(pre-text: i've played vicariously thru Markiplier and been really into the lore theorizing with MatPat since this all started plus i never got into the books [just realizing the whole fnaf multiverse is a thing]). i liked the goofy kid fun scene with robots because we've gotten so far away from the issue that those are legit kids. but i could have sworn they wanted Afton, becuase the kid drew a bunny. so the logic and tone-shift threw me way off when they wanted to have abby. ... i still think there are some Afton in the Pizzaria scenes still missing showing how he's able to overpower/threaten the ghost kids and using their love/enjoyement of having a friend to join them. /// Vanessa being afton kid was interesting. and maybe there are more Afton and Emily Family issues in the future. but i thoroughly enjoyed the acting from the non-cameo performers and the tension director was bringing to the story (took a while for me to appreciate Vanessa) . honestly. Scott tells stories poorly. that's why he shifted to books with a co-author. Game dev and character design, very good. narrative, not so good.

I think my main problem with this movie is the same I have with the new Haunted Mansion film. You have an iconic, atmospheric location, and we don't get to just be immersed in it. We are inside, outside, at home, in a diner, at someone else's home, back to the main location, and now we are out again.. It's daytime, nighttime, daytime, nighttime... etc.

I really liked the practicality of this movie. I thought the cinematography was interesting, the script was fun without being irreverent or feeling cynical. it was a really nice change of pace from most action-heavy movies we get these days, kind of felt like a return to older conventions of filmmaking. regardless of what you thought of this film in particular, I think more movies like this should exist and get at least some hype and theatrical release. I know instead of that, we'll probably just get sequels that fail to recapture those qualities, but I'm still glad this movie exist, and I hope it can be successful.

I think this movie was made for ppl who were already fans of the games and books. So much of the lore is presented in a way to be more of a wink and a nod to fans rather than how traditional horror movies do it. I can completely understand someone who knows nothing about the franchise coming away from this movie just like "Well that was a let down." while those of us who have kept up with the story as it unfolded walked away thinking about how amazing it was to see the beginnings of this horror franchise depicted so faithfully. And yes, I said beginnings. There is still so much lore to cover in the next installments that we could be looking at at least 4 more movies. And that doesn't even cover the new games and books that have and are currently coming out. Honestly, as a fan of the stories and lore of FNAF I'm looking forward to what they give us next.

I think the problem with the movie is that there is too many comedic moments and that one of the scenes is like a scene from a family film. The tone shift is the worst thing in the movie. I could also mention the animatronics having goofy faces which also makes it less mature. You're still wrong. Multiple people complain "Theres not much gore" or " I thought this was gonna be a horror movie, they aren't hurting them." A one of the things you have to think about is that these are kids and that this scene showed the most fun they've had for years. Also gore was never in the games so idk why people are complaining about it like bruh a person was literally bitten in half

As someone who kept up with FNAF from the first 4 games and more or less dropped off from there this SO refreshing to hear. Just from seeing the trailers I wasn't expecting this movie to be remarkable but I wanted good fan service and even from that standpoint it was so unremarkable. Like we get 3 bb jumpscares, cameos from 2 FNAF youtubers, animatronics hinting at other lore/games but we don't even spend a full night feeling like Animatronics are after us. I would have rather this movie be full of fanservice but...like I'm stating the obvious when I say this movie would be nothing without the FNAF IP. The way people are using this of all things of an example critics are just wrong about is just insane to me. Yeah this movie is fun to watch with fellow fans but the blind praise is just nuts. Yes FNAF lore is deeper and all but this movie is focusing purely on the missing kids, what it was putting down was not hard to pick up and an easy to contain part of FNAF, trapped in an ridiculously boring movie with disappointing fanservice, that is at best hilariously bad. I would be so much more forgiving of the stance "this was truly for the fans" if it was trying to bite more than it could chew in terms of lore.

