dollar Critic with Giles Coren

Restaurant critic and man of the world Giles Coren will admit he knows very little about Toronto, and its rapidly growing food scene. So, he's made it the first stop on the Million Dollar Critic discovery tour of North America. Here to taste for himself, will he be surprised at the skill and attitudes of Toronto chefs? Will an encounter with controversial mayor, Rob Ford put Giles off his food (and the city) for good?

I think this series is terrific and they should have followed through with more seasons. It's a shame that Giles left and went back to writing articles alone instead. I would watch the hell out of this if they came back to it!

If you go to the restaurant because of the show and you get bad service and or mediocre food, you won't go back. The press only helps so much.

The third and fourth places looked like they had genuine passion, either of them was more worthy. Meanwhile that first place is apparently still open even though it's super dated and unreasonably expensive, and II restaurant is somehow still open despite being a microwaved Buffet

Toronto in a nutshell. Let me explain something about the restaurants in Toronto. They're either very greasy spoon. Or very high end. The high end restaurants are so hard to get into. That you're lucky if you even get a seat. Then they're so expensive no one can afford them. stayed in a really nice hotel in Toronto. I thought I would go eat in the hotel restaurant. It seems pretty good. Then I was bugged by one of the maitre D's. I'm sorry sir you don't have reservations. I said I'm staying in the hotel. Of course I have reservations. It's no sorry sir you need reservations. Don't even stay in a hotel in Toronto. It's not even worth the money. They're bad and rude to the customers. Even if you had money you couldn't get into half these restaurants. This is why this guy who's reviewing these restaurants. Is only reviewing the really bad ones. the hotel industry in Toronto and Vancouver have to be one of the worst in the world. They're never nice they're always rude. And the customer's always to blame. one of the worst hotels near Toronto is the Sheraton Hotel Pearson Airport. They are so rude. And so arrogant. And very expensive I will never stay there in my life again. It is a bed bug infested Inferno. Filthy dirty. And no one can help you because the only language they speak is East Indian. I spent $480 for a room at the Sheraton Airport. And I didn't have hot water. They kept on saying the rooms were full we can't switch you sorry. The hotel was empty. This was in 2018. Toronto is a disaster of a city. Filthy and dirty filled with junkies and meth heads. And not even worth travelling to to begin with. Avoid at all costs. most of all restaurant have bugs in it. I mean the Cockroaches. Then the hotels all have bed bugs. It's disgusting. And if you say something about it they're arrogant about it. good luck finding a clean bathroom. They're usually filthy dirty. Restaurants and hotels.

What in gods name would possess them to pick this haphazard bunch of mediocre restaurants when there are so so many more amazing dining venues in Toronto? Bizarre and disappointing.
