The Food of Toronto - Million Dollar Critic with Giles Coren
Restaurant critic and man of the world Giles Coren will admit he knows very little about Toronto, and its rapidly growing food scene. So, he's made it the first stop on the Million Dollar Critic discovery tour of North America. Here to taste for himself, will he be surprised at the skill and attitudes of Toronto chefs? Will an encounter with controversial mayor, Rob Ford put Giles off his food (and the city) for good?

I think this series is terrific and they should have followed through with more seasons. It's a shame that Giles left and went back to writing articles alone instead. I would watch the hell out of this if they came back to it!
This episode made my month- absolutely reminded me why I love cooking, eating, and dining out
All of them are closed except Opus and kings place. So much for the help of a million dollar review.

If you go to the restaurant because of the show and you get bad service and or mediocre food, you won't go back. The press only helps so much.

The most expensive and the cheapest, crappiest place. Interesting. A place that microwaves your food isn't worth surviving

I don't think that I will ever give up on meat for good.
494 dollars == cost of my whole month's food and alcohol. And they didn't find a cook from the ground Indian restaurant in Toronto?
I love this show!!
Parkdale and Sherbourne station.........Giles, I think your researcher is trying to kill you, 🤣🤣🤣!!!!
well..... i really hope he could come back for a 2nd season .... :(
Is it just me or the Opus'server sounds like Wolfgang Puck

Moment i saw the microwave i thiought how can you recommend this ?
Crickets are kosher, like grasshoppers, katydids. Other kinds of insects not.
Hit like if you miss dining in at restaurants!
I like this guy, saw him on the F Word a few years ago.
also sad, the atlantic has been closed for almost 6 years
Wow that was quite an interesting episode lol!
Fun fact: crickets are a mexican traditional dish
Why didnt Mr Butt put the curries in different bowls?
Vegans are actually the ones that are self righteous....Vegetarians are fine with vegans or meat eaters.
The secret is…”no one gets out alive”
The dude that won this Nathan said he shut his restaurant down because he was trolling everyone and he hated restaurants. 😂 I’m sure the others deserved it much more.

The third and fourth places looked like they had genuine passion, either of them was more worthy. Meanwhile that first place is apparently still open even though it's super dated and unreasonably expensive, and II restaurant is somehow still open despite being a microwaved Buffet

Quite the rumour mill you've been listening to/created. Couldn't be further from the truth- he is still a very sought after chef at a lovely restaurant and enjoys creating amazing dining experiences as he has throughout his life and career.
RIP Rob Ford
‘Menus are bourgeois from the late 1800s’ …..so are restaurants dude. Both the same era, place, equally ‘bourgeois’. I’m glad I now know he was playing a prank or social experiment with The Atlantic.
Love Giles and everything about him thanks for this it’s great 👍🏼
Good choice
He should've went to an Ethiopian/Somalian restaurant

Come on now! The great critic was challenged by Mexican food no less. Comical actually. Him eating injera would be way too obscene to even imagine.

Why? Just because he's British? SMH. He is nothing like Gordon Ramsey. No swearing, no shouting, no aggression and Giles is quietly spoken. They don't even look alike.

The "million dollar review" gets 31,000 views... No wonder, given the arrogant attitude and, frankly, ignorance of the host (never seen a kitchen from the inside) - a poor man's Piers Morgan.
Rob Ford was the best mayor Toronto ever had dam I miss the guy

The last time a waiter told me every meal on the menu was amazing - I asked him if he him had tasted them. He said no. ....I told at the end "dont tell people they are nice if you personally havent eaten them"

"don't want to be trendy'?? no, you want to be trendy... you just want to be the trendy from 15 years ago when you set the trend. to bad the Atlantic didn't make it - but maybe a concept ahead of it's time...
There's a nicer Indian restaurant in my town of 50,000 people. I think that Mr Butt could have done better with the presentation. If you want to sell Mexican cuisine, try California. None of these places really look too nice 🙂.
I'd hardly describe Rob Ford (RIP) as being part of a 'political elite'. I take it Giles writes this?

His father and brother were/are also politicians and all well-connected too. And millionaires. Sounds elite to me.
The Atlantic is permanently closed. Pay what you can, not a great business model.
Toronto in a nutshell. Let me explain something about the restaurants in Toronto. They're either very greasy spoon. Or very high end. The high end restaurants are so hard to get into. That you're lucky if you even get a seat. Then they're so expensive no one can afford them. stayed in a really nice hotel in Toronto. I thought I would go eat in the hotel restaurant. It seems pretty good. Then I was bugged by one of the maitre D's. I'm sorry sir you don't have reservations. I said I'm staying in the hotel. Of course I have reservations. It's no sorry sir you need reservations. Don't even stay in a hotel in Toronto. It's not even worth the money. They're bad and rude to the customers. Even if you had money you couldn't get into half these restaurants. This is why this guy who's reviewing these restaurants. Is only reviewing the really bad ones. the hotel industry in Toronto and Vancouver have to be one of the worst in the world. They're never nice they're always rude. And the customer's always to blame. one of the worst hotels near Toronto is the Sheraton Hotel Pearson Airport. They are so rude. And so arrogant. And very expensive I will never stay there in my life again. It is a bed bug infested Inferno. Filthy dirty. And no one can help you because the only language they speak is East Indian. I spent $480 for a room at the Sheraton Airport. And I didn't have hot water. They kept on saying the rooms were full we can't switch you sorry. The hotel was empty. This was in 2018. Toronto is a disaster of a city. Filthy and dirty filled with junkies and meth heads. And not even worth travelling to to begin with. Avoid at all costs. most of all restaurant have bugs in it. I mean the Cockroaches. Then the hotels all have bed bugs. It's disgusting. And if you say something about it they're arrogant about it. good luck finding a clean bathroom. They're usually filthy dirty. Restaurants and hotels.

Millions of annual visitors would disagree with one person's experience
What in gods name would possess them to pick this haphazard bunch of mediocre restaurants when there are so so many more amazing dining venues in Toronto? Bizarre and disappointing.