I played the games. I thought it was extremely good. Especially knowing Scott Cawthon himself helped work on it. If you play the games he made, it does match his style. One criticism I understand is overall, how does Vanessa know that her dad killed the 5 kids and stuffed them into the animatronics but didn't try to help the police when she became a police officer? But Scott Cawthon every time with a new FNAF project always leaves more questions than answers but this is a movie. That should have been one of the questions to answer in the movie itself. Matthew Lillard did say he has a 3 film contract for FNAF movies so there is a plan for 3 movies. I'm not going to be surprised they make so much more. So it could be answered more in the sequels but it should have answered it in this movie.

I'm more inclined to say it's mid than sucks outright. I think the real interest for the director is in doing 'grief study' horror like 'The Babadook' or the kind of fare 'Mike Flanagan' is interested in it. As a movie, I think FNAF probably could have used a little more 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2' energy over being subtle and trying to build suspense. In most movies, that kind of build would be welcome but FNAF is jumpier and joltier. If someone is looking for a more energized experience,, I'd recommend 'Intruder' starring Sam Raimi. It has really great suspense, great gore, and absolutely beautiful aesthetic direction. It's also a bit humorous too.

  • @The_The_The_The_The_The

I disagree, while I of course think the movie has flaws, it also needs a certain amount of understanding. While you don’t need to know the full fnaf lore, it’s important to understand that fnaf is a series that gives you clues to what’s really going on. The things that weren’t explained are thing that we as viewers need to find. It’s always been like that in the games, and I already have seen great theories, some most likely being true. And while it’s advertised as a horror film and this and that, it’s really more so a thriller, but that shouldn’t take away from the movie. The movie in the end, is it’s own cannon from what it seems like, just like how the books are separate from the games but still can give context or clues. This movie does what it wants to with what we know from the games, and turns it into its own story, while yet keeping it faithful. This is why I feel like this film is still accessible for people who haven’t played the games. As long as you understand that there’s more beneath the surface than what was literally explained in the film, than you may have a chance of looking at it different. Although if you think it’s boring, that’s fine, everyone has their taste. But for the movie really being it’s own entity, I feel like the film wasn’t boring, and pretty well thought out using what was given to us through the games and books. I will agree though that the kills were a little lackluster and all of that, but I really wasn’t focusing on that too much myself.

I feel the same way. I'm not a hardcore fan, I remember avoiding the lore in the beginning because it was essentially just Matpat making up the story based on a few papers from the games. I was more into it for the aesthetic, the creepiness, the designs. I only started getting into lore when it was all set in stone by watching 2 hour youtube videos about everything. In the movie i was very disappointed that they went with a slasher and not a atmospheric horror or something. I think much more could have been done with the animatronics just standing in the darkness menacingly, their movements and kills and everything are really goofy and I hate it. I was most disappointed by how they handled William Afton, I always got the impression he was this intelligent, well put together, stoic american family man you would not expect anything bad from but could also be menacing in the right moments. But they made him into a crazy lunatic and it's really goofy.

Listen, it was a bad movie but bad movies can still be enjoyable movies. And I personally thought that the fnaf movie was quite enjoyable even if as a general movie it wasn’t that good. But yeah it is very disappointing that after eight years this is what we get. But I do feel like we have to give Scott some slack because this is his first time ever writing a script and the movies flaws were not entirely his fault. He was stuck being influenced by Blumhouse producers who knew little about Fnaf and its audience. I just don’t think he deserves all the hate that he is getting from fans. Like, if you don’t like the movie, you don’t have to literally send DEATH THREATS to the creator, which is a bit ridiculous. And same goes to people who like the movie disrespecting people who don’t like it. Luckily, I do have hope that Scott will learn from his mistakes and make the second movie better. So please, fnaf fans, don’t give up on the movie trilogy just yet! There’s always a chance for things to get better! You make some mistakes a long the way and you learn from them.

