The first VHS video recorder, from 1978

The JVC HR-3300 is the worlds first VHS video recorder, the European model (HR-3300E) was released in 1978.
The machine plays perfect after a good clean and new belts.
The TV next to it is an Sanyo CTP3243 from 1980

Had no idea this was the first VHS recorder. My mum and dad could not afford to buy one,so rented one from Granada for a couple of years, before affording an NEC with remote control..such luxury!

Any chance you could do a comparison video between this big old VHS deck and a more modern high quality VHS deck from, say, the 90s? You know, play back the same tape on two decks, capture their performance and then show the difference. I'm curious to see how such an old deck holds up in terms of quality to a more modern VHS deck. But please, do video captures rather than just shooting the camera at the TV screen. It's pretty difficult to get a true impression of the quality from a camera pointed at the screen.

@@minimaxxl8 I made a test with HR-J401M (mono JVC) and HR-S3901U with same tape, the difference is big. Sound, Colors and video stability.

Was the television flickering as it appears on this video, or was that from the camera?

@minimaxxl8 Please could you tell me - do the channel indicator lights on this VCR remain lit when the machine is put into standby? I’m investigating a possible problem with my own.

Hi, With the VCR in standby all lights, including the channel indicator lights are off (except the clock). In het video the channel indicator lights are off because non of the channel buttons is depressed