Its weird because I think it reflects the problem with fnaf as a whole, which I didnt expect. Its not focused no one kind of continuity or set of lore, its spread out and contradicted amongst books and such, there's no real *one* vision for this series. Scott doesnt really have that much involvement with the series anymore, and while im sure he always contributes some ideas, seems very hands off when it comes to the lore, because everything is just so vastly disconnected that its not coherent. But here you have the movie trying to string all that together *but also doing its own thing again* so its all just more of a mess than even fnaf was before all the books and stuff. Ironically not using the fnaf worldbuilding even though it was messy, just lead to more mess, in my opinion. And that comes to a head with this movie's plot.

Glad this one was not made for critics yet everyone likes it..though it could be better ,yes. But for moview that review/critic movies.. thats for sure not gonna like this because they cannot see or feel what its showing to the fans. Resident evil has lots of adaptation yet, not one of them satisfied the majority of the fans.

As I see it, this was a fun movie, it wasn't good but I did enjoy it. Now I am a hardcore fan but I think, they should have just waited a little longer, but I enjoyed it. Also make it a little more scary.

This movie felt like it took place in the "Stranger Things" universe, not a "Purple Guy" universe, more like a family movie for 11 yr old fans but not for the 2014 fans. Smh

I don't think you actually have been a fan since 2014 dude. Scott made this movie JUST for fans and didn't expect everyone to like it he just put stuff that only fans would understand and even added youtubers PLUS added The Living Tombstone. It wasn't meant for that kind of stuff. They made the mysteries hide in the background to make you search just like the community always does. The horror part of it isnt the main point here.

@@icethepenguin9013 im not a fan bc I don't like the movie? Ok u sound like the 11 year olds I was talking about. what mysteries? The whole plot is in the movie trailer. FNAF came out when I was in 6th grade and I only like FNAF 1, FNAF 2, and FNAF 3, im 22 now. So when I say this was made for 11 year old fans not 2014 fans I know what im talking about. This was pushed as a horror film and it was not scary at all and adding cameos don't make a good movie, having music in the credits don't make a good movie, you fake fans keep acknowledging everything but the weak ass storyline in this movie. Of course I loved the scenery, the Easter eggs, the jokes but I also know what good or bad movie is. U can still enjoy a bad movie like space jam 2 was horrible writing but it's a film to watch with family, still a bad movie. If the FNAF movie was R rated it wouldn't have brought in 80 million everyone knows this that's why they pandered towards younger audiences, stop stroking your favorite companies cocks and actually tell the truth or we are going to continue getting mediocre storylines with great scenery and actors. This movie is a 4/10 bc this was a PG13 adaptation, no power went out, no watch the cams, no night tracking, no surprises, no jumpscares, most of the actors had terrible dialogue, why was FNAF characters building forts lmao? Get off Scotts dick and admit this was boring asl and your just happy there's even a movie now of FNAF.

I enjoyed it enough but it should've picked being "Saw for kids" or "Stranger Things but from the adults perspective". And a real frickin mystery would've helped.

I think they just played their cards too early. I felt the first half hour was very effective in building up the suspense and mystery with some decent albeit tame scares but then they basically just tell you outright “Well yeah, these animatronics are possessed by ghosts of dead kids who just want love.” and all the suspense and mystery goes out the window.

@@amysteriousviewer3772 I could agree with that. My issue is more that once revealed, there was nothing else to do with their story. I'm fine with not setting up a sequel in the movie but where do you take the characters next?

This film is a movie made essentially by the creator for the fans. Like The Super Mario Movie that came out this year. Or films like Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Pokémon the First Movie, The Hannah Montana Movie & films like that that are made for the fans. As someone that loves the lore, I personally loved this movie! & also you asked why this film was made.. why is any film made? I hate when people ask that question for films they personally don’t like.

I asked that more as a joke and then clarified, why was it made like this. They had roughly 10 years to get it right and it felt like they just said "ehhh good enough" and gave up. Idk that's just my take. I get a lot of fans dig it tho.

Its a terrible film. Horribly done. It didn't feel like a FNAF themed anything but like a ripoff. It was a kick in the teeth for fans. FNAF was never meant for children. The whole series is gruesome about violating things happening to children (bad parenting if you let your kids play these games). This is just bad honestly. Plus they've already started changing the storyline and character.
